Here's that dive I mentioned:

Is that the kind of mentality you're breeding into your young players Valencia?

I don`t know what`s the right word, but pathetic, sad, disgusting all come to mind. And the ref bought into it!Lorric wrote:Here's that dive I mentioned:

The ref is a problem, but now this is perhaps time for an apology, right ?Lorric wrote:Here's that dive I mentioned:

I don't get why there isn't made more consequence in order to deal with such things. It ruins the game,
and starting in that age, isn't helping.
He is injured, he's out for six months.....
Yes, The Daily Mirror wrote an apologySteffenM wrote:The player?

This dind't look pretty, but apperently may have had some other causes.

Paul Gardner, in World Soccer, has written that the witch hunt for "divers" is a much worse plague upon the sport than actual diving. Happens I was watching the game in question. It was so obvious that there was no dive, I couldn't figure out the commentary stating that this was one of the "worst dives ever" or some such. Players are still allowed to fall down . . . or perhaps not The pro-Celtic announcer was all over this "shameful dive . . ." The announcer's fate should be . . . a red card, and a four-game suspension from announcing.
Pardon the rant, please
Edit: I don't want to leave any impression that I thought this was a foul, either. Had already seen player(s) falling on this playing surface, losing their footing with no defender near.

"Past performance is no guarantee of future results."
I Googled his name, and there are loads of articles about the dive, I'm quite surprised it's been that widely picked up on. I could only see one that states Valencia claim he injured himself.
If he has, well this is the first time I can think of that one of those ridiculous overly dramatic flailing arm falls that footballers like to do when they dive turns out to be a real injury.

Even if it was a shameful dive, I'd like to point out once again the difference in treatment based on who's doing the diving. Spanish youngster dives and it's shameful, disgusting, typical from the Spanish (or Portuguese or Italian, South American, etc), even Valencia is criticised implying that they're deliberately teaching and encouraging their youngsters to dive.
Robben dives and the reactions are completely different. The action is criticised but not too much, he remains liked and nobody says "is this what they teach in the Netherlands?".
I mentioned Robben as an example but could have used several others like Steven Gerrard who actively speaks against diving and does it himself. I have more respect for Diego Costa who's openly dirty and not an hypocrite about it.

With me personally, Spanish players have never built a reputation as divers. The rest you listed though have. Italy a lot less so these days.

It's exactly that reputation that some countries supposedly have and others don't that I'm disputing. How much of the Portuguese bad reputation is based on just 2 players (early Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani)? 80%? For the Premier League followers, these 2 were by far the players with the most exposure, they dive and so everyone is ready to paint a whole nation with a single brush. What if I judge English players by watching Ashley Young and Steven Gerrard?Lorric wrote:With me personally, Spanish players have never built a reputation as divers. The rest you listed though have. My point isn't that the Portuguese or South Americans don't dive. It's that players from everywhere do, there are no good and bad nationalities. Bale dives, Ribery dives, Rooney dives, Drogba dived, Klinsmann dived... Scandinavians? Elmander, Pedersen...
