He wasn't in form all season, it was expected that Benjamin would win...

To no-one's surprise the Dutch women win hockey gold. This was the least dominant Dutch team in a long time.

China scored an early goal and from then on defended and wasted as much time as possible to see if they could make it to the end. They came close, but couldn't. In the penalty shootouts the difference in technical ability between the players from both teams was glaring.

Denmark just holds on to beat Slovenia 31-30 in the semi.
For the second match in a row, the otherwise cool Mikkel Hansen misses a penalty within the last minute, which could have put Denmark up two. Instead Slovenia had the chance at the end, but couldn't get the equalizer.

An immediate post match interview with Danish coach Nikolaj Jacobsen, who was absolutely furious at his team's performance. A bit fun perhaps right after reaching an Olympic final. But the performance in the second half was really poor. With all respect to a good Slovenian performance, it should have never been that close. Denmark again lost the goalkeeping battle to a team, where the Danish keepers on paper should be superior. The defense lost its discipline and coherence, and made to many individual mistakes. The offense was still quite good, but a bit too many misses. Simon Pytlick is still on an outstanding level, while it seems like Mathias Gidsel is a bit tired. However, he still managed to make some important actions in the final minutes. He is just not on the world-best level as in the group stage. And the whole Danish side has dropped a level from the amazing group stage. They have had to fight their way through these last two matches.

Denmark will still be clear favourites (1.18 in betting now) in the final against Germany, but the level of play in the second half today has made me a bit more nervous than I would have been after the group stage.

Tomorrow the two medal matches in Women's handball. Very evenly matched according to the odds. Denmark 1.85 vs. Sweden 1.90 in the bronze match, and France 1.85 vs. Norway 1.90 in the final.

Referees made sure of that.

The treatment France has in team sports in these Olympics is disgusting. This was not happening in the past Olympics with hosts, nowhere near this extent.

It was a super successful day with 7 medals (3x gold) plus the win in the handball semi-final. I hope we can win at least one final (of handball & beachvolleyball), in both cases the others are favorites. But I was surprised how close Denmark won their SF against Slovenia and in the QF against Sweden, both by just one goal difference, so maybe this superteam is not in their best form this time. Glad that our team has a medal, saw them live 4 months ago in the Olympics qualification here in my city, really good guys.

btw: mavano, maybe i wasn't that wrong, Holland again gold after another hockey shootout :grin1:
