A little news, anecdotal by now, a penalty for Marseille was about to be given by VAR at the same time, but bench players invaded the pitch when they heard Lens scored and the referee whistled the end of the match. If this penalty was scored, Marseille was 2nd with a 5-0 either way (it would be the same goal difference, but Marseille on top by h2h goal difference). But hey, it's fiction now, thanks Lens

(Sorry that they didn't get an ECL spot)
Would have been interesting to see that penalty after a Monaco win while players watching it via stream on their phones on the pitch. :wink1:

How could Bordeaux be relegated? That's a good question. I presume a mix of of poor signings and lack of team spirit.

Their future? not bright at all I fear. They were saved from bankruptcy last season with the new investors (Gerard Lopez and friends) but Gerard Lopez is known for his complex financial arrangements (without putting money) and there is a serious risk that they fall this time, like Strasbourg ten-fifteen years ago. In case of bankruptcy, you lose your professional status and go back to the 5th level.
In brief, Bordeaux who is a monument of the French football is in serious danger.

There are rumors that if Mbappe extended his current deal PSG would have to pay Monaco 35mil and both the president and the player agreed to have him signed as a free agent costing Monaco the money. My opinion on Mbappe drastically changed (ofc it did since i support Real) but this is a new low. What a sellout. I hope its not true.

There was a doubt, after some ambiguous phrase from Nasser al-Khelaïfi but latest news say Monaco will receive the 35M€. See https://www.lequipe.fr/Football/Actuali ... pe/1334927 (in french).

Cheers for the info. After PSG was giving him everything including their asses it feels nice to know they will not screw Monaco.

Well, I wish them luck. They have cool uniforms. Also, I remember watching them in the Champions League at Ramat Gan stadium. I think they were the only team to manager more than one goal against Maccabi Haifa that year

There's a historic match-up for you. How long since Auxerre were in Ligue 1? I remember their championship season. What has their recent history been like?

St. Etienne looks also in jeopardy. St. Etienne and Marseille have one star in their emblem because of 10 titles. PSG probably will get it in May.
Five months later, neither Girondins nor St. Etienne could revert the bad start in the league. Two big names to Ligue 2 at the worst timing as Ligue 2 will promote only two teams in 2022/23 season. Ligue 1 plan to reduce to 18-teams from 2023/2024 onwards. But who knows, Bremen and Schalke returned from hell after only one season. We will see.

Auxerre hava had a long stay (I would stay from the early 80s to the end 00s, i.e. roughly 30 years) under the management of the legendary Guy Roux.
Auxerre is a small city (50,000 roughly maybe less), so it's a big achievement. They have had difficult seasons after Guy Roux retired but managed not to go down to National (level 3), otherwise it would have been the end I think.
Nice to see them back in Ligue 1 ten years after!

Otherwise, as far as St Etienne are concerned there are mixed feelings among OL fans. On one hand, there is always a little pleasure to see your rival plunging into chaos but the derby will be missed for sure.

With St Etienne and Bordeaux down to Ligue 2, it's 2 monuments of the French domestic football down.

just for precision, Marseille only have 9 titles. The title of 1993 has not been recognized as a title (you know the corruption affair).
