Of course, there was a lot of talk about Bordeaux recently, but I hadn't realized the extent to which former recent Ligue 1 teams have been demoted below Ligue 2. Nancy, Boulogne, Dijon, Sochaux, Valenciennes, Gazelec Ajaccio, etc. Without even taking into account those one season wonders that plummeted as fast as they reached the top level in the last 2 decades, like Evian, Arles, Istres, Grenoble, etc. At least they don't disappear entirely, Latvian league style.

Main clubs who have faced bankruptcy and thus relegated to the 5th level recover after a couple of years, namely Strasbourg (who beat all attendance records in these lower divisions) but also Bastia or Grenoble who are now playing in L2.
No doubt that Bordeaux will come back pretty soon as well.

Ligue 1 - MD17

Game of the week

BREST - LYON 2-1
Camara 8' Ajorque 25'; Veretout 45'

XG: 1.29 - 1.40

Brest gets back on track and deprives Lyon of the podium!
The Bretons, authors of a high-level performance, snatch a very important victory against a more enterprising OL team in the second half, like Cherki, and temporarily climb to 10th place in the standings, while OL misses the opportunity to climb onto the Ligue 1 podium.
(lequipe.fr, google translation)

BREST (4-3-1-2): Bizot - Lala, Chardonnet, Ndiaye, Haïdara (Amavi 46', Zogbé 90+4') - Camara, Fernandes, Magnetti - Doumbia (Del Castillo 76') - Ajorque (Sima 85') , Baldé (Pereira-Lage 76')
Coach: E.Roy
LYON (4-1-4-1): Perri - Mata, Caleta-Car, Niakhaté, Tagliafico (Abner 46') - Tessmann (Maitland-Niles 67') - Cherki, Veretout (Nuamah 46'), Tolisso, Fofana (Benrahma 80') - Lacazette (Mikautadze 76')

Coupe de France - Round of 32

Marseille, Monaco, Lyon, Rennes all failed to go through this round (in addition to Lens in previous round).

The most shameful elimination is for Lyon eliminated for the first time of their history by a 5th level team (N3) with 2 goals conceded.
Congratulations Bourgoin, a small city located like 50 kms away from Lyon. The double scorer is a mason who defines himself as an ultra of OL who used to have a season ticket (and still goes regularly to the stadium when Bourgoin doesn't play) whereas the other hero of the day the keeper is a 18-year old student who couldn't celebrate too much as he had an exam at school the day after à 8:30 in the morning.
Shameful, there is no other word.

Rennes cannot be proud as well to be eliminated by the L2 team Troyes whereas Marseille and Monaco both failed on penalties in their L1 clashes vs Lille and Reims respectively.

Xpts

What could be the table if all goal chances had been converted?

With the exception of PSG, comfortable leader, quite some surprising results

- Toulouse would be in the CL spots (instead of being in the mid table) but they are the least efficient team, namely offensively with 24 pts vs 30.5 Xpts
- Marseille wouldn't even be European whereas they are now comfortably in the second place but they are top efficient team both offensively and defensively
- at last but not the least, Brest would be in relegation zone.

Offensive efficiency

PSG much above but as in the Champions League they are not scoring the goals they are expected to. It's more difficult when you play without 9.
It's even worst for Monaco who scored 29 goals for 38 XG
Marseille are the most efficient 39 goals for 31 XG

Defensive Efficiency

Surprising to see Toulouse ranked #1 to avoid goal chances but they are among the rare teams to have conceded more goals than expected.
The least efficient team however is not Toulouse but Montpellier who concede numerous goal chances (40 XGA) and even more goals (43).
The most efficient team is Marseille with their excellent keeper Geronimo Rulli. They conceded 20 goals for 28 XGA.
