Jornada 20 starts

17 Jan. 2100 Espanyol 2, Valladolid 1 Here we go--second half of the season coming right up :!: The winner today climbs above the drop. And that would be Espanyol, as Puado lifts Espanyol out of the drop--1-0. Halftime; Alavés is now in the drop. 23,554 on hand. But at 57", Javi Sánchez ties the score with a great free kick--1-1. At 74, Roberto connects with a gem of a header--2-1, Espanyol back on top. And Espanyol holds on to win.

A few games have been changed from the previous listing.

18 Jan. four games

1400 Girona 1, Sevilla 2 Sevilla is awarded a pk at 2', saved by the goalie. At 36', Arnau gives Girona the lead with a header--1-0. And thus it stands at the half. Girona, at the moment, is in fifth place. At 59', Saul Niguez ties it for Sevilla, as he puts in a rejection--1-1. At 88, Lukébakio gives Sevilla the lead with a solo job--1-2. Big win for Sevilal :!:

1615 Leganés 1, Atleti 0 Scoreless first half. At 49, Nastasic heads in to give Lega the lead--1-0. 12,371 on hand. At 90, Griezmann has a chance to tie with a pk, but he misses wide. Lega holds on to win and probably to have knocked Atleti out of the league lead,

1830 Betis 1, Alavés 3 At 11', Kike Garcia converts a pk to give Alavés the lead--0-1. At 28, Jesús Rodríguez ties it for Betis--1-1. Tablas at halftime. Alavés, at the moment, is top of the drop. 50,021 on hand in the Benito Villamarín. At 55, Perraud of Betis is red carded. At 80, Kike Garía gives Alavés the lead once more. Can they hold it :?: At 84, Kike García completes a hat trick, and it is 1-3. Alavés has climbed, for the moment, above the drop. And 1-3 is the final.

2100 Getafe 1, Barça 1 At 9, Koundé gives Barça the lead--0-1. At 34, Arambarri puts in a rebound to make it 1-1. Tablas at the half. 15,134 on hand. And 1-1 is the final. Definitely not a "fun" game to watch :fingal:

19 Jan. four games

1400 Celta 1, Athletic 2 Can Athletic win in a tough venue :?: Raining hard in Vigo at game time . . . Scoreless first half. Pretty even, with a slight nod to the Brothers Williams, :clapping: 22,279 on hand. At 62, Berenguer gives Athletic the lead--0-1. And the rain pours down . . . At 71, Vivian puts in a rebound, and it is now 0-2. But it ain't over until it's over, and Alvarez gets one back for Celta at 74--1-2. And that is how it ends.

1615 Real Madrid 4, Las Palmas 1 El Real goes top if they beat the Canaries today. At 27 seconds, Silva scores to give the Canaries the early lead--0-1. At 18, it's 1-1, as MBAPPe converts a PK for Real. At 33', Brahim has a tap-in to give Real the lead. And at 36, MBAPPE makes it 3-1. At 42, MBAPPE completes a hat trick--4-1. Oops--3-1, as there was an infraction on that last goal. At the half, 3-1. At 57, it really is 4-1, as Rodrygo scores. Las Palmas reduced to 10 men. When the Battle is lost and won, 4-1 is the final, with many slow disallowed goals . . .

1830 Osasuna 1, Rayo 1 Can Rayo get something here :?: Perhaps. At 19, Camello, on the break, beats Herrera to make it 0-1 for Rayo.
And Rayo still leads at the half. 20,770 on hand. At 60, Raul García scores to tie it--1-1. That is the final. Good result for Rayo :!:

2100 Valencia 1, Real Sociedad 0 Coming up next :!: At 26', Hugo Duro scores for Valencia; the latter will climb out of last place if they can hold on; they would still be in the Drop, however. Second half coming :!: And Valencia wins this game and is ahead of Valladolid but trails Espanyol.

20 Jan. 2100 Villarreal 4, Mallorca 0 Going in, each has 30 points; coming out, either or both will have more. At 20, Logan Costa heads in a corner to give the home team the lead--1-0. At 24, Alex Baena makes it 2-0. At 26, Dani Parejo makes it 3-0. And at 28, Yeremi Pino makes it 4-0. :fingal: :fingal: :fingal: Is this for real :?: Halftime. 14,852 on hand. And the second half produces little of interest :exclamation:

XG Analysis

XPts

What would be the table if all goal chances had been converted?

Barcelona would be quite comfortably on top, Villarreal much in front of Athletic for the CL spots and Valencia not in a position to be relegated!
The most efficient team is the current leader Atletico who can rely on their iron defense (12 goals conceded for 16.9 XGA - which itself is the lowest total).
The least efficient team is Valencia.

Code: Select all

Xpts	Pts	Diff.
39,9	38	-1,9	Barcelona
36,8	44	+7,2	Atletico
36,5	43	+6,5	Real Madrid
35,0	30	-5,0	Villareal
-------------------------------
31,0	36	+5,0	Athletic
31,0	25	-6,0	Betis
30,9	24	-6,9	Celta
---------------------------
28,8	30	+1,2	Mallorca
28,2	28	-0,2	Girona
27,2	28	+0,8	Real Sociedad

20,7	13	-7,7	Valencia

--------------------------------
18,9	19	+0,1	Espanyol
17,1	19	+1,9	Leganes
16,2	22	+5,8	Las Palmas

Offensive efficiency

Barcelona create a lot of goal chances, much more than any other team.
Betis are able to create goal chances (32) but managed to score 21 of them only. It's rare to have such deficit (-11!).
Las Palmas managed to score 24 goals for 20 goal chances, thanks to the great efficiency Sandro Ramirez and this partly explains why they currently are not in the relegation zone as the Xpts table suggests.

Jornada 21 starts  Fri. 24 Jan.

2100 Las Palmas 1 Osasuna 1 Canaries will trail Osasuna by only one point IF they win this game. Scoreless at the half. Cillessen, the Canaries' goalie, looked very good. At 53', Aimar gives Osasuna the lead--0-1. At the moment, Osasuna is in 7th place. At 73', Las Palmas is down to 10 men. Wow :!: At 98, Januzaj ties it for the home team with a pk--1-1. And that is the final--tablas :!:

Sat. 25 Jan.

1400 Mallorca 0, Betis 1 All ready to get underway :!: Mallorca is five points ahead of Betis going into this game. Scoreless first half, with Mallorca looking better. At 73', Mascarell of Mallorca is red-carded. 19,452 reported on hand in Son Moix. At 96', Bakambu wins it for Betis as he heads in the winning goal--0-1 the final.

1615 Atlético 1, Villarreal 1 Game of the week? Certainly game of the day at the very least. At 29', Gerard Moreno converts a pk, beating Oblak--0-1. Halftime. 63,596 on hand. At 58', Lino smashes in the tying goal for Atleti from up close--1-1. And that is how it ends.

1830 Sevilla 1, Espanyol 1 Underway scoreless in Sevilla. My system was down for a while, during which Espanyol scored--0-1. Goal at 15' by Kumbulla. Halftime--Espanyol will probably be above the drop at jornada's end if they can hold onto this result. 33,602 on hand. Badé has a goal disallowed at 52', but he scores one at 61' that counts, so it is 1-1. With this result, Espanyol is back in the drop. And indeed, Espanyol has to settle for the tie.

2100 Valladolid 0, Real Madrid 3 Bottom hosts top--does Valladolid have any chance :?: At 30, MBAPPE breaks the ice--0-1. And that is the score at halftime. At 57´ MBAPPE scores again--0-2. At 91, MBAPPE converts a pk to complete a hat trick--0-3, and that is the final.

Sun. 26 Jan.

1615 Real Soc 0, Getafe 3 Under way :!: First half ends scoreless. 30,004 reported on hand. Still scoreless at the one-hour mark. At 72, Uche gives Getafe the lead, and about two minutes later, Perez makes it 0-2. At 85, Perez ices the win--0-3. And that is the final :!:

1830 Athletic 0, Leganés 0 Under way soon. Scoreless first half in San Mames Barri. And the game ends scoreless :!: Leganés plays tough defense :!:

2100 Barça 7, Valencia 1 Starts at noon where I am. I saw these two play the Cup Final in . . . 1971 :!: That game went overtime--2-2 at full time, with Barça prevailing 4-2 after overtime in the Bernabeu. My bad--4-3 was the final score. At 3', Frenky De Jong puts Barça ahead--1-0. At 8', Ferrán Torres makes it 2-0. At 14, it is 3-0, as Raphinha makes it 3-0. At about 25, Fermìn makes it 4-0 :!: At 45 + 4, Fermín López scores his second of the night, and that's 5-0 at the half. At 59, Hugo Duro cuts the Barça lead to 5-1. At 66, Lewandowski makes it 6-1.At 75, it is 7-1 as Tárrega of Valencia scores an own goal. And 7-1 is the final.

1400 Barça 1, Alavés 0 Can Barça pick up some ground :?: Ugly, physical, and scoreless--that was the first half. Can Barça put it together in the second half? 42,900 on hand. At 61', I think it was Lamine Yamal assisting Lewandowski--1-0 :!: Barça holds on to win--tough, tough game. Barça is now four points back of the lead.

1615 Valencia 2, Celta 1 Can Valencia win this one :!: At 44, Rioja gives Valencia the lead--1-0. Halftime in Mestalla. Best case for Valencia leaves them back of the lowest team not in the drop. ^^^^ Blanquitos fans bitching about referees every time they don't actively favor them (let alone actually wrong them) after spending the rest of the year calling everyone else a crybaby for doing so. A tale as old as football.

At least he didn't come here arguing that telling the ref to "f*ck off" wasn't disrespectful, and unworthy of a red card, as they are doing in the Spanish Florentino-bought media.

23 points  Las Palmas; Valencia (the latter is top of drop on gd)

22 points  Alavés

15 points  Valladolid

This thing of claiming that "fuck off" is not an insult is truly bizarre. I imagine the away end tomorrow will have some creative takes on it.

Yep. You guys in England have no idea. Spanish sports media lies and manipulates even more than the general one. Now it turns out the referee who sent Jude off has some football promotion company and there's a supposed conflict of interest... which conveniently "came to light" just now, notwithstanding that the info has been on his social media profiles (including LinkedIn) all this time.

Florentino Pérez truly is the Capo di tutti capi of football.
