Battle for important ranking positions 2024-25
Is there an automatic seeding program for the 2025-2026 European Cups?
..
Yes, it is: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1176900488. It's made by @eye.vkgz wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 22:50 Is there an automatic seeding program for the 2025-2026 European Cups?

great battle for the season 2nd place (additional place in UCL 25-26) between Italy and Spain.
They are very close - only 0.1 gap - and both lost one team only at the current stage.
A single goal can make the difference.

I think both of them will snatch the additional UCL place, England will be 3rd.fabiomh wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 00:52 great battle for the season 2nd place (additional place in UCL 25-26) between Italy and Spain.

AV, MU and TOT will probably be eliminated in early stages.
Its highly unlikely, England already has a big lead and if you look at bookies odds, Liverpool and Arsenal are favs in the Champions League, Spurs and Man U in Europa and Chelsea odds on even in this early stage (!) favorite in the Conference. I'd say less than 5% chance of that happeningoliverguo wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 08:35 I think both of them will snatch the additional UCL place, England will be 3rd.

I don't think so. England is 3.300 pts ahead. It is a huge gap at this stage.oliverguo wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 08:35I think both of them will snatch the additional UCL place, England will be 3rd.fabiomh wrote: Wed Feb 12, 2025 00:52 great battle for the season 2nd place (additional place in UCL 25-26) between Italy and Spain.

The gap is too huge for one nation, even in case England will have 3 teams eliminated and Italy and Spain none - Consider that at the current stage England has all the 8 teams still in, while Italy and Spain have both 1 teams alreadu out (Bologna and Girona).
I think that England will be 1st with a good margin.
In any case, even if England will not finish 1st, I am pretty sure that it will be not overtaken by both Itay and Spain.
Some calculation (before the 1st leg of KO PO)
===============
There are 24 teams per competition still "alive".
Points to be distributed per competition (valid for country coeff): 90 = 2*16 (PO) + 2*16 (R16) + 2*8 (Q) + 2*4 (SF) + 2 (F)
Bonus to be distributed : b*(8 + 8 + 4 + 2) = b*22; (UCL: b=1.5 TB=33; UEL: b=1.0 TB=22; COL: b=0.5 TB=11)
Total Points= 90*3=270; Total Bonus=33+22+11=66; TOTAL = 270+66=336
Total teams = 72
Average points per team = 336/72= 4.667
So expected average increase per country:
England = 4.667 * 8 / 8 =4.667
Spain = 4.667 * 6 / 7 = 4.000
Italy = 4.667 * 7 / 8 = 4.084
It's hard to fill a gap of 3.300 pts with so few available points.
The only question is: which country will be 2nd? Italy or Spain?
It depends on how many teams of the two countries will be eliminated on PO KO.
teams playing KO PO :
- Italy (4: 3 in UCL, 1 in UEL): Juve, Milan, Atalanta, Roma;
- Spain (3: 1 in UCL, 1 in UEL, 1 in COL): Real M, Real Sociedad, Betis

Tomorrow Spain will probably overcome Italy, next week will be important. Milan and Juventus should have extra-motivation to advance, if to advance in Champions League alone isn't motivating enough.
It seems that, in the future, France will be 'merged' with the countries that battle for positions 5-8 in UEFA Country Ranking.

Why? I think they were closer to nr 6-8 the last couple of seasons than with the new system. The Netherlands should have had a good season last year to overcome them, now they're assured of 6 European spots every year, just like NA 1-4.seso wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 06:48 It seems that, in the future, France will be 'merged' with the countries that battle for positions 5-8 in UEFA Country Ranking.
I think that Portugal and Belgium have good chances to overtake France in the next seasons.Clockingbell wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:33Why? Three wins for the Netherlands tonight. Battle is over, the Netherlands stay six in ranking
Interesting, And you exclude the Netherlands here becauseseso wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 18:27I think that Portugal and Belgium have good chances to overtake France in the next seasons.Clockingbell wrote: Thu Feb 13, 2025 11:33Why? * they already had their chance (this season) and failed miserably?
* they have more CL teams and are therefore more likely to score less points?
I got to admit that France is lower as the top 3. But so is Italy. If I look at how Milan and Juve could be eliminated by Feyenoord and PSV. They also could still qualify, but there is no real ‘better’ team in these 2 confrontations.
Losing the last 2 years of the current 5 year ranking Netherlands and Portugal are still about the same. Belgium is way ahead then, rooting for 6th. But passing France is a big goal.
Tonight showed (3 losses) that Belgium will have a hard time to keep the performance up
