I am aware of them under the name Varteks and not under Varazdin. Keeping track on who calls what team what is getting a bit confusing at times!bugylibicska wrote:Fine, self deprecating humour man, really appreciated. I`m still able to cheer the Tartan Army, though. In that one you`re wrong, Varazdin (Varteks) is a regular in the cups in the last decade, or so.

Varteks changed name into Varazdin last year. That was a sign of a protest, because sponsor (Varteks ltd.) stopped providing money (they are in crisis).
But fans never accepted name change, and want it reverted back to Varteks, so it's possible that soon they change it back into Varteks again (despite getting zero money from company in question).
Although it's sponsor, it's with the club for decades (btw, that company is also symbol of that city), so everybody is used to it. Name became part of a tradition, even their nickname is "dressmakers" (because that's clothes company).
Yes, they are known club, reached quarterfinals of one of the latest CWC editions.

"And at Tannadice, nervous scenes here in the penalty shootout. The goalkeeper of Slask is coming up to take a penalty. It is 0-0 as it stands in the shootout. 2-2 on aggregate, four unfortunate own goals across the 2 legged tie. Dundee United have missed 14 penalties in this shootout, but Slask missed 3 penalties before the shootout, including one that scientists claim was physically impossible to miss by all known laws of nature."Polak wrote:Ah well then we have a problem because Polish teams also tend to lose because they are Polish.Michael S Collins wrote:They are Scottish. Doesn't that answer the question?
In this case we might have 2 draws and then a penalty shoot out that never ends.
3 hours later...
"And UEFA have decided to decide this tie on rock paper sissors..."
4 hours later.
"Ok, rock paper sissors led to too many ties. UEFA will now draw one team out of random from a hat."
5 minutes later.
"Who put BOTH teams names on all the bits of paper?"
UEFA then decides to do something coefficientish to sort it out, and a 30 page thread is started on this forum about the decision.

Voronkov gets the first UEFA Cup goal of the season, and an away goal at that, for Minsk. AZAL ought to have stopped it.
The coach of AZAL claims he will resign if they don't make it into Round 2.
AZAL equalise! Go Azerbaijanians! Simple header from a corner.
I do like AZAL's stadium. Clearly a very small - communal? - one, so around the goal which was just scored are giant posters of footballers! Such a bizarre and unique looking stadium.

Rabotnicki and Qarabag, both teams I'd like to do well, off to fliers.Stojanovic Milos wrote:I'm very excited. I love this competition. A lot of matches and nice teams.Michael S Collins wrote:And we start off with AZAL/Minsk.
Excited?
Ok, that makes one of us.
Rad, mentioned earlier in this thread, are 2-0 up already, admittedly against distinctly weak opposition.
