French season 2011-12

Post by Lyonnais »

The Ligue 1 will start on August 6 and will end on May 20.

The "Trophée des Champions" (Super Cup) between Lille (title holder) and Marseille (2nd of last season as Lille made the double in 2011) will take place tonight in Tanger (Morocco).

Here is the location of the 20 clubs involved in the 2011-12 season (Ligue 1)

Just to remember that Evian, Ajaccio and Dijon are the three promoted teams at the expense of Monaco, Lens and Arles-Avignon who have been relegated to L2.

Note that there were 4 different champions in the last 4 seasons (Lyon in 2008, Bordeaux in 2009, Marseille in 2010 and Lille in 2011).

Other facts:
- Saint-Etienne is the most titled club with 10 titles (last one in 1981)
- Sochaux is the club which spent the most time in Ligue 1 (63 seasons)
- Paris SG is the oldest club in the Ligue 1 (37 seasons in a row)
- greatest total of points in a season (3 pts-20 clubs): Lyon 2006 with 84 pts
- biggest gap between the champion and the runner-up : Lyon 2007 with 17 pts
- greatest total of points in a season for a relegated team: Monaco 2011 with 44 pts
- unbeaten: Nantes 1995 - 32 games in a row
- wins: Bordeaux 2009/10 - 14 wins in a row
- number of goals in one season (20 clubs): RC Paris 1960 - 118 goals
- best defence in one season (20 clubs): Marseille 1992 - 21 goals

Hey, Lyonnais, got words for us about the Supercup final? My curiosity is piqued--three goals at 90' or so; two of them for Marseille, and a final score of 4-5, Marseille beating Lille, sounds like a heck of a show. :)

... and it was just 1-0 for Lille at HT! Then 2-0 until the 70th min. After that, all hell broke loose. It got 3-3 by the 87th min, then a red card for Lille and in injury time another goal for the champions plus 2 penalties for OM!!

WOW!

yes, that was a good game.

Sure this was entertaining with 4 goals scored between the 87' and the 94' (among them a questionable penalty for Marseille at 4-4), but not only.

I saw 2 teams willing to score goals, and we are not used in France to seeding offensive-minded teams  And at last, but the not the least, I saw 2 teams able to develop some good football and create some good chances.

So I guess that both managers can be rather satisfied of the performance of their teams.
Deschamps will certainly underline that they won't be able to score every time 5 goals to win a game and that they must be much more focused in defense but he certainly appreciated the team spirit of his team able to come-back from 1-3 to 5-4 in the dying minute. Amalfitano missed his game but susbsitute Jordan Ayew (the young brother of André) was again convincing and should be close to the regular starters this season.
Same for Rudi Garcia. As he mentioned in the post-game interviews, Lille made some mistakes and can only blame themselves to have allowed Marseille to come back but they made a good game generally speaking, have not lost their flair and attacking skills and this first official game is interesting for them too.

MARSEILLE - LILLE 5-4
A. Ayew 71' pen. 90' pen. 90+5' Morel 85' Rémy 87'; Balmont 9' Hazard 57' Sow 72' Basa 90+2'
Chedjou (Lille) sent off 89'

MARSEILLE: Mandanda - Fanni, Diawara, Mbia, Morel - Lucho, Diarra, Cheyrou (Kaboré) - Amalfitano (J. Ayew) , Rémy, A. Ayew
coach: D. Deschamps

LILLE: Landreau - Debuchy, Basa, Chedjou, Béria - Balmont, Mavuba, Pedretti - Payet (Rodelin), Sow, Hazard (Gueye)
coach: R. Garcia

No cause Rennes don't even deserve to be top of the League. Dijon were unlucky not to be up at least 1-0 if not 2-0 before Rennes even came into the game.

If a game never reflected the score Dijon 1 - 5 Rennes would be it.

1-0 Pollet (Pén) 57'

I thought Tours were very unlucky not to take this match to Extra Time three times they hit the bar twice in the last ten minutes. it was a very clear penalty for Lens.

Tours from this showing should do well in Ligue 2. Lens defence still looks weak and will need work to win back promotion to Ligue 1.
