2023 Asian Cup - Qatar
Fixtures, 25 January
HT: Korea Republic 1-0 Malaysia, Jordan 0-1 Bahrain
Jeong Woo-yeong headed in a corner, as the ball crossed the line before it was crawled out by the goalkeeper. In the other match, Yusuf gave Bahrain the lead from a counter-attack. So as of now, the Koreans will finish first, Bahrain second, Jordan third.

Malaysia have made it 1-1. So as of now, Bahrain first, Korea Republic second, Jordan third.
Malaysia leading 2:1
Japan is glad with this situation I guess, now they will play Bahrain in round of 16

Are you watching the game, amenina? Are they "choosing their opponent?" Because Korea really should be brushing Malaysia aside with ease I would have thought...amenina wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 14:50The group runners-up will play the winners of Group F, which will probably be Saudi Arabia (but who knows after the upsets of the last two days). And also they will be in the top half of the draw, which is likely to be easier, with the other teams likely being Australia, Iraq, UAE, and whoever finish second in Group A (China PR/Tajikistan/Lebanon). While the team which will win this group will be in the bottom half, with Qatar, IR Iran, Japan, Uzbekistan, etc., which will be likely the more difficult half.Firnen wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 14:28 Another upset, Jordan gets a point (and almost beat) Korea!
It might be a blessing in disguise for Korea to lose 1st place, if they are 2nd they will face Saudi Arabia and not Japan in the Round of 16.
Edit: +11 added time, so maybe the result will change...these AFC matches have so much added time.
Nope, 2-2, and now Korea will have a chance to choose their opponent. Interesting situation!
I watched the first half of Jordan vs Bahrain, and now I am watching the second half of Korea Republic vs Malaysia. I saw no evidence that anybody is deliberating playing poorly, but of course there were mistakes.Lorric wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 14:10Are you watching the game, amenina? Korea Republic just made it 2-2, and are still attacking, so it would appear that they don’t care if they play Japan. If they finish second, they likely play Saudi Arabia. If they finish third, they play Qatar or Iraq. Honestly very little to choose.
Son makes it 3-2 from the spot. Koreans back to first, Bahrain second, Jordan third.
In 2019 Japan played Saudi Arabia in round of 16, now they will face South Korea.
Good on you, Korea. No corruption, no fear.
90+15: 3-3
Arrrgh, I thought the game would be over by now this long after kickoff!

This screams of a fix. I'm sorry but Korea should be putting Malaysia to bed!
They want to avoid Japan. It's pretty obvious what's happening here. They'd rather play Saudi than Japan.
