PAOK in big trouble - Suspended Player

On Uefa.com

Am I right in saying the result will be changed to 0-3 (as if it wasn't bad enough).

What a nightmare the CL is turning into for them.

Bad when true. A good surprize or Israel - Welcome to League!

Good for Israel - 2nd time in 3 years.
and this isn't a rosenborg case - they did it with two different teams.
Who knows, maybe also haifa will manage to qualify.

Stuart, I guess you just wanted to say:
"It's true - thread closed"

I thought I was asking if it would be changed to 0-3??

Ricardo has verified this.

Stuart, deal with the fact that Alex Rae will not be banned no matter how hard yourself or the Scottish media try, UEFA will stand by the referee's decision.

This however was not within the referees control.

general rule on referee decisions is that if a referee sees something than the Uefa can not do anyhting anymore. Maybe just suspend a player for 0 games if a red card was unfair, but the other way around. the Uefa can only punish a player if the referee did not see the action.

I'm glad that Tel-Aviv won the game fairly, so it would be harder to claim that a minor issue (really, a red card in intertoto game 3 years ago can be ignored) prevented the better team to qualify.

On Uefa site is this article, stating that only tomorrow the final verdict will be made about the PAOK game.
Actually I find it a bit ridiculous that a suspension is still valid after 4 years.

Actually I agree with that...It is a bit ridiculous that a suspension is still valid after 4 years. Bearing in mind it was an Intertoto cup game anyway !!

Wow! I'm amazed at this story: UEFA has some pretty efficient officials and even better databases.

How else could they check out that player had a valid punishment upon him ? It was Intertoto, a different club, different country and four years ago.

By using that player instead, Victor Hugo surely would put Jean Valjean on the bench in his famous novel...

Same thing happened to Paris SG against Steaua several years ago. Clubs have to learn to check if their players are suspended or not

I don't remember, have Rosenborg or some of the teams they have met, been in a similar situation?

This has happened lot of times in Nor PL and cup, but it is embarrassing when teams are so messy to do it in CL(Q)

season 1999/2000, uefa cup, round 1
West Ham (ENG) - Osijek (CRO) 3:0, 3:1

Igor Stimac played for West Ham in the first leg although he had been sent off in CL(q) match 4 years earlier playing for Hajduk Split. The match should have been registered 0:3 for Osijek but UEFA, of course, did absolutely NOTHING.
Unfortunately, rules apply for everybody except english clubs...

Anita,
I think what colo meant is that Israel starts to participate regularly in the CL (as you can tell by looking at only 3 years), for a relatively small country, that didn't participated at the CL before.

I remember Tümer Metin(Beşiktaş) was sent off at an Intertoto game and banned for 4 games when he was playing for Samsun. After transferring to Beşiktaş(Maybe two or three years later) he were out for 4 games without any change.
