Re: Nations League

A huge increase to Nations League prize money: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45815169 €10.5M for the winners instead of 7.5 is nice. Yet Infantino offered a much bigger increase, up to $75M. France only took home half of that amount for winning the World Cup. UEFA's increase (https://www.uef...

Good read: FIFA and UEFA Headed to Showdown Over Plan for New Tournaments - https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/22/sports/fifa-club-world-cup-uefa.html "Infantino and Ceferin have rarely spoken since the contentious meeting in March, which longtime council members described as the most acrimonious ...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

The result of the German team annoys me. They didn't get 1 or 3 points for the Nations League ranking and the likelihood of Germany going down to group B is high. On the other hand they also didn't lose high, which would have had the positive effect of getting rid of Löw faster. Instead of it he we...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Just looked at the UEFA 2020 qual draw page at WIki, and were reminded of all the aspects, that will affect the draw. Not only the political seperation, but also seperation due to winter venues, excessive travel and teams hosting Euro 2020. A complex algorithm :) That reminds me: Kazakhstan: with A...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

not sure why Poland would be uninterested..... They can still be a pot 1 team if they score more points than at least 2 other relegated teams.... Portugal and Italy are sure to be pot 1 teams. Belgium and France are too.... Switzerland are guaranteed a top seed as well. For France, a draw today wou...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Full-time Italy win 0-1, that means Poland is the first team to be mathematically relegated. Portugal can either draw against Italy or beat uninterested Poland at home to ensure qualification to the final tournament. Italy would do well to win their home game against Portugal by more than 1 goal. D...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

So the NL final event will most likely take place in Portugal.
That already will be the case if Poland v Italy ends in a draw tomorrow. If not, Portugal still have two NL games in November to top the group.

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

We have two home games coming up and we need 4 points there to be safe. With this horrendous goal difference, 3 points might not be enough to avoid Pot 2. Spain will have secured the first place if they beat England, so they might come to Zagreb in Matchday 5 not caring too much. That would be most...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

I'll look at it again when the highlights come out. Opinion of Andújar Oliver, ex-ref on marca.com: "Welbeck fouled Busquets, which annulled the subsequent play. De Gea was not fouled," but the play was already dead. I didn't see this foul on Busquets. I'll be looking for it as I was real...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

So far the Nations League has delivered on UEFA's promise: more of a competitive edge to the games, opponents are on a reasonably equal footing, minnows scoring goals and getting results, the football is better than you've come to expect from friendlies, ... Seeing it's the first international break...

Infantino failed to push his plans for the global NL through Source? http://global.espn.com/football/blog/fifa/243/post/3501010/fifa-vs-uefa-tensions-escalate-over-club-world-cup-and-global-nations-league Those plans he failed to push through. https://twitter.com/richard_conway/status/9979686270128...

Re: Nations League

In case of World Cup and World Cup qualifiers - I'm not sure if there is an official document, but WC qualifiers seeding should also be based on UEFA Nations League. World Cup main tournament draw will probably be in accordance to FIFA ranking. Do you expect the qualification format to be disclosed...

Re: Nations League

So they say that the four playoff teams will be identified as playoff winners 1-4 in the draw, and they will all be in the lowest seeding pot (since the seeding is based on the Qualifiers). It also seems to ensure that hosts in playoffs are drawn into the right groups, so this means hosts should be...
