Argentina needs to change that ridiculous system with the 30 (or 28 now) teams. Just get them to a normal number (20) and have a normal championship, like Brazil !

I follow it a bit, being here, but not that much. I may leave a game on while I do something else and I keep an eye on the scores but that's it.
My girlfriend and her family support Independiente, which kinda makes me support them. They're kind of the Liverpool of the place, always had more success internationally (they actually have the continent's record of most Copa Libertadores won: 9) than in the league and haven't tasted success in a while. I also support former Porto players, most notably Lisandro López who plays for Racing that just so happen to be Independiente's arch rivals.
Living in Rosario, I should pick a side in the huge city rivalry Rosario Central vs. Newell's Old Boys. It's even more intense than Boca vs. River because it's a city affair while the superclassico teams have fans nationwide. For now I'm neutral, people I know are hardcore Central fans, but I'd have more sympathy for the club if they didn't insist in selling their best players to Benfica (first Di María, then Franco Cervi). NOB is Messi's club and where he plans to end his career.

They're planning to do that: from this season on, 2 more relegated clubs than promoted, so by 2021 or so they'll have 22. This reversal reflects how much of a dirty trick to safeguard the big clubs the 30-team league was in the first place. The AFA didn't want to deal with another River or Independiente relegation.Firnen wrote:Argentina needs to change that ridiculous system with the 30 (or 28 now) teams. Just wanted to add a note to this--I basically follow the teams from Ecuador in the Copa Libertadores (Ecuador is the only place in South America where I've had the opportunity to live). The results of the two teams from Guayaquil were "interesting"angel_87 wrote:Copa Libertadores
The round of 16 was concluded:
River Plate - Guaraní 1-1 (1st leg 2-0 )
51' Pinola - 45+1' Palau
Lanús - The Strongest 1-0 (1st leg 1-1)
84' Sand
Grêmio - Godoy Cruz 2-1 (1st leg 1-0)
28' 59' Pedro Rocha - 13' J.Correa
San Lorenzo - Emelec 0-1 , 5-4 penalties (1st leg 1-0)
47' Lastra
In the quarterfinals (12-14 september / 19-21 september):
Jorge Wilstermann S1 River Plate
San Lorenzo S4 Lanús
Barcelona of Guayaquil beat Palmeiras 1-0 in Guayaquil and then lost 1-0 in Brazil, but progressed 5-4 on penalty kicks.
Emelec of Guayquil lost 0-1 to San Lorenzo at home, then beat San Lorenzo 0-1 in Argentina, but lost 5-4 on penalty kicks.
"Mirror" results

I've lived most of my life in the USA, with several years in Spain, primarily Madrid, Barcelona, and Oviedo. Have lived in Portugal for short stretches, from a few days to a little over a month at a time. My South American experience is limited to six weeks in Ecuador (Quito). Mexico: six days (only , and that was a work trip). Oh, and, unfortunately, 13 months in Vietnam.angel_87 wrote:I hope the River is eliminated by the modest Wilstermann, i'm unlucky to Los Millonarios
I do not like Ecuadorian football, South American i place the Argentine and then Brazilian
However I love both the South American Cup and the Libertadores
But how many places do you live in ??? all over the world??

what I don't like about Latin American leagues is Apertura and Clausura (apparently Argentina got rid of it tho) and that there is a separate table for relegation
Argentina league also has to very strange format, with 28 clubs playing each other just once. And I think they have 1 extra matchday with a extra derby match.subway14 wrote:what I don't like about Latin American leagues is Apertura and Clausura (apparently Argentina got rid of it tho) and that there is a separate table for relegation

So it is possible to spread games over the weekend even more then they do in Spain.
