Real's "goal" yesterday

How do you think , was it a goal in yesterday's Milan-Real match. I think it was clear goal. I can't explain why referee made such a decision.

Unfortunately (as I support Real) the referee's decison was correct. Raśl was in off-side.

The rule says that it is necessary to have at least two defenders between the forward and the goal line in order to be in a legal possition. Usually, one of these two defenders is the goalkeeper. In yesterday's match there was only one.

When the other Real player (I do not remember who) heads the ball, between Raśl and the goal line there is only one Milan player (the one who was between the posts), as the goalkeeper was behind Raśl.

Anyway, Milan did deserve to win. Congratulations.

LBlanco - hat's off to you for your sporting attitude and magnanimity in defeat.

Feelesh: Thanks. I must say that I saw the match surrounded by FC Barcelona supporters, who where very happy with the result (and nervous during the match). For me it is the same if today Barcelona wins or losses against Leverkusen, I hope to see a good match, and let the best win. And no pork heads, whisky bottles or pool balls against the players, of course!

Milan was by far better yesterday, from the coach to the striker.

By the way: have you noticed how Italian teams begin to play like the Spanish ones did last years, and vice versa? Do you think that Italy will recover #1 in rankings in, let us say, three-five years?

LBlanco. Hi there. Given that Spain has such a lead in the country rankings for each of the last few years, (and again this year), I think it will be a while before they will be dislodged from the top of the table.

However, I read comments yesterday from Arsene Wenger (Arsenal's manager), who was quoted saying that he thought because of the relationships the Italian clubs have with the TV companies, allowing them to negotiate individual TV contracts, that the Italian sides will return to their former glories because they will be able to afford overseas players' salaries.

So maybe what we see now is the beginning of a renaissance for the Italian elite.

I think that would be good for European football.

feelesh: I was not talking about the salaries of players in Italy, which were already high (for instance, an Italian team has to pay less taxes for a salary than an Spanish one), but about the mentality and the game of Italian sides; now (specially Milan and Juventus) they play more offensive football, and they use the good players they have, not like last years. On the other side, Spanish teams begin to think more in not conceding goals than in scoring.

I agree with you that it is necessary that teams from more countries reach frequently the final stages of the competitions.

LBlanco. Sorry if you misunderstood. I was suggesting that due to the wealth of some of the Italian clubs, they would be more able to afford the salaries of the better players.

This in itself would allow them to build stronger sides. There is no doubt that the Italian teams are showing more flair at the moment, although I wouldn't say the Spanish sides are doing too badly.
