Norwegian Season 2011

Post by Kjello »

A new season starts tonight. As said in the 2010-thread the national TV-channel NRK has sold their rights to broadcast one match each matchday to the new channel for men, MAX. They will broadcast one match each friday at 19:00. This is a new situation in Norway. And I'm really excited to see how this will work. Both in terms of TV-viewer and of course spectator numbers. The Friday evening is a really strong TV-night in Norway. With the so called "Gold line" on NRK and several high profile programs at TV 2 will be a hard competitor to the matches being played at Fridays. Along with moving NRKs match from saturday to friday, TV 2 has got approval to move one of the sunday matches to saturday at 16:00. So we now go from having three different matchdays to have four the next season. We don't have to go longer back than 2006 to find a situation with only two matchdays.

The schedule for the first round is
Friday March 18
19:00 Sarpsborg 08 – Molde

Saturday March 19
16:00 Viking – Vålerenga

Sunday March 20
18:00 Strømsgodset – Sogndal
18:00 Tromsø – Haugesund
18:00 Odd Grenland – Start
18:00 Stabæk – Lillestrøm
20:00 Brann – Rosenborg

Monday March 21
19:00 Aalesund – Fredrikstad

This season seem to become quite different from the last two seasons. There's no really clear favourite for the gold this season. And most predict a much tighter league than the past seasons.

Rosenborg as always is the hottest name. But not as hot as the earlier years. This because they yet again have changed coach. And since August 2010 Rosenborg has lost almost an entire central line. Defender Stadsgaard left in August. His partner Demidov left as bosman in January. The same did striker Iversen who has been a crucial part of Rosenborg's first team the last five years, being the teams top scorer in four of them. And in late January defensive midfielder Anthony Annan was sold to Schalke 04. Annan has by far been Rosenborg's best players the last two seasons. And is a huge loss for Rosenborg. Rosenborg's results this season has been variable. From a strong 4-0 over Spartak Moscow, to a 5-0 loss for FC Copenhagen. And the training matches has showed a defence who leaks a lot of goals. And just last weekend a 2-0 lead over Viking after 80 minutes turned around to a 3-2 loss in 10 minutes.

The second hottest name is Vålerenga. Much because they were the ones to challenge Rosenborg last season. Secondly because they've strengthen the team at the most crucial positions from last season. And third because both Vålerenga and coach Andresen has been in this position before. While most clubs taking silver in Norway fall apart the following season. Most clubs in Norway mainly have the angle that they are going to rob Rosenborg for the gold. But Vålerenga looks like they are looking at it on a higher level. Winning Tippeligaen and beating Rosenborg isn't a utopia. And both Vålerenga and coach Andresen is more interested in development than short therm results.

Tromsø is another name mentioned in the gold fight. Not strange since they took bronze last season and had the lead most of the spring. Also, Tromsø has over several years had continuity on both leader and player side. And together with Rosenborg, Tromsø is the only team to end top 6 all the last four seasons. And this winter Tromsø has had some strong results in the training matches. However, there's on problem for Tromsø. And that's economy.
Tromsø's economical problems is so serious that they are risking a point deduction this summer. And this winter, Tromsø had to use this years sponsor income to cover expenses from last season. And the audit committee stated in the annual report that unless Tromsø gets a huge player sale, or gets more money from their investors, the bank account will be empty early this fall and that to club may risk bankruptcy. Despite this, Tromsø rejected a 10 million offer from Rosenborg to buy midfielder Kara Mbodj. Believing that foreign clubs such as Arsenal are dying to buy him this summer.
Tromsø also has a problem in attack, which last season showed clearly. While having striker Sigurd Rushfeldt available the team actually had the lead most of the time. But when Rushfeldt got injured they lost that lead and eventually dropped to third. This season Tromsø even got a weaker attack than last season. So they'll relay on Rushfeldt being able to play.

The fourth team to be mentioned in the gold fight is Molde. Much because their new coach Ole Gunnar Solskjær. Who's by many seen on as the biggest player in the history of Norway. Along with the 20 millions got from the investors to buy new players. However, the big reinforcements hasn't come. The only "big" signings for Molde so far is attacker Davy Claude Angan from Hønefoss and defender Børre Steenslid from Viking. However, Steenslid got a long therm an possibly career threatening knee injury in a training match against Tromsø this winter.
Molde got at strong team. And didn't underperform last season. But they lack a top striker and their defenders and right back are mediocre.

Behind these four there are several teams who might surprise. Both Stabæk, Fredrikstad, Viking and Aalesund has had some strong matches this winter. However, I would be surprised if some of these fight over the gold. With a possible exception of Viking.

At the bottom of the table it's also expected to be a tight run.
The two newly promoted teams Sarpsborg 08 and Sogndal is the hottest clubs to end at the bottom. Not strange since both clubs have much smaller budgets than the other clubs in the league. Actually, most of the players of Sarpsborg 08 still have daytime jobs. This we haven't seen in at least 7-8 years in Norway. And most clubs has had full time players since the late 90's.

Another "favourite" to be relegated is actually Brann. Brann is usually the league champions when we talk in march. But this season the expectations and excitement in Bergen has fallen dramatically. The team that ended at 13th last season, has lost several profiles of their then first squad. Most mentionable their top scorer last season Petter Vaagan Moen and top scorer in 2009 and main striker Erik Huseklepp. Other profiles that has left the club is midfielders Eirik Bakke and Jan Gunnar Solli. Most people in Bergen now thinks that the club will fight against relegation. And Norway's biggest news paper VG has Brann at 15th and relegation this season. The low expectations also effects the excitement. As late as in 2009 Brann sold 13 000 season tickets and had 3000 on a waiting list. So far they've only sold 7400 season tickets. And only four days before the league start against arch rival Rosenborg, it was only sold 8900 tickets of a capacity of 17 300. This led to sponsor Chess buying 8000 tickets yesterday and giving them away for free. Also the results has been poor so far. Just last Sunday they lost 3-1 to a local 2nd division team.

Lillestrøm, Odd Grenland, Strømsgodset, Haugesund and Start is all expected to end at anything from 14th place to 5th place. However, we got a strange situation at Start. Recently they announced that coach Knut Tørum wouldn't get his contract renewed. This despite that he has turned Start into a regular Tippeliga team and partially been fighting for medals in the league. And at the best been playing very good football. However, at the same time they also stated that a new consideration will be done after the spring season. This announcement was of course slaughtered by both fans, sports experts and experts of communication.

What a start!

Rosenborg had gone 33 matches undefeated, but lost to Brann in Bergen in the first match of the season. Brann who no one has any faith in this season.

Lillestrøm won 7-0 away against Stabæk, with four goals by Nigerian super talent Anthony Ujah.

Newcomer Sarpsborg 08 won 3-0 against hero Solskjær´s Molde who are using a lot of resources before this season.

Tromsø and Vålerenga won, but that was no surprise. They are both looking strong this season. And Fredrikstad won away in Aalesund in their return to the top flight.

Also Strømsgodset and Start got victories in thight games.

Great kick of to the season and it is just as open as predicted. No clear favourites this season.

About 100 players of the Norwegian league are about to start a strike, just before the 9th MD!! They want to select by themselves the companies that they get sponsored from (shirts and shoes).

Though that's probably the most important point for the players, and probably the most difficult one to accept by the clubs, it's not the only point.

The seven points are
  • 1. The standardized contract has to be changed so players can't be fired so easily.
    2. The players wants the right to sign personal sponsor contracts when not in conflict with the club's existing sponsors.
    3. The players want to choose their work equipment (mainly shoes) themselves.
    4. A minimum of 7 days vacation during season, and the last match before the vacation has to be scheduled at least three months before the vacation.
    5. Players that do the same work in a club has to be hired with the same positions per cent. And it should be a correlation between workload and actual working hours. Read a 100 % position gives 37,5 hours a week and 7,5 hours a day. Anything over this means overtime pay.
    6. A standard ball has to be introduced.
    7. All clubs has to make it easier for players to take an education without interfering with the players work as players.
It's now been stated that matchday 9 will be postponed. And it's unknown how long the strike will last. Vålerenga's CEO states that it might end up lasting very long.

October 26 is the date when postponed match is supposed to be played. But as more matches might end up being postponed, it might end up being hard for NFF to find free dates. The upcoming round 3 of the Cup next week is also in danger.
I won't be surprised if the league might end up finishing one weekend later in the fall. Read for the first time ever an league ending in December.

I'll come with an update of the first 8 matchdays tomorrow.

I'm not very good at keeping promises these days I see. But still, better late than sorry.
It's been a really strange season so far in Norway. And to be honest, other than Odd Grenland, I can't find a single team that has delivered as expected. I won't go into the two first rounds as Mack has done so.

Matchday 3
Friday April 8

Stabæk – Vålerenga 1–0
1-0 Stefan Strandberg (OG) 38'
11 053 spectators

Saturday April 9
Brann – Fredrikstad 0–1
0-1 Celso Borges 5'
15 501 spectators

Sunday April 10
Strømsgodset – Odd Grenland 2–0
1-0 Ola Kamara 37'
2-0 Jo Inge Berget 71'
5 109 spectators

Tromsø – Start 2–0
1-0 Mostafa Abdellaoue 72'
2-0 Sigurd Rushfeldt 78'
4 328 spectators

Aalesund – Haugesund 1–0
1-0 Demar Phillips 19'
Missed penalty, Peter Orry Larsen (Aalesund) 73'
8 963 spectators

Sarpsborg 08 – Sogndal 1–0
1-0 Jo Nymo Matland 2'
4 048 spectators

Rosenborg – Lillestrøm 4–4
0-1 Erling Knudtzon 16'
1-1 Rade Prica 27'
1-2 Trond Olsen (OG) 46'
1-3 Nosa Igiebor 50'
2-3 Rade Prica (Pen) 62'
3-3 Rade Prica 70'
4-3 Rade Prica 89'
4-4 Frode Kippe 90'
11 717 spectators

For the neutral eye this was a fantastic match. Constant attacks, lots of chances, Rosenborg coming back from 1-3 to 4-3, and then Lillestrøm equalizing 4 minutes on stoppage time on a very controversial corner. This is the lowest number of spectators at Lerkendal since the new stadium stood finished in the late summer of 2002. And the first one under 12 000 since June 16 2002. A disgrace for Trondheim as a football city.

Monday April 11
Viking – Molde 2–2
0-1 Davy Claude Angan 4'
1-1 Erik Nevland 30'
2-1 Valon Berisha 36'
2-2 Davy Claude Angan 78'
10 105 spectators

Matchday 7
Monday May 16

Rosenborg – Haugesund 0–1
0-1 Thomas Sørum 53'
20 710 spectators

After two consecetive wins, the expectations was high before the classical May 16 match at Lerkendal. And it couldn't end in a worse way. Rosenborg played their worst home match in ages. Probably since the 2005-season. It was only a good Daniel Örlund who stoped Haugesund from leading with both two and three goals at half time. Rosenborg created absolutly nothing against a team who had let in 12 goals the last 3 matches. Haugesund had only 10 matchfit players before this match, and had to play with several half injuried players. This was as far as I know the first time a May 16 match had less spectators than there are seats at Lerkendal.

Monday May 30
19.00 Odd Grenland – Rosenborg

Both Vålerenga and Rosenborg need to win this round to have any chance at winning the gold. Hopfully with the top teams giving away points aswell.

Norwegian Cup
Three rounds has been played of the Cup so far. And in the first round most of the Tippeliga teams had no problems getting through to the second round. Actually, of the 32 teams in Tippeligaen and Adeccoligaen only Bryne in Adeccoligaen was knocked out. However, there still was some exciting matches. Tromsø was behind both 1-0 and 3-2 to the local team Finnsnes. But eventually won 3-6. While Stabæk and Sarpsborg 08 only won 1-0 over their opponents. Molde won by the biggest margin with 11-0 over the local team Eidsvåg.

In the second round we got our first exit by a Tippeliga team. For the second year in a row Vålerenga got knocked out in the second round. This time for the local team Kjelsås. One of Lillestrøm's ultras groups thanked Kjelsås by hanging up this banner at Kjelsås's home ground.
Image

The banner says "Cup heroes! We thank you! Greetings UFC Lillestrøm"

Lillestrøm won their match 2-0 over Gjøvik after goals in the 77th and 84th minute. As said Vålerenga was the only team to be knocked out. However, some others were'nt to far away. This counts especially for Brann. After two goals in stoppage time Brann took a marginal 3-2 win over the local team Fana. Strømsgodset went to half time with the score 2-1 over Birkebeineren. However, the second half ended scoreless. Stabæk also only won 2-1 over Hasle-Løren. Sarpsborg 08 won 3-2 over Bærum after playing the last 25 minutes with 10 men. While Start won 4-3 over Vindbjart after playing the last 35 minutes with 10 men.

In the third round we got our second exit by a Tippeliga team. However, that's less than usual. Usually 3-4 teams is knocked out when coming so far. Stabæk was the only team to be knocked out this round. Losing 3-1 to Hønefoss who dispite playing Tippeligaen last season, is bottom team in Adeccoligaen so far this season. Otherwise there were several really close exits.
Lillestrøm needed penalties to knock out Sandefjord.
Rosenborg was in deep truble. Dispite playing against 10 men the last 25 minutes of the second half, Rosenborg's equaliser to 2-2 against the local team Byåsen came 2:55 into stoppage time after three added minutes. Actually Byåsen was close to putting their third while being ten men as they hit the post a few times. But, when playing the extra halfs Rosenborg fast scored both their third, fourth and fifth goal. In the end it ended 6-3 to Rosenborg after a terrible match. Youngster Mushaga Bakenga was Rosenborg's rescuer with both goals in the original time, and two goals in the extra time.
Like Rosenborg, Aalesund equalised to 1-1 in the very last second of the stoppage time vs their local rival Hødd. When it all looked to end up with penalties. Aalesund repeated what they did in the last seconds of the second half, with another goal in the last seconds of the stoppage time.

The 8 matches in the fourth round are these.
Wednesday June 22
FK Haugesund - Viking
Alta - Tromsø
Aalesund - Sarpsborg 08
Odd Grenland - Fredrikstad
Start - Strømsgodset
Brann - Sogndal
Rosenborg - Lillestrøm
Molde - Hønefoss

The fourth round is usually the round with the worst spectator numbers. Hopefully, a local derby in both Haugesund and Bergen, along with one of the biggest classics in Trondheim and Aalesund having a home match will give decent numbers. Looking back 15-20 years, the third and fourth rounds were usually the ones with the biggest spectators numbers. Back in 1991 over 25 000 spectators entered Lerkendal to see Rosenborg vs Kongsvinger in the fourth round. Today it's a really good number if over 8 000 comes to see Rosenborg - Lillestrøm. Simply a sad development. Gladly, the Cup final is still a huge party in Norway. Though I'm afraid that the fact that we this season have two league rounds after the Cup final may ruin it's status in the long therm.

Matchday 10
Saturday May 28

Sarpsborg 08 – Lillestrøm 2–4
0-1 Nosa Igiebor 5'
0-2 Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson 15'
1-2 Joackim Jørgensen 51'
2-2 Morten Giæver (Pen) 72'
2-3 Anthony Ujah (Pen) 78'
2-4 Björn Bergmann Sigurðarson 87'
3 552 spectators

In my opinion the referee ruined this match for Sarpsborg. After 10 minutes Lillestrøm's goalkeeper rushed out and felled Sarpsborg's Martin Wiig. It should have been a penalty and probably a red card to the goalkeeper. To top it off when Sarpsborg's goalkeeper did exactly the same Lillestrøm got their penalty and scored their 2-3 goal just minutes after Sarpsborgs equaliser.

Strømsgodset – Fredrikstad 1–0
1-0 Anders Konradsen 68'
5 241 spectators

Strømsgodset shows both quality and stability at home. However, they'll have to improve their away performances a lot to be able to take the title. Strømsgodset has in the later years had a very clear profile on using youngsters. And Anders Konradsen is yet another success of Ronny Deila's regime. Except defenders Andersen and Aas, and attacker Storflor which all are over 30, pretty much all of Strømsgodset's players are younger than 25.

Sunday May 29
Sogndal – Vålerenga 0–1
0-1 Espen Olsen (OG) 22'
3 254 spectators

A very needed win for Vålerenga and their first since matchday 2. However, it was a really weak performance by Vålerenga and a undeserved win in my opinion. However, as Vålerenga's coach said it, "For us it was the most beautiful goal ever".

Aalesund – Viking 2–0
1-0 Magnus Sylling Olsen 10'
2-0 Michael Barrantes 57'
9 736 spectators

Viking seems lost, and so does their coach Hareide. After performing really well this winter, nothing has gone right for Hareide's men this season. The teams has a weak defence, a weak but exciting midfield, and in attack veterans like Nevland and Sæternes hasn't performed. Actually, since Nevlands return to Viking last summer, Viking has only won 3 matches. Michael Barrantes was dropped by Costa Rica in their squad for the Gold Cup. But showed in this match that he should have been included. Viking's goalkeeper Rune Jarstein who on Saturday will face Portugal didn't play his best match and have to take responsibility for Aalesund's goals.

Haugesund – Molde 5–0
1-0 Alexander Søderlund 7'
2-0 Pape Paté Diouf (OG) 22'
3-0 Thomas Sørum 39'
4-0 Thomas Sørum 51'
5-0 Nikola Djurdjic (Pen) 59'
4 287 spectators

What to say? This simply shows how unpredictable the Norwegian league is. Molde hadn't lost away since Matchday 1 and was starting to look like a real contender to the gold. Haugesund is starting to look like the team they were last season, though they still have many players out with injuries. This short brake we have now will do Haugesund good.

Start – Stabæk 2–4
1-0 Espen Hoff 32'
1-1 Pálmi Rafn Pálmason 46'
1-2 Alain Junior Ollé Ollé 58'
1-3 Pálmi Rafn Pálmason 61'
2-3 Ole Martin Årst 64'
2-4 Veigar Páll Gunnarsson 65'
6 399 spectators

Studying the Start fans the last month would have been a perfect example in fans behaviour. After 4 matches the Start fans demanded a new contract for the coach. Now, they're demanding that he'll leave the job. Really funny to see how things change in football in such short time. Stabæk is starting to look like one of the clear favourites to the gold. While both Tromsø and Strømsgodset has played 6 home matches and 3 away, Stabæk has played 4 at home and 5 away. And while Stabæk is about equally good away as at home, both Tromsø and especially Strømsgodset is significantly weaker away than at home.

Tromsø – Brann 4–0
1-0 Sigurd Rushfeldt 37'
2-0 Sigurd Rushfeldt 75'
3-0 Sigurd Rushfeldt 82'
4-0 Tom Høgli (Pen) 90'
4 844 spectators

About a year ago Sigurd Rushfeldt said the following, "I'll take Brattbakk's record on May 29 2011". And what a way to do it. The first one with the left foot, then the right foot, before he finish it all with a goal on the head. So 19 years after his first goal he's now the new all-time goalscorer in Norway with 168 goals so far. And the day afterwards, he didn't exclude taking another season. No matter how many goals he'll score the rest of this season, and the possible next season, this record will stand for a very long time. Players that scores a lot of goals tends to be sold to some foreign club these days. And there's no one with over 40 goals that's still young enough to reach Rushfeldt's number.
The match it self wasn't that exciting. Tromsø had the ball a lot, but other than the goals there weren't that many chances.

Monday May 30. mai
Odd Grenland – Rosenborg 3–3
1-0 Simen Brenne 18'
2-0 Forde Johnsen 31'
2-1 Rade Prica 33'
2-2 Mushaga Bakenga 73'
3-2 Magnus Myklebust 86'
3-3 Mikael Dorsin 87'
5 777 spectators

The first 30 minutes Rosenborg looked to be asleep in this match. They were overplayed by Odd Grenland. However, after a substitute and the 2-1 goal, Rosenborg took over the match. It was the same against Start last week, overplayed the first half before gradually becoming better in the second half. Rosenborg may now say a long goodbye to the gold within the next two matches. Rosenborg first got Aalesund away, and then Tromsø at home. Anything else than 6 points and it's adiós to even fighting over the gold. And being only one point above the relegation zone, Rosenborg desperately needs points the following matches. Hopefully they'll manage to be on board before the CL-qualification starts in 6 weeks.

Matchday 11
Friday June 10

Brann – Sogndal 2–0
1-0 Diego Guastavino 76'
2-0 Bjarte Haugsdal 82'
11 510 spectators

Sogndal actually played a very good match here. With a solid defence and counter attacks. However, their goalkeeper (on loan from Brann) didn't have his best match. On the first goal he didn't manage to fist a easy shoot over the goal. And on the second goal he literally passed the ball to Brann's youngster Haugsdal. After the match Brann's coach joked about giving Sogndal's goalkeeper a higher salary.

Monday June 13
Haugesund – Viking 2–0
1-0 Daniel Bamberg 2'
2-0 Nikola Djurdjic 55'
5 000 spectators

The crises continue for Viking. Last week their director of sports Egil Østenstad quit his job because the club hasn't delivered as expected the last three seasons. As stated after the previous match, Haugesund is starting to look like themselves from last season, despite still having major problems with injuries.

Lillestrøm – Odd Grenland 1–1
Red card, Simen Brenne (Odd Grenland) 28'
0-1 Magnus Myklebust 52'
1-1 Arild Sundgot 76'
5 363 spectators

Despite playing over 60 minutes against 10 men, Lillestrøm didn't impress at all. Odd Grenland took a deserved lead, and was close to putting a second several times.

Molde – Start 5–1
1-0 Pape Paté Diouf 7'
2-0 Davy Claude Angan 13'
3-0 Pape Paté Diouf 24'
3-1 Espen Børufsen 48'
4-1 Makhtar Thioune 76'
5-1 Daniel Chima Chukwu 81'
8 702 spectators

Molde revenged their loss from last round and is still looking like a real contestant for the gold. Start is in a huge crises. The coach wont get his contract renewed, half the squad is bosman players after this season and the economy is weak.

Stabæk – Aalesund 1–2
0-1 Jonathan Parr 7'
1-1 Alain Junior Ollé Ollé 57'
1-2 Christian Myklebust 73'
6 324 spectators

For the first time Aalesund manages to beat Stabæk away. Stabæk has a really weak run at home this season. Only 6 out of 15 points at home. That's simply to weak if you want to fight for a medal in the very end. The match was very exciting, with a lot of chances from both sides. A draw would perhaps have been fear. However, as Aalesund lacks several players due to Gold Cup I would have found them the moral winner.

Stabæk's future is starting to look dark. Their 75 million € arena is giving them problems. The owner of the arena claims he can't earn money having Stabæk playing there regularly. This because they can't sign deals on a long basis because they'll never know if Stabæk is playing Fridays, Sunday or Mondays. And which weekends they'll be having home matches.

So Stabæk has been given two choices which they'll have to answer within the end of this month.
1. Take full responsibility of everything going on in the arena, and pay a much bigger rent.
2. Leave the arena.

If 2 Stabæk then got three choices.
1. Build a new stadium somewhere else. Which probably would cost at least 25 million €.
2. Invest at least 15 million € in their old stadium Nadderud.
3. Move across the county border to the national stadium Ullevaal.

Actually, this may mean an end to Stabæk as a regular Tippeliga team.

Fredrikstad – Sarpsborg 08 1–1
0-1 Martin Wiig 65'
1-1 Tarik Elyounoussi 86'
12 565 spectators

The Østfold derby delivered a fantastic frame for this match. A full stadium and two close rivals playing each other. And the match didn't disappoint either. Both teams created several big chances the first half, with Sarpsborg having the upper hand. A fantastic counter attack gave Sarpsborg the lead. After that Fredrikstad took over most of the play. And put a lot of pressure on Sarpsborg's goal. And it wasn't undeserved when Elyounoussi dribbled through the defence and lobed the ball over the goal keeper.

Matchday 12
Thursday June 16

Sogndal – Haugesund 3–1
0-1 Alexander Søderlund 4'
1-1 Ole Jørgen Halvorsen 9'
2-1 Mats Solheim 24'
3-1 Ole Jørgen Halvorsen 38'
1 884 spectators

A important and strong win by Sogndal after getting one early in the face. Just the kind of matches Sogndal need to win.

Strømsgodset – Molde 0–1
0-1 Pape Paté Diouf 12'
6 022 spectators

A really strong win by Molde. Molde is showing really good form and Solskjær's rotation system is starting to show results in a period of many matches.

Tromsø – Lillestrøm 1–0
1-0 Mostafa Abdellaoue 30'
4 743 spectators

A typical top team win. Good teams win even matches.

Aalesund – Rosenborg 1–3
0-1 Rade Prica (Pen) 31'
0-2 Morten Moldskred 45'
0-3 Morten Moldskred 66'
1-3 Michael Barrantes 77'
10 522 spectators

For once Rosenborg took control over the match from the start. Though the penalty was a bit cheap, Rosenborg dominated most of the match. There were only sporadic attacks from the home team. Aalesund's coach Kjetil Rekdal showed poor sportsmanship after the match. Claiming Rosenborg was NFF's favourite club and that they've the last 20 years always gotten 50-50 decisions with them and that the match schedule had always been adjusted to fit Rosenborg's needs.

Start – Fredrikstad 3–2
0-1 Tarik Elyounoussi (Pen) 24'
1-1 Ole Martin Årst 49'
2-1 Ole Martin Årst 52'
3-1 Ole Martin Årst 68'
Red card, Amin Askar (Fredrikstad) 70'
3-2 Joachim Thomassen 76'
5 585 spectators

This was a very deserved win for Start. First of all, Fredrikstad got a penalty for something the clearly was a Start player sending the ball away with his head. But led by captain Årst, Start fought back and for once showed spirit.

Sarpsborg 08 – Stabæk 1–1
1-0 Martin Wiig 40'
1-1 Gilles Ondo 75'
4 078 spectators

Sarpsborg is a strong home team, while Stabæk is a strong away team. But in this match both disappointed. The match was really poor and only a few players may feel proud about the match.

Viking – Brann 3–0
1-0 Bengt Sæternes 6'
2-0 Bengt Sæternes 42'
3-0 Bengt Sæternes (Pen) 90'
11 080 spectators

A very crucial win for both Viking and Hareide. With Sogndal winning earlier on the day they simply had to win this. I actually also think Hareide needed this win to avoid being fired. You could see the relief in both Hareide and the whole Viking stadium.

Matchday 13
Sunday June 19

Molde – Sogndal 2–0
1-0 Pape Paté Diouf 41'
2-0 Magne Hoset 79'
10 775 spectators

Molde celebrates their 100 year anniversary with a solid home win over Sogndal. Solskjær really have something big going on in Molde. And you can easily see that his coaching style is adopted from one of the very best. The question is, will he be able to keep it at this level over a long period of time.

Haugesund – Start 1–0
1-0 Daniel Bamberg 24'
Red card, Umaru Bangura (Haugesund) 64'
4 401 spectators

Haugesund is home team nr 1 in Norway. And once again they shows this. Start's coach Knut Tørum decided to leave his job this Wednesday just 5 hours before their cup match. He felt he couldn't fix the problems Start have. And he's correct. Start's players shows bad attitude and several has criticized Tørum anonymously in the media.

Brann – Aalesund 1–1
1-0 Kim Ojo 28'
1-1 Michael Barrantes 48'
10 814 spectators

Pretty boring game with a fair result. This is the lowest spectators number in over 7 years for Brann. And if the results doesn't get better, I wouldn't be surprised if they go under 10 000 this summer.

Fredrikstad – Odd Grenland 0–1
0-1 Håvard Storbæk 21'
7 679 spectators

A really strong win by Odd Grenland. If I remember correctly this is the first win ever for Odd Grenland in Fredrikstad.

Lillestrøm – Strømsgodset 4–2
1-0 Anthony Ujah 4'
2-0 Anthony Ujah 46'
3-0 Anthony Ujah 74'
3-1 Muhamed Keita 77'
4-1 Anthony Ujah 78'
4-2 Alfred Sankoh 90'
5 612 spectators

Ujah's on fire...
Anthony Ujah is a very good player at his best, but then you get one or two matches where you don't see him at all. Rumours has it that Mainz is bidding 3,5 million € for him. In my opinion at least 1,5 million too much.

Vålerenga – Sarpsborg 08 2–0
1-0 Mohammed Fellah 42'
2-0 Bojan Zajic 78'
14 208 spectators

Vålerenga hadn't played a match in like three weeks. And you could see that they've used the time good. Though Sarpsborg was weaken, this is by far the best match by Vålerenga this season. Vålerenga should also be happy with finally having striker Yssouf Koné fit for match. A few more matches and he will lift Vålerenga's offensive strength.

Stabæk – Viking 0–1
0-1 Vidar Nisja 72'
6 717 spectators

Second win in a row for Viking. Stabæk could be history as a top club after this season. The club is bleeding money due to it's expensive stadium. And it doesn't look like it will get a solution.

Rosenborg – Tromsø 3–1
1-0 Daniel Fredheim Holm 5'
1-1 Kara Mbodj 32'
2-1 Fredrik Björck (OG) 89'
3-1 Per Ciljan Skjelbred 90'
16 944 spectators

Once again Rosenborg took control from the very beginning. However, Tromsø gradually took more and more control of the match. And it was fair that the match went 1-1 to half time. In the second half Tromsø started out best, but this time Rosenborg took more and more control. And it eventually paid off. With this win Rosenborg gave Molde the lead on the table. A nice gesture on their 100 year anniversary. However, this was most important for Rosenborg's own gold chances. Looking at the schedule, I think Rosenborg will jump several spots the next month. Perhaps even take the lead if things go their way.

Some other news.
Out of nowhere it was announced Tuesday that the TV-rights for 2013-2016 for 6 of 8 matches has been sold to Canal+. Other TV channels wasn't even invited to bid. Canal+ has bought the 5 matches that are sent on PPV channels, along with the main match on Sundays which also will be sent on PPV in the future. The TV-rights that are left is the Friday and Monday match, a matchday program late sunday evenings, along with the home matches of the national team, the cup, Adeccoligaen and the womens league. TV 2 who had the rights that was bought by Canal+ stated that NFF has acted unprofessional and they feel betrayed by them. They also said that they would consider not bidding at the two remaining matches at all. Canal+ has supposobly paid 1,08 billion NOK for the 6 matches. Which is 270 million NOK each year, or about 33-35 million €. If this is correct, this is over twice as much as the previous deal. The previous deal was worth 200 millions a year. With the friday match standing for 45 millions and the monday match for 30 millions. As the Friday and Monday matches is still for sale. This means that the 6 matches now sold has been sold for 270 million instead of 125 millions. Media experts claims that the two remaining matches would go for a total of at least 100 million NOK. These two matches will go on public TV, and all companies will be allowed to bid. Personally I'm very unsure about if TV 2 will bid or not. TV 2 is and want to be a important football channel. However, at the same time I don't see them being the second violin. TV 2 themselves claim they was ready to bid 1,4 billion NOK for all 8 matches including the matchday program. Or 44-45 million € a year. This would also be including production costs for all the 240 matches. Which according to TV 2 is about 50 million NOK each year. So TV 2 claims that NFF has accepted a net offer of 220 million a year, instead of 350 millions. However, TV 2 seems to forget that two of the matches along with the matchday program is still for sale. Which in my opinion probably would bring in about 150 millions a year. At the same time I don't believe TV 2 was ready to bid so much as they several times have stated that they feel that they are paying too much already.

Along with the obvious complaints from TV 2, the deal has also created some negative reactions from other parts.
Norsk Tipping who has had the naming rights to the league the last 20 years don't like it at all. Canal+ broadcast from London, and by that passes the law that forbid advertising for other betting companies. In the later years Norsk Tipping has lost massive market shares to foreign companies, and giving them an opportunity to win even more market shares isn't something Norsk Tipping like at all. Norsk Tipping pays 70 million NOK for the name Tippeligaen each year. And a possible loss of this income should have been taken into account by the NFF.
Also, several sponsor say they don't like that the main match on Sundays is moved from a national free channel, to a PPV-channel which far from everybody may subscribe to.
Today the average number of viewer on the main match is 400 000. This would probably drop to under 100 000 on the PPV-channel. Hence sponsors would get less exposure for their sponsor money.

Other news
Yesterday it was announced that Stabæk will have to leave Telenor Arena next season. Their alternatives are the national stadium Ullevaal, the atletic stadium Bislett, and their old stadium Nadderud which will need improvement. Stabæk's income is most likely to halfen already next season. Making it hard to compete in the top regurarly.

Sarpsborg was no match for an aggressive Rosenborg. Rosenborg is gradually getting better. And has now not lost in 6 matches. However, Rosenborg can't afford to lose to many points the rest of the season. However, Rosenborg has only lost 4 more points that the leading Molde. But then again 7 more points than Tromsø. To reach 55 points Rosenborg need to win 11, and draw 3 matches. With only 3 losses. That will be very hard. And I think we need to go closer to 60 points to take the gold. Which means 13-14 wins.
