polish update...

Hi all,

Looking at the situation in Poland one can imagine that improvement must come one day. But for the moment we can see Legia on top and Wisla in second place. Thats all exciting that happends in the league.

Amica is quitting and will merge with Lech Poznan, they hopefully will get stroger by that. Kielce and Lubin are fighting for the place in UC. New and exciting teams actually.

Pogon's squad of 10 brazilians and one slovak did not well so they have to rebuild the team again but still on basis of brazilian players. They are dreaming about winning the league...

For me... it does not matter if Legia win, Wisla is to weak for CL by now since they lost Frankowski and Zurawski. They need strikers!

I think that polish teams can do ok this year but... aware of Wisla Plock!!! This team is on their way to win polish cup and get the place in UC again. That would be - as allways - a catastrof

See You!

Thanks for the update Kronsky.

You say Amica is quitting (rather than simply moving!). Does that mean now that they definitely wouldn't take a UEFA Cup place? (Changed from what we both thought last week)

Do you know which teams have applied for the Intertoto? The Polish team would have a fairly good chance of advancing given the draw.

Are you being hard on poor old Wisla Plock. They did - after all - only lose on away goals in Europe this year.

And what of the second level teams. I believe an old giant of Polish football - Widzew Lodz - are on the way back. What is their financial situation - can they be a force again at the top level?

Greetings

Yes, Amica is movin to Poznan and will play under the name of Lech Poznan so both teams are getting married If Amica end third then they will qualify to UC. I cant imagine that they dont see to that. Furthermore, Lech Poznan is just few points behind... But for now Zaglebie Lubin is ahead and Korona Kielce equal with Amica. Both have fair good teams.

I dont know about Intertoto jet. I assume that it will be fourth team of extraklasa.

Yes, they did'nt do so bad last year but Wisla Plock is not a good team. The only reason that they chalange for a place in UC is Jelen. W. Plock with Jelen is not the same team without Jelen. And I think that Jelen will move from W. Plock. In that case, Zaglebie Lubin is much better competitor and would do better in UC than Wisla Plock. And even with Jelen, I think that Z- Lubin is better.

Widzew Lodz is on their way back to extraclasa, tough they lost their last match. Our old chap Boniek is behind the club and they have very good coach. But they need to reinforce a lot to make it back to the top and we don't have so many good players in Poland. Most of them are playing in Legia and Wisla so it wan't be easy for them. But I hope to see them back on the track soon Their financial situation is ok for now but they need bigger sponsors with more money to make a good team of that.

It a shame that Poland will only have 3 teams in europe for the season 2007 2008. Hopefully it will be better year for polish clubs.

As I mentioned before , 3 month pause from beginning of December
to beginning of March in my opinion negatively affects Polish football , season is devided into 2 small periods - Sep-Dec & March-May, - with 16 teams it's better now but still to be improved.

Well...

There is lack of modern facilities in Poland. New arena in Kielce is first new build arena in many, many years. Krakow is on their way, Warsaw will soon start to build new arena (and that will take years) so basically Poland need better ground to play on to increase quality of the game.

We cant really complain about lack of money couse Serbia, Ukraina, Bulgaria, Croatia and so on are doing better. So... I think that it's simply bad because we dont have enough of talents in Poland for now. Maybee there is something wrong with education of jungsters. Maybee we don't have enough of good coaches in Poland, I can't tell...

I think that Poland will stay with 3 teams in EC for a while. Never know when comeback will come.

My hopes are that Legia and Wisla will do well in next edition of EC and that new teams will pop up to chalange. I think that polish population is getting hungry for some success, couse it was long time ago...

Best regards,

Believe me, grounds in Bulgaria and Romania are not much different than grounds in Poland. In Bulgaria only Naftex Burgas has a newly built stadium and the irony is that they will now be relegated Practically all other stadiums need major reconstruction. The pitch is OK only on the stadiums of Litex, CSKA, Naftex and the National Stadium. Ironically again nobody wants to play in the National Stadium if there is not a dire need to do it because they charge much too much for it... So it's a closed circle.

In Romania it's better. Lately a lot a stadiums had been improved or are in the middle of that process. Stadiums that have high standards (including pitch) are: Rapid, FC National, Farul Constanta, FCU Politehnica Timisoara, Otelul Galati and the National Stadium. Stadiums that will have those standards untill September: Steaua, FC Arges, CFR Cluj. Also, Universitatea Craiova, which will most likely be promoted, have a stadium close to that. Sportul Studentesc have execellent pitch and the stadium looks OK. The only problem here is represented by the parking spaces: they have absolutely no room to build them

Hmmm...

When being on the top, there is maybe not so much to improve and therefore not so much exciting changes to wait for. So, in our countries we will see lot of exciting changes in the future to look forward to!

And...the nightmare become true... Wisla Plock won the Cup! I would be surprised if them make it through to UC R1 and get any point for Poland. So far, they never succeded to do that...even with Jelen in the squad.
