I’m hoping for Alcaraz and Iga to win it..
Swiotek is out by Svitolina. A Ukrainian win would sweeten the tournament perhaps?

Alcaraz has a tough obstacle vs Rune.
Maybe Iga lost on purpose? She plays for 1.5 year with the ukrainien flag on her cap. She might hope Svitolina can win it….
It was already Iga's best Wimbledon result. She always had some troubles in grass. Also now it really increases Sabalenka's chances of winning it.

It was a weird situation. She lost to the Ukrainian while wearing a Ukrainian flag on her cap on the anniversary of Volhyna, where many Poles were murdered in Ukraine.

Even in the tennis thread we have the same "Russians/Serbians/Belarussians = Evil" nonsense. Jesus f*cking Christ.

And the one insufferable biatch in the tournament is Svitolina. And no, Iga didn't lose to her on purpose, though some people here would do so in her shoes, I guess.

Blasphemy aside I agree with mspm. Svitolina's attitude isn't nice, and the idea of her not shaking hands of players from certain countries is absurd. Unless they openly say they support what Putin is doing in Ukraine, which as far as I know, they are not doing, why would she do that?

It was also absurd that Wimbledon fans booed Azarenka for not shaking her hand. They should have booed Svitolina.

Sorry for that. I just didn't know a more emphatical way to express my disbelief for what I was reading.

And thank you, Vondrousova! For knocking out the insufferable biatch and sparing us of all the sanctimonious praise to the "bravery" of Svitolina.

I didn't see this myself, but from what I read, Azarenka knew she wasn't going to get a handshake, so didn't try to get one, which made the crowd think she was the one who didn't want it.

So you see how absurd the posh wankas in the Wimbledon audience were by booing Azarenka, I suppose.

It shows that those Tennis fans don't follow the sport closely then, because Svitolina made it clear she would not be shaking hands with players from certain nations. Of course Azarenka didn't bother to wait for a handshake knowing she wouldn't get one. She said she respected Svitolina's decision. If she had put her hand out for a handshake and been ignored it would have made Svitolina look bad for ignoring it, but she didn't try to 'one up' her.

Yes, but why would you know? I'm interested to watch tennis, not understand the interpersonal relationships between random players. Especially non-British ones.

Might as well offer my opinion on the whole thing, I wouldn't boo if I was there about refusing the handshake, you should be allowed to choose not to or the handshake doesn't mean anything if they make you do it. But I do think the handshake should happen. These people are holding racquets not rifles. They can't do anything about Putin or this war, they're not in the war, they're not in Russia or Ukraine.

If they didn't know then they shouldn't assume that the Belurusian was the 'baddy'' in this scenario and boo her. I don't care much about Tennis and even I know about Svitolina declaring she wouldn't be shaking hands.

They're just reacting to what they saw though. Things aren't always what they seem, but they usually are. Normally misunderstandings like this occur between two people and then the wrong one will apologise and things will be okay again.
