| I guess it's a poppy, worn at this time of year in memory of British war dead. |

| Watch any game in England at the moment and most people, reporters, coaches etc will be wearing one. However not everyone will be wearing , it is a tradition in Most of Britain to wear in memory of dead servicemen & women. Armistice day which celebrates the end of WW1, the treaty was signed at 11.11am on 11th day of 11th month. |

| It also raises money for the families and survivors of war. The poppies resemble the flowers of the Belgian fields of Flanders where many soliders lost their lives. Do the French or Belgians etc have something similar? |

| A week late and off topic for this site, but thought this would answer the question as well...
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918) Canadian Army IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. |
