Girona is beautiful in the UCL, but there is always that question to resolve... when will we have certain news about the conflict with Manchester City regarding the same ownership??
:dontknow:
Given that City owns less than half, I doubt that UEFA will stop Girona from playing in CL. For certain news, we will probably have to wait until after the CL final.

There's a chance that City will be banned for cheating and then no problem for Girona!

UEFA has closed the eyes to that issue and Ceferin said that needs to be changed because its becoming more common: Red Bull, Red Bird (Liverpool and Milan), Elliott trus found in the past (Milan and a french club), city conglomerate (btw Troyes just about to get relegated to 3rd tier), Qatar SI, the owner of Aston Villa, Marinakis, etc. A lot of clubs are in the hands of guys/companies that have more than 1 club.

Chelsea also bought Strasbourg, Lyon owner has a Belgian club, Marinakis also bought Rio Ave and there are more.
There's no point imagining there will be UEFA interventions, UEFA de facto accepts that this is the new reality.

Congrats to Real Madrid for winning the title! :clapping:

And congrats to Girona for this extraordinary season! :clapping:

Barcelona also qualified for the next CL, so that the last CL spot is now between Atletico Madrid (likely) and Athletic Bilbao (unlikely).

Four more jornadas to the end

Jornada 35 is as follows

Fri. 10 May 2100 Alavés 2, Girona 2 Can Girona win and thus lock in second place at the end of this jornada :?: At 4', Eric heads in a corner to give Girona the lead--0-1. At 12', Guridi ties it for Alavés--1-1. Whatta GREAT first half :!: :applause: :applause: At 44', Yangel Herrera gives Girona the lead--whatta goal :!: Halftime in Mendizorroza; 17,906 on hand. Second half wasn't nearly as good as the first half, but there was a surprise waiting at 99'--Guridi scored his second of the game to tie it :!: Girona will be in third place if Barça wins on Monday, second if Barça loses.

Sat. 11 May

1400 Mallorca 1, Las Palmas 0 Mallorca is four points above the drop going in; Las Palmas is five points ahead of Mallorca. At 29', Gio González gives Mallorca the lead--1-0. Halftime. 16,050 on hand. Scoreless second half means a big win for Mallorca :!:

1615 Villarreal 3, Sevilla 2 Neither is in danger of dropping. Chances of European fútbol are little and none. At 25', penalty kick awarded to Sevilla for a questionable handball in the area. At 26', En-Nesyri converts--0-1. At 30', Sorloth heads in to tie for Villarreal--1-1. At 44', En-Nesyri heads in to make it 1-2 for Sevilla. Halftime. 16,862 on hand. At 84', we hear the refrán  Tanto va el cántaro a la fuente que se rompe  Mosquera ties for Villarreal--2-2. And at 97', Sorloth heads in to win it . . . although the announcers suggest that the final goal shoulda been disallowed.

1830 Granada 0, Real Madrid 4 Granada has little chance of avoiding the drop. El Real is THE CHAMP of LaLiga. At 38', Fran García breaks the ice for el Real--0-1. At 45'+2', Guler makes it 0-2 for el Real. Halftime. At 49', Brahim makes it 0-3. And now in the second half, Brahim adds another at 59'--0-4. Granada is officially dropped to Second Division for next season.

2100 Athletic 2, Osasuna 2 Athletic is still alive in the quest for the CL. Osasuna is going neither up nor down. At 40', Raúl García scores to give Osasuna the lead--0-1. Note--this is NOT the Raúl García who plays for Athletic :!: . . . and it's 0-1 at the half. At 47', Rubén García makes it 0-2 in favor of Osasuna. Hope I'm getting these names correct :!: :grin1: At 58', it's game on, as Iñaki Williams fires in a net-ripper, and it's 1-2. At 96', goalie Herrera of Osasuna can't hold a shot and Villalibre slams the ball into the goal to tie it for Athletic :exclamation:

Sun. 12 May

1400 Cádiz 1, Getafe 0 Cádiz has mathematical chances of beating the drop. Getafe in theory could win a spot for European fútbol, but it's unlikeñy . . . At 34', penalty kick awarded to Cádiz; converted by Alcaraz at 35'--1-0. Halftime; Cádiz has played much better than the visitors. 16,952 on hand. Cádiz holds on for a big win :!:

1615 Atlético 1, Celta 0 Atleti is all but safe to win a CL spot. Celta isn't yet safe from the drop . . . Scoreless first half. Will Atleti put it together in the second half :?: At 59' whatta save by Oblak :!: At 84', Atleti breaks through--Rodrigo de Paul, on as a sub, puts in a half-volley from the edge of the area--1-0. And that goal holds up and Atleti wins a tough one :!:

1830 Valencia 0, Rayo 0 The former is unlikely to qualify for European fútbol. Rayo could still drop . . . Scoreless at the half. Scoreless at the end.

2100 Betis 3, Almería 2 A win here would almost qualify Betis for a European spot. Almería has dropped mathematically. At 8', Fornals gives Betis the lead--1-0. At 28', Isco makes it 2-0. At 45'+1', Baptistao cuts the margiin to 2-1. Halftime. 48,000 plus reported on hand. At 64', Ayoze Pérez makes it 3-1, but at 66' the margin returns to one goal, as Kuka puts in the rebound of his own shot off the post--3-2. There it ends. Should la Real Sociedad lose to Barça tomorrow, Betis will end the jornada in sixth place.

Mon. 13 May 2100 Barça 2, Real Sociedad 0 Barça has all but locked in a CL spot for next season. La Real could fall out of sixth place with a loss. At 40', Lamine Yamal scores to give Barça the lead; assist by Gundogan--1-0 at halftime. This as a final result would lift Barça to second place by a point over Girona and would leave la Real in seventh place, a point back of Betis. And so it comes to pass, although with the addition of a pk scored by Raphinha at about 93'.

Jornada 35 is complete--Barça has moved back to second place and Betis has moved up to sixth, to the detriment of Girona in the first case and to that of Real Sociedad in the second case.

And today begins Jornada 36--yes, midweek :!: Do they gottta do it this way :?: :fingal:

Here is Jornaada 36

Tues. 14 May

1930 Osasuna 1, Mallorca 1 The latter could use some points . . . At about 14', Moncayola gives Osasuna the lead--1-0. And it's 1-0 until 65', when a deflection after a corner ties it for Mallorca--1-1. Goal credited to Darder. And 1-1 is the final score--huge point won by Mallorca :!: :!:

2130 Real Madrid 5, Alavés 0 No anguish here :!: At 10', Bellingham scores from a difficult angle--1-0. At 27', Vini Jr. makes it 2-0. At 45'+1', Valverde makes it 3-0; now at halftime. At 70\, Vini Jr. makes it 4-0. At 81', Guler makes it 5-0, which is the final score.

2200 Girona 0, Villarreal 1 Can Girona climb back into second place :?: First half ends scoreless. 11,440 on hand. At 59, Traoré scores his first goal in LaLiga to give the Yellow Sub the lead--0-1. And Villarreal holds on to win :!:

Wed. 15 May

1930 Rayo 2, Granada 1 Full time. Rayo needs a win :!: Granada has already dropped . . . At 23', Lejeune gives Rayo the lead; at 80', De Frutos makes it 2-0; Lucas Boyé cuts the margin at 89', but Rayo wins it 2-1.

1930 Sevilla 0, Cádiz 1 Cádiz is still in the drop--a win is needed :!: Sergi Guardiola wins it for Cádiz at 96', thus keeping alive the chances for Cádiz to avoid the drop.

2200 Celta 2, Athletic 1 Full time. Celta needs a win; Athletic still has very distant hopes of a CL spot . . . Berenguer gives Athletic the lead at 23', but Swedburg at 68' and Hugo Alvarez at 71' give Celta the win.

2200 Getafe 0, Atlético 3 Atleti will want to guarantee their CL spot . . . At 27, 42, and 51 Griezmann scores up a hat trick--0-3 the final, and Atleti has nailed down the CL for next season.

Thurs. 16 May  A family emergency kept me from following these games

1930 Las Palmas 2, Betis 2 Betis will try to nail down an EL spot . . .

2130 Almería 0, Barça 2 Almería has dropped; Barça needs a win to stay in second place . . . if Girona wins on Tues.

2200 Real Sociedad 1, Valencia 0 La Real will need a win to stay in the hunt for an EL spot. Valencia could end the season in an EL spot . . . if they win the three games remaining and eveything else goes their way . . .

And after this midweek jornada, just two games are left for one and all :!:

The most boring Liga in who knows how many years. And I'm not saying it because I'm salty that Real Cheaters ran away with it, with or without refereeing help. Just look at the other zones of the table. Cádiz could still make the relegation battle interesting, I guess, though I wouldn't count on it.

Villareal got a crucial win last night in the fight for Europe. They have a decent chance to catch up to one of Sociedad pr Betis who have yet to play against each other plus Betis has a match with the champions!
On the other hand Girona’s loss will give barka a bit of breathing space in the fight for the precious second place!

After today's three games, only the last two jornadas remain to be played. Of course, the schedule had to be figured out in time for all necessary arrangements to be made; the guiding principle is that any game which could affect another team must be played at the same hour. There is just one game in Jornada 37 that could have had no effect on other games

Sat. 18 May 2100 Alavés 1, Getafe 0 Full time. Goal by Carlos Vicente at 12' holds up to make Alavés a winndr.

The other nine games all had possible effect on at least one other game at the time the schedule had to be prepared; all nine games in this category will be played

Sunday 19 May 1900

Athletic-Sevilla

Atlético-Osasuna

Barça-Rayo

Cádiz-Las Palmas

Granada-Celta

Mallorca-Almería

Betis-Real Sociedad

Valencia-Girona

Villarreal-Real Madrid

The most strange thing of the season will be Seville not in Europe in 2024/25. In the last 20 seasons they participated in all but one (2012/13).
