Congratulations Frankfurt! :clapping:

They're the only German team in UYL with a win so far. Leverkusen is bottom of Group B with 0 points, Bayern is bottom of Group C with 2 points, Leipzig is bottom of Group F with 1 point, and Dortmund is 3rd placed in Group G with 1 point.

Frankfurt on the other hand is still undefeated here, and has more points than the other four German teams combined!

In the other match, Marseille 0-6 Sporting was the biggest win in Sporting's UYL history, above the 4-1 win vs Juventus in 2017.

It was also the biggest defeat in Marseille's UYL history, above 0-3 vs Tottenham in round 1 this season, 1-4 vs Arsenal in 2013 and 2-5 vs Dortmund also in 2013.

Adán had a disastrous match in France. Marseille's first goal was his fault, the second was also started by a poor clearance from him, and then he was sent off a few minutes later.

In just 10 minutes Sporting went from a 1-0 lead to a 1-2 disadvantage and numerical disadvantage too. :fingal:

They are still in a much better situation than last season. They're leading the group with 6 points (last season they only had 3), and with a win in round 4 they'll restore the 6 points advantage to Marseille, they'll also have a 4 points advantage to both Tottenham and Frankfurt if they draw again, or a 2 points advantage to the winner and 5 points advantage to the loser if they don't draw again.

Marseille lost its last 9 CL away matches (Inter, Bayern, Dortmund, Napoli, Arsenal, Olympiacos, Porto, Manchester City and Tottenham), so Sporting should be able to defeat them too.

I put OM in the second place because on paper they have a better schedule than Eintracht and Sporting. Hopefully Eintracht will not finish 4th.
Tottenham 7
Marsille 6
Sporting 6
Eintracht 4

A spurs win against Sporting would put them at 10 points and qualified, with the first place assured in case of an Eintracht win against OM. My prediction after two games seemed silly, but it's well alive now. A relaxed Tottenham in France might help OM.
If Tottenham win and Eintracht - OM ends in a draw, we would have:

Tottenham 10, OM 7, Sporting 6, Eintracht 5

A OM victory (with the margin of one goal) in France against Tottenham would please both teams: Tottenham first, OM 2nd and qualified too

Let's see if Sporting can complicate things by not losing in England, or if OM can simplify them by winning in Germany.

They defeated Tottenham once again, this time away, and recovering from a 0-2 disadvantage at half-time to win 3-2!

Now Frankfurt only needs a draw in round 5 against Marseille to progress from the group stage with a game to spare.
Sporting too also only needs a draw in round 5 against Tottenham to progress from the group stage with a game to spare.
Tottenham and Marseille are both hanging by a thread here, they must win their round 5 games.

Marseille became the first French team winning in Portugal in a CL match!

Benfica has 5 wins (LOSC, Lyon x2, Paris and Monaco) and 1 draw (Paris).
Boavista has 1 win (Nantes).
Porto has 6 wins (Marseille x3, Lyon, Paris and Monaco) and 2 draws (Nantes and Paris).
And Sporting now has 1 win (Monaco)... and 1 defeat (Marseille). :fingal:

So Sporting interrupted a "tradition" with over three decades and 16 matches. :sigh:

Tottenham will qualify to the CL last 16 in round 5 with a win against Sporting.
Marseille will qualify to the CL last 16 in round 5 with a win against Frankfurt and Sporting not winning in England.
Frankfurt will be last placed if in round 5 they lose and Sporting wins.

To win the group: strangely no odds for qualifying, they must have forgotten

Tottenham 1.40
Marseille 5.00
Sporting 6.50
Frankfurt 29.00

Tottenham won and now very close to qualify, even favourite to win the group. Marseille surprisingly did the double over Sporting and now have good chances to avoid the bottom. Quite a feat after starting with 2 potatoes.

Tottenham 7
Marseille 6
Sporting 6
Frankfurt 4

Next: Tottenham - Sporting, Frankfurt - Marseille.

To win the group, to qualify:

Tottenham 1.83 1.28
Sporting 3.50 1.36
Frankfurt 5.00 3.00
Marseille 11.00 3.50

Tottenham missed their first chance to secure qualification, now they might end up in the EL. On the other hand Sporting got a new life line, their fate lies in their own hand. Exciting last day, all 4 have chances to qualify.

Tottenham 8
Sporting 7
Frankfurt 7
Marseille 6

Next: Marseille - Tottenham, Sporting - Frankfurt.

They both progressed from the group stage, and now they'll have a direct fight for the first place next week. Sporting will keep it if they don't lose, while Frankfurt will get it if they win.

For what it's worth, Tottenham and Marseille will also have a direct fight for the third place, Tottenham will keep it if they don't lose, and Marseille will get it if they win.

Tottenham also can't lose to avoid being the worst ever Tottenham in UYL history. The worst ever was in 2016/2017 with 4 points and a -4 GD in a group with Monaco, CSKA Moskva and Leverkusen.

As for Marseille, this is already their worst ever participation in UYL history. In their only other participation in 2013/2014 they got 7 points, while here best case scenario they'll get 5.

Anything can still happen here (except Tottenham finishing bottom). Instead of explaining it with words, I'll do it with a picture.

I suppose that nearly everyone's attention will be on this group next Tuesday evening. The Group B matches have an early kickoff. In Group C everything is settled. And in Group A huge wins are necessary to change anything.

Here during the 90 minutes I think that we will see several of the 9 possible scenarios happening.

Hopefully videoclownery won't ruin this.

Frankfurt qualified to KO rounds in both UCL and UYL. Undisputed winner of the group D. Remarkable.

Tottenham didn't qualify before the last game. OM almost won anyway, but at the end they lost everything.

Eintracht with six points against Marseille.
Marseille with six points against Sporting (though with early red cards in both games).
Sporting with four points against Tottenham.

Funny group. I was right to put Eintracht over Sporting, even the first game didn't convince me that they are significantly better than Eintracht.

Sporting won the group and qualified directly to the last 16. Frankfurt was eliminated yesterday in the playoffs, losing 0-5 against AZ in Netherlands.

I overestimated the quality of Tottenham's academy, they won the two matches against Marseille, but they couldn't get a single point against the strongest two opponents.

Round 6 in this group was crazy!
0': TOT 9, SPO 8, FRA 8, MAR 7
39': SPO 10, TOT 9, FRA 7, MAR 7
45'+2: SPO 10, MAR 9, TOT 8, FRA 7
54': SPO 10, TOT 9, FRA 7, MAR 7
62': TOT 9, SPO 8, FRA 8, MAR 7
72': FRA 10, TOT 9, MAR 7, SPO 7
90'+5: TOT 11, FRA 10, SPO 7, MAR 6

During the matches, Tottenham was first, second, third, second, first, second and finally first.

Sporting was second, first, second, last, and finally third.

Frankfurt was third, last, third, first and finally second.

And Marseille was last, second, last, third and finally last.

What a rollercoaster of emotions!

Congratulations Tottenham! :applause:

Group winners, they will now face Milan in the last 16. They already eliminated Milan in their CL debut in 2009/2010, also at this stage. Let's see if they can do it again.

Congratulations Frankfurt! :clapping:

CL debutants reaching the last 16! Let's see how much further they'll go.

Congratulations Sporting! :bouncy:

Third place here is really "best case scenario", better than first or second place. First or second place would almost surely mean elimination in the next round. Third place and having Midtjylland as opponent in the EL probably means that Sporting can survive a few more rounds.

Even Marseille's last place here wasn't a complete disaster, 6 points is a 100% improvement compared to their previous participation. They are the "best last placed team".

I was wrong about Sporting finishing above Frankfurt... If Vincic's refereeing in Sporting vs Frankfurt was similar to Frankfurt vs Rangers in the EL final, I would have been 100% correct about this group's final order. :dontknow:
