Winner of the match is as expected, but I enjoyed watching Polish team. Ok, maybe not a defensive play, but biting from time to time could end up with the 2nd goal for Poland when there was a 1-1 draw on the scoreboard. I remember really tragic opening matches by Poland like vs South Korea in 2002 or vs Ecuador in 2006.

Congratulations Netherlands! :clapping:

This was the most offensive match of the tournament so far, with a total of 31 shots (20 for Netherlands and 11 for Poland) and 11 shots on goal (4 for Netherlands and 7 for Poland).

This discredits the theory that Poland doesn't produce enough goal scoring opportunities. The xG was 1.3 for both teams. The difference between both teams is that unfortunately for Poland it was "just" Buksa as striker. Lewandowski would have surely scored a hat-trick here. :grin1:

Bonjour à tous!
Voici un court épisode sur le match Autriche 🇦🇹 B+ contre France 🇫🇷 A+. Pour une meilleure compréhension nous continuons en anglais.

Once upon a time there was a football match that started so excitingly that even the birds in the stadium stopped and watched. Austria versus France - a classic! The Austrian fans had brought a giant Sachertorte for good luck while the French supporters had built an Eiffel Tower out of baguettes.
The match began and Austria surprised everyone with a new tactic: they didn't play the ball with their feet, but balanced it on their noses! The French countered with one elegant pirouette after another resulting in a ballet on the grass.
At halftime there was an unexpected twist: Austria's mascot a giant Mozartkugel and the French rooster mascot decided to have a dance duel in the middle of the pitch. The crowd cheered and even the referee couldn't help but smile.
As the game continued Austria scored goal after goal but every time the ball went into the net a kangaroo (no one knew where it came from) jumped out and kicked the ball back into play. The French took advantage of this confusion and scored with a spectacular diving header by their smallest player.
In the end it was a draw but nobody cared. Everyone was too busy laughing and celebrating the crazy events. And so the game ended not only with a score but also with a new friendship between the Austrian and French fans

No comments, I guess you guys are as unenthused by this match as I am. Commentator thinks Mbappe has a broken nose.

Have the Austrians managed to win even a single physical duel? Every time I look, the French easily push them away from the ball.

Austria have an amazing pace.

The match is still open despite the pass quality of Austria is poor.

It's not just aerial, you see an Austrian running into space with the ball ahead and a French easily catching up and shouldering him out of posession. Many times.

I was looking at the teams and there's a definite significant size difference in favour of the French.

Deserved win for France, Mbappe wasted an incredible chance and there were 1-2 other big chances to finish the game. Austria should have converted this one chance in the 1st half. In the 2nd half they fought but couldn't create much.

Mbappe with mask now?

France's wastefulness kept Austria alive until the end, though the goal itself was a gift from Austria.

Off-topic: yesterday Cairese won promotion to serie D (the first non-professional division), after 33 years. The small town of the team, Cairo Montenotte, is famous because it was the site of a battle between French and Austrians in 1796 during the Italian campaign of Napoleon. The French won also in that case.

I wonder how many fouls the Austrian team has committed.

Anyway this doesn't explain why France have wasted so much but hopefully we haven't been punished.

Comfortable win for France! Olivier Giroud gets closer to Lilian Thuram in second position of most apps ever for France.
