NEW HOST VENUE FOR OFC MEN’S NATIONS CUP GROUP B

https://www.oceaniafootball.com/new-hos ... p-group-b/

Uncertainty around Air Vanuatu’s flight schedules has forced OFC to move Group B fixtures in next month’s OFC Men’s Nations Cup 2024 from Luganville on the island of Santo in Vanuatu, to Fiji’s capital Suva.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from 15-30 June.

The Vanuatu Football Federation (VFF) will remain host for the Group A matches in Port Vila involving New Caledonia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, as well as the semi-finals and final.

The VFF exhausted all options in finding a solution but due to uncertain flight schedules, the OFC Executive Committee has made the decision to shift Group B matches featuring Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tahiti from Luganville’s Soccer City Stadium to Suva’s HFC Bank Stadium.

Air Vanuatu recommended focusing only on the flights arriving in Port Vila due to security concerns for flights to Santo. They could not guarantee the flights from Port Vila to Santo.

The semi-final originally scheduled for Luganville, has been moved to Port Vila, which will now host both semi-finals, the playoff for third place and the final.

The play-off matches for 5th and 7th place respectively have been cancelled.

The semi-finals have been moved forward a day from June 26 to June 27 to allow the travelling teams adequate time to prepare. The final scheduled for June 30 is unchanged.

This decision was made in the best interests of OFC, participating nations as well as VFF as the host nation.

The title of this thread should now be changed to "OFC Men’s Nations Cup Vanuatu / Fiji 2024".

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) the person who created this thread is no longer posting on this forum.

So I ask @bert.kassies, can you change the name?

NEW CALEDONIA WITHDRAW FROM OFC MEN’S NATIONS CUP 2024

6 JUNE 2024 OFCMEDIA4

New Caledonia have withdrawn from this month’s OFC Men’s Nations Cup 2024 in Vanuatu and Fiji.

The Pacific Games champions were due to play their Group A matches against New Zealand, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands in Port Vila, Vanuatu.

The Fédération Caledonienne de Football (FCF) has made the decision to withdraw the national team from the tournament due to the current crisis in New Caledonia.

Group A will now feature Solomon Islands, New Zealand and co-hosts Vanuatu.

Group B in Suva contains Papua New Guinea, Tahiti, Samoa and co-hosts Fiji.

The top two teams from each group advance to the semi-finals in Port Vila.

See below for the updated match schedule.

I guess it was too short notice, it's a shame they couldn't bring in another team to replace NC.

Yeah, not to mention the collapse of Air Vanuatu which means travel to the country is extremely chaotic, causing OFC to relocate one of the groups to Fiji. Now the Vanuatu group will only have three teams, while there are four teams in the Fiji group.

After the Vanuatu club Ifira Black Bird finished playing in the OFC Champions League in mid-May, it took some of the players more than two weeks to return to the island from Tahiti.

I am surprised, I thought you can get odds from betting companies for all kinds of matches, and this is a tournament to decide the confederation champions.

In the old days when the OFC Nations Cup champions went on to represent Oceania in the FIFA Confederations Cup, there was at least a little bit of attention internationally for this tournament, particularly when Tahiti pulled off the upset and won the title in 2012 and qualified for the 2013 Confed Cup in Brazil. Now without this incentive, this tournament is sadly getting close to zero coverage. New Zealand sent a half-strength team (without the likes of Chris Wood), and even given that the other OFC teams don't look much competitive against them so far, but we shall see what happens when we reach the knockout stage.

Anyway, today on 22 June, we will have a total of 7 international matches across the 3 confederation championships inside a 24-hour window, starting with the 2 matches in the OFC Nations Cup, where the first match will kick off in less than an hour, then later 3 matches in Euro (last day before the simultaneous kick-offs of the final matchday), and wrapped up late in the evening (or early morning for Europeans) with the first day where there are 2 matches in the Copa America. Somebody (not me) may attempt to watch (or bet on) all of them!
