"an effort on goal" works fine, but sounds a bit stilted. "a shot on goal" is a bit better, but is a bit awkward in the given sentence. Player X shoots on goal. . . . would sound a little less artificial.

Real Madrid 1-1 Legia Warsaw at HT. Very balanced game so far and a fair result.
Real take the lead at 62'. 2-1.
Legia tie the game at 65'. A header by Bondarenko after a corner kick.
Once again, Real retake the lead at 76'. 3-2.

Midtjylland and Anderlect are free btw. and you will get "free placing" on the straights in the stadium.
So no excuses for not attending!
