Panama are back in the lead, 2:1 and maybe 10 minutes left.

3:1 Panama, US are out!
Panama score another in stoppage time to make it 3-1. So it is up to USA to score 2 goals in the final minutes of their match, whose 2nd half kicked off a bit later.

30 years ago the WC was in the US. I've told my son in 20-30 years they'll be top team, possibly champions. They haven't progressed at all, maybe backwards. I was wrong!
Group C matchday 3 results, 1 July
Uruguay, which won the group with 3 wins out of 3, and Panama, who finished as runners-up to reach the knockout stage for the first time, advance to the quarter-finals.
The hosts USA, together with Bolivia, are eliminated.

Embarrassing for us. Hard to believe we won't fire Berhalter.
You can't judge on one tournament in which they played decisive match 75 minutes with 10 men. They've progressed a lot, many US guys play in top European clubs. Unlike Hungary... that country has gone backwards and not only in football unfortunatelybugylibicska wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 04:54 30 years ago the WC was in the US. Weah is the culprit, at this level to play with 10 men all match is hard. And then you had to win against Bielsa's Uruguay, one of the best teams in the world at the moment...dopeisland wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 07:16 Embarrassing for us. Hard to believe we won't fire Berhalter.
Interesting wrinkle is Emma Hayes and her equal pay contract. If you hire a big money manager, you're gonna have to pay her the same. But still, surely you can do better than Berhalter for a $1.6M salary.dopeisland wrote: ↑Tue Jul 02, 2024 07:16 Embarrassing for us. Hard to believe we won't fire Berhalter.
My prediction is the blame will fall on the guy who decided to smack someone in the back of the head with VAR in effect and he'll keep his job.
Moved to QF:
6/10 from Conmebol. 60% efficiency
2/6 from Concacaf. 33.3% efficiency
Surpisingly the two Concacaf giants were send home.

USA and Mexico in Pot 1 will create groups of life (Canada's too but we knew that) in the World Cup given the state of their NTs.
For Panama this must be one of the most prestigious results ever, second only to the World Cup qualification in 2018.
I recently read that Bolivia plan to host home games at a even higher altitude. Maybe it would be better to focus on how improving the national team performances without "cheating". I mean, if by miracle they end 7th in SA qualifers what they are going to do: lose the intercontinental Play-off against Tanzania or Guatemala far from home?
Or if by a bigger miracle they qualify to the World Cup due to home advantage what are they going to do there: lose every game 4 or 5-0?
Bolivian clubs seems to be decent for SA standards (The Strongest and Bolivar are in the Libertadores round of 16) but the national team is clearly the worst one in SA.

Next USA head coach: Are Klopp, Guardiola realistic candidates for USMNT if Berhalter is fired after Copa America failure?

Final day of Group D fixtures
For Costa Rica to advance instead of Brazil, they need to win, Brazil need to lose, and they must overcome a 6-goal deficit in terms of goal difference.
Colombia will win the group if they win or draw. Otherwise, Brazil will win the group.
