Historical win for Romania, only second win at Euro tournaments in 4 presences (84,96,2000 and 2016).
The first one was vs England in 2000 a memorable 3 2!

But honestly I would put more this win on Ukraine very poor performance and very not motivated game.
I was really expecting something else from Ukraine. They look not motivated, probably because the war?

We, Romania, played our normal level, it wasn't need a special level against this Ukraine today.

Of course special mention for Stanciu goal, very nice shot and maybe without that goal everything would have been changed because in the start of the game Romania looked timorated.
Too bad Stanciu shot from direct corner didn't entered and was just crossbar , it would be a very special goal.

Also a mention for the public, i think it was the hottest supporters until now? :)

Netherlands had perhaps the best two friendlies and they draw with Poland, Romania had perhaps the worst, home 0-0s vs Bulgaria and Liechtenstein. And they win here 3-0. I had to miss the second half, but with it being a BBC game, I can go back and look at the goals on the Iplayer now.
Netherlands beat Poland though.
Oh my, what the hell. Why did I think they drew?!
Because it felt like a draw!

Scenes! "The worst team" turned out to be more than the club names on the roster sheet. Clinical efficiency, fueled by outstanding support from the stands. Long may it continue!

Ukraine were hugely motivated precisely because of the war. But they looked like they couldn't handle the pressure and failed at taking the shot. That was pretty much the film.

Three really nice goals for Romania here. Romania were one of the better teams defensively in qualifying, only conceding 5 goals. This was bettered by France, England, Croatia, Albania, Portugal and Belgium and equalled by Spain.

You'd think they'd be motivated to win if anything because of it. Ukraine just won the Toulon Tournament. I wondered before the game if Ukraine might have watched that team and watched them lift the trophy and thought we'd like a bit of that.

I think the first goal just rocked them. They lost confidence in their gameplan and Romania got a big lift, Romania really needed it after the 0-0s with Bulgaria and Liechtenstein, that was huge for them.

Heh. I suppose it did. :grin1:

But I watched it happen and posted about it.

Somehow the memory eluded me...

Congrats to Romania, time to celebrate for the fans.

I think however that Slovakia will verify how good Romania is. Ukraine looked very poor, not like a team, with no team spirit and some group of random players who formed a team yesterday.

I also think Ukraine should be rather more motivated, because of the war. So, it's very disappointing seeing this very poor performance. If they're really not motivated to play for their country, maybe they should try fighting on the front. It looked like half the stadium was filled by supporters of Romania! Big Romanian party tonight in Munich!

It looks like the softest group, what with the top dog being Belgium, which in the last WC looked fairly lacklustre. Yet this Romanian result must have Slovakia worried almost as much as Ukraine.

Congrats! I think Romania played a nice tactical game and I was in particular impressed with Rațiu, Mudrik had a hard time against him, very quick guy. As for Ukraine, hopefully Trubin will start in the next match instead of this Madrid flop. They still have a chance to qualify but now Slovakia match is a must win

More like: "The group of life? Might as well prove them right and get us a good R16 spot!"
