Are Puerto Rico going to become the new Dominican Republic, come in at the last 16 and qualify for the World Cup?

The top 16 teams in the U17 rankings qualify for the final tournament directly. They play in the group stage (4 groups of 4), the top 3 teams in each group (total 12 teams) advance to the round of 16.Jackson Harrison wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 15:17Why did they get a bye! I really don't understand this format? Maybe you could explain it for the unenitiated?
The teams ranked 17 or below in the U17 rankings have to play in qualifying. There are 4 groups, and only the group winners qualify (total 4 teams). They do not have to play in the group stage, and instead start directly from the round of 16.
You can kind of consider them as “League A” and “League B”. So 12 teams from “League A” and 4 teams from “League B” qualify for the round of 16.
If you still have trouble understanding, don’t worry, because this will be the last tournament to use this format. After this tournament, CONCACAF youth tournaments will use a different format which is more traditional and easier to understand.
Men: Total 12 teams in final tournament (3 groups of 4), 8 teams advance to knockout stage. Top 6 in rankings qualify for final tournament directly, others play qualifiers, with 6 group winners qualifying.
Women: Total 8 teams in final tournament (2 groups of 4), 4 teams advance to knockout stage. Top 2 in rankings qualify for final tournament directly, others play qualifiers, with 6 group winners qualifying.

Phew! Guess they have to make it annual now with annual Youth competitions starting in 2024. From what Infantino was saying the other day looks like U20 will be annual as well!amenina wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 15:33The top 16 teams in the U17 rankings qualify for the final tournament directly. In some ways the current format is like Futsal CL Main Round of 32 with 2 'Paths', A with top 16 and B with lowest 16 with top 3 in path A and winners of path B qualifying to Elite round of 16.
Quarterfinal winners qualify for U17 World Cup
Mexico and USA qualified for U17 World Cup.
