Inter Miami vault into Top 10 of Concacaf Club Rankings

https://www.concacaf.com/champions-cup/ ... -rankings/

MIAMI, Florida – The latest edition of the Concacaf Club Rankings (CCR) is out, with 2022 FIFA World Cup winner Lionel Messi and Inter Miami vaulting into the Top 10 after their big 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16 victory against Nashville SC

The Confederation launched a revamped rankings system earlier this year, with clubs gaining points for results in official domestic league matches, regional cup matches and Concacaf Champions Cup play.

Further detail explaining the rankings and how clubs earn points can be found here: Concacaf launches new ranking system for region’s clubs and leagues.

Inter Miami vault into Top 10

One of the biggest movers since the last rankings were Inter Miami, who vaulted into the Top 10 for the first time ever after their 5-3 aggregate victory against Nashville SC in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16. Inter Miami skyrocketed eight spots up to eighth place.

Five-time Concacaf champions Monterrey remain in first place for a second straight time after defeating FC Cincinnati 1-0 and 2-1 in their Round of 16 Champions Cup series. Rayados also won another two matches in Liga MX.

Following Monterrey are three Liga MX sides who won their respective match-ups in the Champions Cup Round of 16: Club America, Tigres and Pachuca. Club America topped rivals Chivas 5-3, Tigres saw off Orlando City 4-2 and Pachuca defeated the Philadelphia Union 6-0.

2023 Champions Cup winners Club Leon are in fifth, followed in sixth-place by the first team from the United States, Columbus Crew, who climbed two places. Columbus eliminated the Houston Dynamo in the Champions Cup Round of 16.

Chivas are in seventh, followed by the aforementioned Inter Miami in eighth. Toluca bounced back up four spots to ninth, while the Philadelphia Union fell six spots to 10th after their Champions Cup exit to Pachuca,

Olimpia re-take top spot in Central America

After falling out of first place in the last rankings, Honduran giants Olimpia are back in the top spot in the Central American region, rising three spots to place 39th overall, two spots overall ahead of 41st and Champions Cup quarterfinalists Herediano of Costa Rica.

Another two Costa Rican sides reside in third and fourth in Central America, with Saprissa at 45th and Alajuelense at 49th. Rounding out the Top 5 in Central America is Guatemala’s Comunicaciones at 52nd overall.

Champions Cup results producing big movements

The results of the Champions Cup Round of 16 series yielded some big movements in the rankings. Among the winners benefitting the most were Inter Miami rising eight spots to eighth-place overall and the Columbus Crew hopping up two places from eighth to sixth overall to become the highest ranked team from the U.S.

The teams eliminated in the Round of 16 suffered falls in the rankings. The Philadelphia Union dropped six spots from fourth to 10th, Nashville SC went from 14th to 26th, the Houston Dynamo are now 33rd after being 23rd last time out and Orlando City SC fell out of the Top 10 from ninth to 15th.

Inter Miami register biggest upset

Inter Miami achieved the biggest upset when they defeated fellow Major League Soccer (MLS) side Nashville SC 5-3 on aggregate. Prior to the two-legged series, Inter Miami were 19th in the overall standings while Nashville SC were 14th, a difference of five places.

Behind two goals and an assist from Messi and two goals and two assists from Luis Suarez, Inter Miami got the job done to advance to the quarterfinal round where they will face top-ranked Monterrey.

https://www.concacaf.com/champions-cup/ ... confirmed/

Four clubs to battle to be crowned Concacaf club champion

Winner will claim the Confederation's fourth and final slot in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Tournament's bracket determined Semifinal pairings and each club's path to the Final

Based on competition standings, highest-ranked clubs will host second-leg matches

Miami, FL (Monday, April 15, 2024) – Concacaf has confirmed the schedule for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Semifinals. The two home-and-away series will take place on April 23 and 24 (first legs) and April 30 and May 1 (second legs) and will determine the competition’s Finalists.

The Concacaf Champions Cup 59th edition, revamped to include 27 clubs and five rounds, kicked off in February with Round One, followed by the Round of 16 in March and the Quarterfinals in the first two weeks of April.

The four clubs that have advanced to the Semifinals are (in alphabetical order): CF Monterrey (MEX), CF Pachuca (MEX), Club America (MEX), and Columbus Crew (USA).

In the quarterfinal matches, on Tuesday, April 9, the reigning MLS champions, Columbus Crew, advanced to their first Concacaf Champions Cup semifinal after defeating Tigres UANL 4-3 on penalties – the series ended 2-2 on aggregate. Later that night, Club America moved on to its eighth Champions Cup semifinal appearance with a 5-2 win at home over the New England Revolution (9-2 on aggregate).

The following day, CF Pachuca and CF Monterrey secured a spot in the penultimate round of the competition with home wins over CS Herediano and Inter Miami CF, respectively. CF Pachuca edged the Costa Rican club 2-1 at Estadio Hidalgo (7-1 on aggregate), and CF Monterrey defeated Inter Miami CF 3-1 at Estadio BBVA (5-2 on aggregate).

The Semifinal pairings and each club's path to the Final were determined at the competition's official draw on December 13, 2023, and are as follows (bracket is available below):

SF1: CF Pachuca vs Club America
SF2: Columbus Crew vs CF Monterrey

According to the competition's regulations, the best-performing club in each pairing will host the second-leg Semifinals. The current standings, which do not consider the results of Round One, are as follows:

2024 CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP STANDINGS
Based on points (pts), goal difference (gd), and goals scored (gs) in the Round of 16 and Quarterfinals.

CF Pachuca (10 pts, +12 gd, 13 gs)
Club America (9 pts, +9 gd, 14 gs)

After home-and-away play, the pairing winners will advance to the Final. Per the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup regulations, the host of the Final will be determined by the competition’s standings, with the highest-ranked club hosting the single-leg match.

Should any of CF Monterrey, CF Pachuca, or Club America secure the Final’s hosting rights, Concacaf would seek an alternative date due to Mexico’s national elections taking place on June 2. Concacaf will confirm further details after the return leg Semifinals.

Monterrey retains top spot in Concacaf Club Rankings

https://www.concacaf.com/champions-cup/ ... -rankings/

MIAMI – The latest edition of the Concacaf Club Rankings is out, with Mexican and Concacaf giants Monterrey retaining the top spot.

The Confederation launched a revamped rankings system earlier this year. Clubs gain points for results in official domestic league matches, regional cup matches, and Concacaf Champions Cup play.

Further details explaining the rankings and how clubs earn points can be found here: Concacaf launches new ranking system for region’s clubs and leagues.

America shrinks the distance to Monterrey to just 1 point

Monterrey (1,265 points) and Club America (1,264) are the first and second-ranked teams, respectively. The two Mexican clubs have had a stranglehold over the top two spots this year, with Monterrey overtaking America for first place last month.

The one-point difference is the minimal gap of separation this year. The clubs were previously separated by as little as two points in the March 4 rankings.

Both teams remain alive in their quest to win another Champions Cup. They could face each other in the final if they win their respective series.

All 4 Champions Cup semifinalist are in the Top 5

All four Concacaf Champions Cup semifinalists rank among the top five in the latest rankings. In that order, CF Monterrey, Club America, and CF Pachuca are first through third. Columbus Crew rose to fifth place, one point behind Tigres UANL, the team the MLS side defeated in a penalty shootout after a deadlocked quarterfinal series.

The Crew (1,228) jumped into the top ten last December. From ninth place, the club has risen to eighth, sixth, and now fifth place in the rankings.

Fellow MLS side Houston Dynamo FC (1,175), whom the Crew eliminated in the CCC Round of 16, rose to no. 25. Moving up eight spots, the Dynamo were among the biggest movers along with #80 San Francisco of Panama, #93 Genesis of Honduras, and #128 Universidad O&M of the Dominican Republic.

Sapprisa closes gap with Olimpia in Central American Clubs ranking

Top of the table in Honduras, #41 Olimpia (1,157) is the highest-ranked Central American club. Not far behind is #43 Saprissa (1,152) in second place. Herediano has fallen by five points to no. 46 overall, following losses in the quarterfinals to Pachuca, who has risen from no. 4 to third overall.

Next in the Central American rankings are #49 Alajuelense and #52 Comunicaciones, #53 Municipal, #54 Antigua GFC, #57 Motagua, #58 Club Atletico Independiente de La Chorrera, and #59 Marathon.

Columbus provides the biggest upsets after eliminating #3 Tigres in Champions Cup

The Concacaf Champions Cup quarterfinals saw a direct matchup between two top-six clubs. Formerly sixth-ranked Columbus Crew upset then third-ranked Tigres UANL with a penalty shootout win at the Estadio Universitario in Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

The two sides were even at 2-2 on aggregate after tying 1-1 in the first and second legs. Extra time was not enough to separate the two sides. Goalkeeper Patrick Schulte was the star of the shootout after blocking attempts from Tigres UANL legends Andre-Pierre Gignac and Guido Pizarro.

The Crew will look to pull off another upset over another Monterrey-based club when they meet no. 1 ranked Rayados in the semifinals on April 24 and May 1.

Liga MX extends the point difference with MLS to 245 points

Liga MX reigns supreme after seeing three clubs advance to the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals. Three of the quarterfinal series featured MLS vs. Liga MX matchups where Monterrey and Club America moved on.

Columbus Crew advanced over Tigres UANL on penalties to remain the lone MLS survivor in the tournament after Inter Miami CF and New England Revolution bowed out.

The latest league rankings saw Liga MX (9,910 points) take a +27 increase while MLS (9,665) took a -19 hit. Last month, the leagues were separated by 199 points.

Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras (9,292), Primera División de Costa Rica (9,274), and Liga Nacional de Fútbol de Guatemala (9,126) round out the top five.
