So, time for club football again, then?

I'll maybe write an intro post with some comments about each team as I've done in a season or two in the past, but only once I catch up with what the clubs have been doing, I have no idea what's going on yet. :P

Tough start for FC Porto:
1. Rio Ave vs. FC Porto
CL Playoff
2. FC Porto vs. Estoril Praia
CL playoff
3. Sporting vs. FC Porto

These are NOT teams Porto usually do well against, especially Estoril (our biggest bogey team) and Sporting. And with the all important CL playoff in between, the first big priority, it'll be difficult to emerge with 9 points after the first 3 games.

Porto needs some more players in order to be a contender for the league...

Benfica looks very strong and Sporting is at the same level of the last year, but weaker than Benfica...

So Porto really needs to improve... The way I see it right now, they will fight with Braga for the 3rd place.

It's a bit early to analyse squads when there's still a month of transfer window left. Right now, I'd agree Porto are 3rd, but imo Sporting are clearly 1st. However, that's right now, Sporting haven't sold anyone yet and that will change very soon. How many of the European Champion quartet will leave? How will Sporting look then?

About Benfica, they lost Nico Gaitán and Renato Sanches already, that's quite something. And several other players have clubs following them, how many more will leave?

As for FC Porto, the team isn't that bad. Last season was so bad that we are conditioned to think we need a revolution. But I remember the 2010/11 season, probably our strongest team ever, we had a perfect season with pretty much the same players that had an embarrassing season the year before. We signed Moutinho and Otamendi, key signings sure, but hardly a revolution (also James Rodríguez, but he was very young and only started playing in the 2nd half of the season and even then he was rotating with Varela). So why can't we see the same this time? If we get the best out of the likes of Herrera, Corona, Bueno, André Silva, etc, how much stronger do we look already with players we've had all along? That's what AVB did in 2011 with Falcao, Hulk, etc.

I think we only need another central defender (if Martins Indi is indeed to send away) and an alternative to André Silva (but only an alternative, André Silva should be the starter and have his breakaway season). Of course, Porto are likely to sell some players to balance the books as well, and that might force us to sign replacements. Brahimi and Aboubakar seem to be the ones on the way out.

Supercup

Benfica 3-0 Braga
1-0 Franco Cervi 10'
2-0 Jonas 75'
3-0 Pizzi 90+2'

Season started in Portugal! Benfica wins the first trophy. A bit heavy for Braga, who did most of the attacking in the 2nd half, but only the ones that go in count.

Benfica seems solid. Winning 3-0 vs Braga is no easy task.

Let's see if they have anyone competing with them
