Germany won but it wasn't enough. They expected Spain to win too, or at least draw, so this win by two goals difference would suffice. They didn't consider the possibility of Japan winning.

Two World Cups in a row without progressing from the group stage. They probably believe that it can't get any worse. Actually it can.

Italy also won a World Cup, then four years later and eight years later couldn't progress from the group stages... and then twelve and sixteen years later they couldn't even qualify anymore. Perhaps the same can happen to Germany too. It will be harder now because the World Cup will be expanded, but it's not impossible.

By the way, Bayern in the CL has awesome defensive and offensive records (compared to the xG and xGA). Here in the World Cup, Germany with seven Bayern starters has bad defensive and offensive records.

Some people think that it's crucial to have players at top clubs, preferably several from the same club to take advantage of their routines... Here Germany had all that and they still failed. Qatar and Saudi Arabia also had several players from the same club and they too failed. This theory doesn't seem to have a lot of evidence to support it. :dontknow:

Spain had more possession than the girl from The Exorcist, but they still lost. :grin1:

Congratulations Japan and Spain!

It's the first time that Japan progresses from the World Cup group stages in consecutive editions. And they did it four times in the last six editions, they're definitely a football superpower now.

Spain had a good start (7-0 win vs Costa Rica), then a medium second match (1-1 vs Germany), and now they had a bad third match (1-2 defeat against Japan, which was still enough to advance because Germany didn't smash Costa Rica in the other match). What's next, an even worse fourth match and elimination against Morocco?

I heard it several years ago in a Catalonian TV show named "Crackòvia". They said "Barça tiene más posesión que la niña del Exorcista".

Crackòvia was really funny, I'm remembring Coentrão explaining to Mourinho he needs to smoke :grin1:
