From 2021, large leagues may get less CL spots

http://www.straitstimes.com/sport/f...clubs-to-get-automatic-champions-league-s
pots
According to EPFL chief whose organization will have a seat at the table with UEFA regarding competitions in the future:
http://www.insideworldfootball.com/...nd-common-stakeholder-ground-lay-foundati
ons/

So if this is the case, the Champions League from 2021 may have less auto berths.

Here's how I would format it if that were the case and return the format to something close to that seen in the
mid 2000s.
1) I would get rid of the runners up from leagues 9-15 as they are neither champions or from big leagues.
2) I would merge the champions and non-champions path.
3) I would condense qualifying down to three rounds.

20 automatic group stage participants:
CL title holder
EL title holder
Champions (1-8)
Runners up (1-6)
3rd (1-4)

Playoff Round (24 clubs):
Champions (9-12)
Runners up (7-8)
3rd (5-6)
4th (1-4)
12 winners from previous round

2nd Qualifying Round (24 clubs):
Champions (13-18)
18 winners from previous round

1st Qualifying Round (36 clubs):
Champions (19-55, excluding Liechtenstein)

There would be between 72-74 clubs and if the CL or EL winner qualifies through league position the champion from the 9th ranked league qualifies for the group stage; if both winners qualify, the champion from the 9th AND 10th ranked leagues qualifies for the group stage.

This is "just" a call for less spots from someone from outside a top league.

I can't see UEFA taking away spots any more from the top leagues (unfortunately), since UEFA will be afraid these leagues will start a Superleague and so UEFA will lose a lot of money since sponsors will not pay as much if the top clubs are missing in the CL.

The evolution of the football competitions in the recent decades shows only one way forward: expansion. It is more likely that UEFA will expand the group stage than to take berths from the top 4 countries.
It will be really funny if somehow France catches Italy for the four position and Italy ends up once again with three teams.

I do not agree. And i don't believe.

32 spots, big country can now get 5 spots.

So top 10 country ranking 1 automatique spot is absolute minimum. Otherwise, blow iT up and start superleague if you go for less spots outside big 5

Surely this is better than the system which will start next season but I believe the correct format is something close to current. I could only give 4th direct spot just to 1st ranking country instead of 12th country champion (which would take it back if EL and CL holders already have qualified to GS) I would also prefer instead of having q3 kai q4 to have 10 groups of 4 teams (no matter if are champions or not) where 1st placed team would qualify to CL GS and runner up to EL GS

I think that in future the champions league will expand.
First step to 36 teams then a decade later 40 teams.
With main purpose extra big teams from the big 5.
For more money tv rights.

Then the tv- contribution from the big teams will increase to the clubs from the big 5.

36 teams. 9 groups of 4 teams.

How to next round ,of 16 teams?
2 groups only the groupswinner go through. And those 2 groups there will be placed 1 big team and 3 little teams.. Of the 2 groups with the least teampoints of the 4 clubs together only groupswinner will go through.
Or round 2 will be a mini-round. The 4 weakest team on spot 2 will play 2 games with 2 teams winning. So 14 +2 is 16 teams

Then it will be 40 teams one day. That will be the maximum.
10 groups of 4 teams.
Round2 : 10 second placed teams will play 2 matches, with 5 winners.
Round3 : 10 groupswinners from round1 and 4 winners from round 2, there will be 1 team from round 2 get a bye. Randomly.
Round 4: 7 winners of rond 3 and the lucky team.
So you get more days broadcasting matches.

For 10 groups is much easier play-off format:
- all group winners qualify for Last 16 Rd;
- best 2 runners-up qualify for Last 16 Rd;
- the rest of the group runners up (8 teams) play home and away in Mid-February for the last 4 remaining spots in the Last 16 Rd.

The Last 16 Rd will be played on 6 matchdays instead of 8.

sure, cause 2021, Germany will drop out of top 4......so they will find anything not to give France a spot more ........

what means here the 3 (3rd of the Ligue1) in grey put in GS of the CL...and....in L3 ? I thought the 3rd of country ranked 5 would enter QR4, the playoff-round ?
