2005/06 UEFA Cup First Round: Vitória Guimarães beats then three-time champions Wisla Krakow by 3-0 + 1-0, with Marek Saganowski scoring the goal in Poland. When we look at today's Vitória european results, that seems completely awkward.
At the same time Wisła Kraków plays now in the 2nd polish division and will most probably stay there for longer..
Curiously, on that same season (2005/06), Vitória was also relegated for the first time in decades. However, they returned the following year.

I only hope they will get to play home game (vs Braga in Q3) on their stadium. It is a new venue, opened 2 years ago. Only problem is that it does not meet the UEFA capacity requirement of 8.000 for this stage of competition. They are waiting for the green light from UEFA.
Is 8.000 the requirement? Rakow's ground has a capacity of 5.500 and they are using it for their home game in Q3.

I've heard so but if someone can confirm it, I would be thankful.

UEFA already approved TSC of playing return-leg against Braga on their stadium, and couple of days ago they did the same for Europa League group stage home games. :applause:

Hopefully this mean they will allow Klaksvik to play in Torshavn in Groups, since there is no bigger stadium in the country and they would have to move to Denmark if UEFA doesn't make an eχception for them!

The Faroe national team also plays there, so why would it be a problem for a club to play there?

The capacity is 6.500, so technically below the UEFA threshold. They need a special license too.

I see that they only include the "big 5" leagues here so that nobody else matters, even when they are big clubs. Also, I believe an initial 7 must be missing from the figure for Lazio in order for it to make sense. (Not your fault - it is missing on the link).

I remember that European season by Wisła very well. That season Wisła played Panathinaikos in the 3rd CL Qualifying Round (last one back then). Wisła won 3-1 in Kraków and traveled to Athens with high hopes to qualify for the Champions League Group Stage for the first time. First half ended with a goalless draw. Then Panathinaikos scored 2 goals (1 of them was scored by Olisadebe), but Wisła responded with a beautiful strike by Radosław Sobolewski making hopes of the Polish fans alive again. Sadly, for us, Panathinaikos scored at 87' minute shortly after very doubtful decision by the referee to disallow the equalising goal by Penksa for Wisła.

After that CL tie, morale among Wisła players were very low, what was fully understandable. As you wrote, after that Wisła was eliminated by Vitória Guimarães after losing both matches.

I wonder if football fans in Greece also remember that Wisłą - Panathinaikos tie. In Poland it is a very memorable one.

I don't think any club from any country outside the top 5 can compete here. Yes, Lazio probably start with 71......So, England has 13 clubs in the top 28, Italy 6, Spain 4, Germany 3 and France 2.

Or the top 30 clubs in wages are all from the big 5 leagues?
This sounds very probable to me.

These are millionaires, Superliga clubs. From next season, most of these clubs will share billions of euros from UEFA.
Clubs from other leagues will receive crumbs under the table. :mol:
