Senegal are the first country to hold the AFCON and CHAN titles simultaneously.

In both tournaments, Senegal won their first title after a goalless draw and winning on penalties.

Algeria reached the final for the first time but failed to emulate Morocco in 2018 by winning the title at home.

Madagascar defeated Niger to finish third, with both teams reaching the semi-finals for the first time.

And Alioune Badara Faty was the only player that was in both Senegal’s AFCON and CHAN squads.

But he was the reserve goalkeeper in both tournaments, and played zero matches overall. He had yet to earn a cap in senior international level.

Also Senegal was the only team in the 2022 World Cup that had no domestic players. And their squad of domestic players went on to win CHAN. The other two teams that played both World Cup and CHAN, Cameroon and Ghana, both had players that were in both squads.

And the two Senegal title-winning coaches, Aliou Cisse (AFCON) and Pape Thiaw (CHAN), were both in the 2002 World Cup squad which saw the team reach the quarter-finals.

No, in the 2022 World Cup, Senegal brought 3 goalkeepers in a 26-player squad: Edouard Mendy, Seny Dieng, and Alfred Gomis.

In the 2021 AFCON, Senegal brought 4 goalkeepers in a 28-player squad: the 3 above and Alioune Badara Faty who was effectively the 4th GK.

Covid.

There was a match where Comoros had to use an outfield player as the goalkeeper because all their GKs tested positive.

CAF Disciplinary Board Outcome on CHAN matters involving Algeria Football Federation and Royal Moroccan Federation

https://www.cafonline.com/press-release ... all-federa

The CAF Disciplinary Board met to deliberate on the matter referred to it by the Organising Committee of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship Algeria 2022 (“CHAN”) following the no-show of the Moroccan team in Algeria for their scheduled group matches and the statement made at the opening ceremony of the CHAN.

Royal Moroccan Federation

Following deliberations and examination of evidence including a number of correspondences between Algeria, Morocco and CAF, the Disciplinary Committee concluded that Royal Moroccan Federation was unable to travel and participate in the CHAN due to circumstances totally beyond their control, and as such no sanction of whatsoever nature is imposed on the Royal Moroccan Federation.

In view of the aforementioned finding, the Disciplinary Board dismissed the Algerian Football Federation’s claim for damages.

Algeria Football Federation

In the aftermath of the statement made at the opening ceremony of the CHAN on 13 January 2023, CAF had referred the matter to the Disciplinary Board for further investigation.

After having extensively examined all the elements and evidence available, the Disciplinary Board considered that it should not find vicarious liability on Algeria Football Federation, and that the provisions of strict liability could not have been foreseen and should not apply arising out of the statement made by Mr. Zwelivelile Mandela during the opening ceremony of CHAN.

However, the Disciplinary Board issued a formal reminder to all National Associations inclusive of FAF, to be aware that the provisions of vicarious liability and strict liability may in future be applied as a result of any political or other statements issued at a formal CAF competition or event which may be made by a third party.

What a load of trollop if this was any other country they'd be banned for next 2 editions, same should go for Morocco. Shows that CAF are too far up Mr Lekjaa's deriere.

As for Mandela's grandson that wa sunneccessary as football should not be politisised, my views on Palestine aren't for a CHAN thread though!

So will Morocco play in U17 AFCON?

Looks like Morocco is ready to boycott U17 AFCON if Algeria is not punished by CAF for what happened in CHAN and/or the Morocco team is not allowed to fly direct to the country.

Interestingly, Wydad Casablanca from Morocco just played a CAF Champions League away match against JS Kabylie in Algeria last month, and they flew by transit through Tunisia.
