Transfer Topic
Badgerboy, badgerboy wrote:It was only a silly quiz thing on the radio but it was said that "Bayern Munich fans" (didn't say how many fans) had been protesting outside the stadium. Three options were given for the reason & the correct one was that they had signed a player from their "bitter rivals" Schalke.
Was there any truth in this?
there was a lot of trouble before and around this transfer in both clubs.
The problem is, Neuer was not just born and playing in Gelsenkirchen, he was a fan since his childhood and is (still) member of a Schalke "Ultra" fan club.
Additionally, 2 years ago in a match in Munich which Schalke won, he imitated and made fun of Munich "idol" Olli Kahn.
So some silly Bayern "Ultras" protested beforehand with transparents against this transfer and still don't want to have him and some silly Schalke "Ultras" want to see him dead now (though it would have probably been worse for them, had he left for Dortmund).
Let him make two or three good matches for Bayern and the trouble will be over...

Costanzo was anticipated in the past to be the #1 for Argentina but frequent injuries had kept him away from the very top level and the national first squad (capped in 2003). He comes from a successful season with FC Basel having played 32 games.
Among other things, he stated that he rejected offers from Germany, Italy and Spain, with Olympiakos being his #1 priority amid his options.
Costanzo is intended for a starter goalkeeper, and Olympiakos is currently looking for a "#2" GK, because Pardo is not expected to stay, following the retirement of Nikopolidis.

I visited Olympiacos' wikipedia page two weeks ago. Sokratis and Valdez were written in the squad and now they are not. Did the negotiations fail?UCL_Lover wrote:Argentinian goalkeeper Franco Costanzo has agreed to move to Olympiacos CFP. He is expected to arrive to Piraeus today, to do the required medical tests and sign the 3 year contract.

Wiki? You mean the place where anyone anytime may visit and modify the contents? This is a good option for the responsible visitors of the page, but we have many people who tend to assault Wiki for various reasons...both friends and "enemies"...saras21 wrote:I visited Olympiacos' wikipedia page two weeks ago. There were not even negotiations for those two you mention. Just rumors.

Do you love rumors? No, neither do I. English press has Rossi already signed by Barsa for about 30 million euros, and has CR7 demanding to go to Manchester CITY. My own self, I tend to discount both of these rumors, since Barsa is presumably going to go full steam after Cesc before they do anything else in the purchase column. Oh, and if they get Cesc, Thiago Alcantara is rumored to be planning to leave Barsa.

Good for uncovering corruption etc in politics. Rubbish at football gossip.
It's probably slightly unfair to lump the entire "English Press" into one.
Not that I have any idea which papers (if any) are any good at football rumours. But I'd suggest the tabloids (Sun, Star, Mirror, Mail & Express) roughly in that order are more likely to blow unfounded speculation into a big fat headline than the broadsheets.
Thiago Alcantara was in the papers here yesterday too. Apparently he claimed - or was badly translated as claiming depending on who you believe - that he'd never heard of any of the English U21 players. Another nice bout of blowing things out of proportion - & getting the odd English player to confirm they hadn't heard of many of the Spanish players either - ensued.

Sunday Times - hmmm not a "tabloid" then.
By the way - my last post wasn't supposed to be accusatory in any way & if it was then the accusation/defence would have been in response to Michael S Collins

I'm glad I'm not currently drinking anything as I'd probably be spluttering it all over my keyboard at the notion that the Spanish football dailies might manage to fill their pages with purely factual reporting (excluding stuff where they're quoting from overseas sources obviously). If the English papers have to make stuff up (or at least greatly overblow spurious gossip) what must the Spanish have to do to fill entire newspapers purely about football?Michael S Collins wrote:I think you can stop listening at the English press bit.
