Effects of coefficient changes on team ranking
Author: Cro_nogomet

I was interested to see who will benefit and who will be harmed by the changes in calculating club coefficients from next season. The only changes I took into consideration was the switch from 33% to 20% of national coefficient, because it's very unlikely that any other retroactive changes will be made for Team ranking 2009.

I compared the positions of clubs in old Team ranking 2009 and new Team ranking 2009. I discovered that the biggest winners from these changes are - Dinamo Zagreb. They would overtake 19 clubs in the table + all clubs from Spain, Italy and Germany who hadn't collected any points in the last 5 years.

The biggest losers are three German clubs - Mainz, Wolfsburg and Bochum who lost 17 and 16 places respectively.

In the next post I will copy the full table.

Italian, German and French clubs who did not collect a single point in the last 5 years are biggest losers from these changes. They are overcome by 23 and 20 clubs respectively. It's interesting to see that England is not so affected - only 8 clubs will overcome English teams with no individual points, while Cypriot clubs will lose 10 positions!

Italy -23
Germany -20

What's strange with Cypriot clubs??

If I had asked you who will be more affected by these changes - English or Cypriot clubs - how many of you would say Cyprus?

Mate, I have no idea how the new calculations will affect the countries, so I guess you find strange the fact the low ranked Cypriot teams will fall another 10 places?

Exactly.

I think the new calculation is very good.
PS : In this ranking is Amica Wronki - this club not exist ... now it's Lech Poznañ ...

"The biggest losers are three German clubs - Mainz, Wolfsburg and Bochum who lost 17 and 16 places respectively."
It's very unlikely that Mainz and Bochum will participate in Europe again. And Wolfsburg just startet to collect their own points. Well, could be all over next week though.

The rankings themselves mean nothing.
You should look at the seeding barriers in each round instead.

Not true. For example, if you are in Top 16 of team ranking then you're 100% sure that you'll be in the first or second pot of CL, no matter what. You don't have to worry about seeding thresholds.

Of course, but there is also a different number of seeded teams in each round.
