Italy playing some great stuff, what a response, 2-1! Reminds me of the football they were playing at the last Euro, you wouldn't know anything had changed if you'd woke up from a 4 year coma.

Italy reacted quickly and forcefully to the initial shock and are already leading 2-1.

Impressed how quickly they're looking like a Spalletti side here.

Fun match.

Btw for goals

2016 - 9 goals in first 4 matches
2021 - 9 goals in first 4 matches
2024 - 16 goals in first 4 matches (so far)

Italy is playing well, Spaletti has already transformed the playstyle.

Apart from Scamacca - the CF position seems cursed for Italy.

Total control, Albania barely getting to touch the ball.

They just dropped a stat that the most goals in the first 4 games is 1976, 19 of them. They were the first and the last four games, and having a look, all four of them went to extra time, so they had 5 and a third games worth of time, and 5 goals went in in extra time.

Yeah 1976 was a classic final four tournament. The Czechs beat the Germans on penalties (via the Panenka from Mr Panenka) to win the Euros, and Cruyff's Dutch met the Czechs in a famously bad tempered semifinal. In the other semifinal Germany were dead and buried only to make a huge comeback. Sky showed footage of it in 2002 when I was getting into football and its one of the only Euros from before I was a fan that really grabbed my attention, even in archive footage.

Italy keeper with a big save, celebrates making the save, and somehow Italy get a goal kick.

I was actually quite impressed with the Italy performance, yes they were in no hurry, and maybe they could have been a bit more aggressive in getting people forward, but they were moving the ball around with a good speed of passing and very high accuracy. There was purpose, not just sitting on it. Cool heads after a diaster start and starved Albania of the ball. Professional job.

Albania are not a punching bag anymore, but Italy better than expected. Predicted 1:0, no surprise.

Jorginho was terrible though, mistook every forward pass. Frattesi little better.
