I missed the Arsenal match last night. The report seemed to suggest that it was quite comfortable despite the short lived scare when Zurich scored a fine goal to narrow the deficit. Several changes to the main starting line-up were made by Arsenal last night.

After the Arsenal women beat the Zurich women last night at home, the men will be looking to complete the double next week at home in the Europa League.

after MD 2 the qualification spots for the KO rounds are in the hands of:
2 English
2 Spanish
2 Germans
2 Italian
Where do I recognize this order from.... Especially with French on 5th spot

The second disappointing MD for the 2 French teams, surprisingly...

Somewhat related to this topic:

Yesterday, the final of the Copa Libertadores Femenina was played in Ecuador. Palmeiras beat Boca Juniors 4-1 to win their first continental title.

With the agreement between UEFA and CONMEBOL, will there be a finalissima between the women’s club champions?

Obviously the men’s club champions from Europe and South America used to play the Intercontinental Cup, before it was replaced by the larger FIFA Club World Cup. FIFA had previously proposed a women’s version, but no tournament has been organised yet.

Currently there are continental women’s club championships in Africa and Asia, but not in North America and Oceania.

The second edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League will begin tomorrow in Morocco with eight teams. Six qualified through zonal qualifying, to be joined by the host representatives, and the defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who won the inaugural tournament last year.

The first edition of the AFC Women’s Club Championship was played in 2019. The zonal stage of this year’s tournament was played in August, with College of Asian Scholars from Thailand winning the East, and Sogdiana-W from Uzbekistan winning the West. No date or venue are currently set for the final.

Even though there is currently no official world championship for women’s club teams, various “unofficial” invitational competitions have been played between teams from different continents and countries to decide the world’s “best” women’s club. The International Women's Club Championship was played in Japan between 2012 and 2014, while the Women's International Champions Cup has been played in the United States since 2018. Unsurprisingly, Lyon have had success in these tournaments, winning in 2012, 2019 and 2022.

No Intercontinental Cup for Women. The only club competition in the UEFA CONMEBOL agreement is between UEFA Youth League winner and U20 Libertadores (Benfica won).

The others competitions are the finalíssimas in
Men's football
Women's football
Men's futsal

Yes in the current agreement there is no match for women’s club teams. However, at first UEFA and CONMEBOL only agreed to play a match between the men’s international champions. As it said in the article, after the match between Argentina and Italy, they announced three more events, for women’s international teams, men’s youth club teams, and men’s international futsal teams. So if both agree they can add even more events in the future.

Of course one obstacle would be that the elite women’s club teams of Europe and South America have a wide gap in terms of talent.

This has been happening the last two evenings overlapping with the men's world cup.

A decent away draw for Arsenal yesterday evening with a welcome goal for Miedema, her first in 7 matches, and according to the report Arsenal should probably have won. We were missing 6 of our best players through injury, 3 of them long term including Beth Mead unfortunately, who is even said to be a doubt for the women's world cup next summer.

England is topping both the groups where they play in, but sofar has not really gained much in the ranking yet
Italy is doing the best due to their 2 teams
Portugal has catched up with the Netherlands who for the second year in a row lost both their teams before the groupstage.
Portugal is close to getting their 3rd team, even before a second team has even entered the competition. Great work by Benfica.
I dont see Switzerland making it to the top 16 this year

An unimpressive but hard fought and important 1-0 win to Arsenal last night against Juventus, Arsenal with a few players back but still some out through injury. Lyon won the other match against Zurich as expected. Arsenal need just one more point for qualification and still a good chance to win the group even with a narrow defeat against Lyon next week.

In the other group Bayern with an impressive win against Barcelona, but probably not enough to win the group due to head to head results. These two teams should both make it through as expected.

Good thing for us that Arsenal won their game vs. Juventus.

After 4 games, we now have
Arsenal 10 pts
Lyon 7
Juventus 5
Zürich 0

Assuming that Arsenal and Juventus win their remaining game vs. Zürich, Arsenal will have 13 pts and Juventus 8 pts.
This means that:
(i) Arsenal winner at Lyon 5-1 has won the group bar a huge score in the Arsenal-Lyon game (5+ goal difference)
(ii) the second spot will be played between Lyon and Juventus. Lyon are playing Arsenal away and Juventus at home and thus need at least 1 point in these games with a better goal difference to go through.

Arsenal with a disappointing 0-1 home defeat to Lyon last night in another fairly dull encounter, but it was not expected to be as dramatic as the first encounter by these teams.

More disappointing than the result though, which can be rectified by beating Zurich in the final match to claim top position, is an apparently bad injury to Miedema who had to be carried off on a stretcher and which could rule her out for some time.

The other matches yesterday all ended up with expected victories for the favourites.

so in Group C, Arsenal will secure their first place with a win vs. Zürich, which should easily be achievable - they can even top the group with 1 point as long as OL don't defeat Juventus.
OL-Juventus will decide which team advance to the quarters. Juve need to win otherwise it will be Lyon.

In group D, Barcelona and Bayern are qualified.
They have the same number of points with the HtH advantage to Barcelona.
Barcelona host Rosengaard whereas Bayern host Benfica for the last MD

MD5 for Groups A and B to be played tonight.
