Re: Euro 2020

You say this but you also consider Germany to be one of the two toughest pot 2 teams (if not the toughest) Yes, of course I consider Germany one of the strongest pot #2 teams. There is also something called 'context'. Many pot #2 teams did not fail at world cup like Germany did - mainly because a m...

Re: Euro 2020

For Pot 1 and Pot 2 teams it's all about avoiding potential mines from Pot 3 and Pot 4. ... Agreed. Although rather quite obvious, I think that the pot #3 to #5 teams added per group will determine how competitive (aka hard) a group will be ... with the extra remark that Germany and Sweden from pot...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Now you probably try to scream again how idiotic we are only because we don't bow down to Switzerland after making it to the final four of the glorious Nations League. :D As far as I remember I did never use any insults at all - that much for the question who actually seems to go way overboard when...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Just look at the countries in pot 3 and lower. Nearly all of them have a much smaller population than Germany. A lot of them are poorer and have a far worse football infrastructure. ... And by the way Germany can't get together with Sweden in a group. Sweden is a pot 2 team. Right, spot on with Swe...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Germany has changed pretty much in recent decades. Don't expect our youth to show the same spirits like we older ones have. When in my days, we failed a test at school, it was our fault, not trying hard enough to learn for the test, our parents told us. When today kids at school fail a test, it is ...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Did you watch* the 4 games in the NL? Tell me which of the 8 halfs were really bad. Their problem was absolutely obvious during the 2-2 or the earlier 1-2 defeat. Whenever the classy opponent really played (especially France), few minutes ended in disaster (or let's call it 2 goals for the opponent...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

You can't win them all, there is a dry-spell every now and then, even if you're Germany. Germany was always famous for the 'we never give up' mentality (and yes, not only in sports). THAT is what made them always special, many others did not have the guts to still run to the end, even if it looked ...

Re: Nations League

They could use this one: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_Euro_2020_qualifying#Overall_ranking It would be the most recent ranking. If UEFA will no longer use the National Ranking than the one that includes the ECQs would come closest to UEFA's 2019 ranking. A ranking based on the 'previous UNL' ...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

To qualify Germany doesn't even have to beat the pot 1 team and if they can't stay in front of the lower pots teams, then they are simply so bad that they don't deserve to go to the Euro. I hope Germany will improve. It can hardly get more horrible than the whole year of 2018. That was a historical...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Imo, the Nations League has been a huge success. There must have been two different Nations Leagues. In Germany, hardly anyone took notice. The sport-news (what in Germany usually means 90% football) are full of articles about the Germany vs Holland game. What the germans sure try to do on the othe...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

I haven't bothered watching the Germany game as it was completely meaningless for Germany. Seeing the end result and reading how they managed to throw away a win in the last few minutes, I am even more glad with my decision to watch something more entertaining. It's not meaningless. You're in pot 2...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

So Germany, which hasn't really recovered to the stage they played at little time ago (pre-2018), shows a 'fighting-spirit' display against the Netherlands. This and an already qualified Portugal, playing at home, but facing a Poland which could save #1 pot spot for qualifiers for them, while going ...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

I was very aware of the possibility of a scrappy Swiss win like 1-0, but 5-2? Wow. How bad did Belgium play? Was it a case of Switzerland converting all their chances? I remember people complaining about Seferovic's target man status being a hindrance in the WC; today he makes 3. Complete off-day. ...

Re: UEFA Nations League 2018/19

Does this increase England's chance of winning the tournament? Of course, if they did, they would receive less credit for it. I do not expect that Switzerland is the 'highest mountain to climb' at the final tournament - but there atleast England would be biggest favorite, France/Netherlands and Por...
