Tarling started out strong, but now a bike shift :(

We didn't see the crash, but Magnus Sheffield's risk taking riding seems to have caused him to crash today as well, as his right back side was torn up. Had a quite good first time check, but won't be near medals now.
Van Aert with the best time check on his double disc wheel bike, but the seven last riders are yet to pass

What do you think about France vs Denmark today in handball? I am not that keen on handball but this one will try to watch, clearly the best two teams of the last 10 years. Also I 've read that it will be the last tournament for Mikkel Hansen who is regarded by many as the best player in history.

Remco fastest at the first time check, 7 seconds ahead of Ganna, 10s ahead of van Aert, 11 ahead of Plapp, 13 ahead of Tarling.
The Brit probably lost at least 15 seconds, if not 20 on the bike shift.

The 1st European gold will probably be Belgian.

Plapp crashed hard and seems to have left the race. Haven't seen that footage at all, I think.
He started out very hard, and was in play for medals.
Now it looks like 4 fighting for three medals. McNulty outside chance.

Outstanding ride by van Aert with the experimental double disc wheel. 1 minute ahead of Bisegger.
Is it enough for a medal?

Both Tarling and Ganna slightly behind van Aert at the second to last time check. Smells like double Belgian at the top

The Danish Broadcaster DR has completely lost its marbles in these time trials. Cutting away from the exciting final to show a full screen interview with Skjelmose, who finished far from anything. Completely mental. They did the same in half screen during the women's race. :? :?

Tarling really fast home, but still two second after van Aert.

Remco wins. Gold for Belgium. World Champion and now Olympic Champion in ITT.
Ganna flew home, and gets silver for Italy. Van Aert gets the bronze medal.

Tarling just outside. Had a bike change during the course. Probably silver without that.

Real pity about Tarling. But only 20 years old, hopefully he'll be back. 4th with a puncture is excellent.

Will definitively watch. Both teams know each other so well from so many finals and decisive games. So I think they will go basically all-in. I don't think they have that many aces to hide up their sleeves for a later game. Maybe a bit more rotation during the game than otherwise, but that could be a priority anyway during the Olympics with smaller squads than usual.

But yes as you say, the two by far best teams of the last 15 years. And perhaps the two best players ever will retire after this tournament. Mikkel Hansen for Denmark and Nikola Karabatic for France. Both of them a bit from their best, but will still be able to contribute. Karabatic the more well-rounded player with strong defensive qualities, a good shot from range, good playmaking abilities and can/could drive easily past players. Hansen probably the best offensive player ever. At his best, an outstanding shot from far out as well as spraying magnificent passes around the court. Now it's mostly the latter quality he uses to set up Pytlick and Gidsel on the two backs, who are both extremely fast and dynamic players.

Denmark should be better in goal with Nielsen and Landin being the best goalkeeping duo in the world. The latter also stopping in the NT after the Olympics and a long, great career there. France probably a bit better in the defensive block. And then both teams usually have extreme offensive firepower.

South African wins Bronze medal in rugby beating Australia. Australia played the last 4 minutes with only 6 guys but managed to make a huge recovery and tie the match with 1 minute to go, but South Africa, an underdog in Sevens, was better.
