The opening Group matches have been completed on the Road to Canada, Mexico and the United States FIFA World Cup 26™ for the eight remaining Oceania hopefuls.
Group A action in Suva saw New Caledonia and Fiji strike first with Johann Sidaner’s New Caledonia side beating Papua New Guinea 3-1 and Rob Sherman’s Fijian team edging Solomon Islands 1-0.

It all means that PNG will have to make the most of home ground advantage when the FIFA World Cup 26 ™ Oceania Qualifiers Group A action resumes in Port Moresby next month.
The Solomon Islands plays New Caledonia, before PNG entertains Fiji on November 14. Three days later PNG meet the Solomon Islands and Fiji plays New Caledonia with the top two teams in the Group qualifying for the semi-finals
The opening matches in Group B concluded in Port Vila yesterday with hosts Vanuatu beating Samoa 4-1, a day after New Zealand dispatched Tahiti 3-0.

The action moves to Hamilton, New Zealand where the hosts will face Vanuatu, and Tahiti will play Samoa on November 15. Then three days later in Auckland, Vanuatu and Tahiti meet before New Zealand plays Samoa.
The semi-finals and final will be held in New Zealand in March 2025 with the winner qualifying directly for the FIFA World Cup 2026. ™ It is the first time Oceania has direct entry to the World Cup and in another first, the runner-up will have a chance to qualify via an Intercontinental playoff.
It will be a busy month ahead for the eight head coaches as they plot their strategies for what will be an exciting conclusion to the Group phase of the FIFA World Cup 26 ™ Oceania Qualifiers.

OFC competition hosts confirmed for 2025

Fiji is set to host two major tournaments on the OFC Competitions calendar in 2025, following the OFC Executive Committee’s confirmation of the schedule at their meeting on 25 September 2024 in Auckland, New Zealand.
The OFC Men’s Champions League 2025 will take place in Fiji at the end of March to mid-April (TBC) with the country also hosting the OFC Women’s Nations Cup 2025 in July.
Tahiti will host the OFC Women’s Champions League 2025 for the first time in May, along with the OFC U-19 Women’s Championship 2025, scheduled for the end of September and early October in Papeete.
Tonga will play host to two competitions in 2025, with both the OFC U-19 Women’s Championship – Qualifying and OFC U-16 Men’s Championship – Qualifying taking place in the Kingdom.
As previously announced, New Zealand will host the final match days of the FIFA World Cup 26™ Oceania Qualifiers in March. These matches will determine which team from Oceania qualifies directly for the tournament in Canada, Mexico, and the USA, as well as which team will earn a second chance through the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff.
The Cook Islands will return to hosting OFC tournaments for the first time since 2016, hosting the OFC Men’s Champions League – Qualifying in February, the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship – Qualifying at the end of April to the beginning of May, and Match Days 1 and 2 of the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™ Oceania Qualifiers in November and December.
Additionally, the eagerly awaited OFC Professional League is set to launch in 2026, with a kick-off event planned for October 2025.
Both the OFC Men’s and Women’s U-16 Championships are scheduled for August, with the women’s tournament hosted by Samoa and the men’s event taking place in the Solomon Islands. Solomon Islands will also host the OFC Men’s Futsal Cup in September.
The OFC Men’s Futsal Champions League will take place in November in Fiji.
