French season 2011-12
Ligue 1 - MD36
Montpellier did it! Winning at Rennes whereas they were under a huge pressure after their disappointing performance vs. Evian and the win of Paris yesterday was not that easy.
The game was balanced but Boye did a miatake and offered an excellent opportunity for Camara who took to his chance to make him forgive the penalty missed last week vs. Evian. Montpellier could then control the game and scored a second goal thanks to Cabella whose shot on the post was deflected by the back of Costil in his own goal.
Montpellier thus keep their 3-point advantage with 2 games to go. Paris and Lille both did the job vs. Valenciennes and Caen. Lyon didn't and thus will not play the Champions League next season for the first time in the last 13 years.

Very exciting and spectacular match yesterday in valenciennes vs Paris SG. and those who have seen valenciennes pplay (Valenciennes which is still concerned by the relegation), know what i mean when oi say that the lower teams in France are of better class than in other championships, even if these put from time to time teams in European finals.
PSG face Rennes at home and Lorient away, whilst Montpellier face Rennes away and Lille at home, as well as Auxerre (relegation battle) away... it's definitely much harder for Montpellier, who were in the driving seat a week or two ago (after LIL 2-1 PSG). If PSG win the title, then they will have a lot of funding for them in summer (they already will have a lot due to CL qualification).
Paris SG 73 (36)
Montpellier 73 (35)
Lille 68 (35)

Lyon 60 (36)
Rennes 57 (35)

If Lille can win tonight against Caen- and then beat Montpellier next week, and if Montpellier lose to Rennes today- then Lille could even take 2nd. PSG are the slight favourites now- but if Montpellier win at Rennes, then the south coast side are back on top.
Very interesting- and the CL race is now officially over.

5 out 6 european teams are knowned.
Montpellier, Paris SG and Lille in CL.
Lyon (French Cup winner), Marseille (League cup winner) in EL
Rest 4 teams for the last spot :
Rennes, Saint-Étienne, Toulouse and surprise : Bordeaux who comes from nowhere...
I just hope they will not finish 1st non-european team for the 3rd time in a row.

Yes, that was in 2009/10. Then, Bordeaux missed 2010/11 and 2011/12. IF they will miss Europe this time, it will be for the 3rd season in a row. "Jhust" as scapulaire vingt-quatre said.Malko wrote:scapulaire, are you sure? The 3rd time?
I thought the 2nd. 2 years ago, i see Bordeaux vs Lyon in Quarterfinals of Championsleague.......
This math! It's not for everyone
Diguassed! it already begins. Now that Montpellier will play the CL for France, Olivier Giroud is announced.....in bayern Munich!
All the players which qualified Montpellier for this CL should be oblidged to stay in Montpellier and make possible Montpellier would go far (quarterfinals? semifinals?final?) in CL.
It is always the same crap. A club which has real chances even to win an european cup qualifies, and plays with a complete different new team next year.
Without Giroud and belhanda, Montpellier is no more the team that becomes maybe french champion
This "going abroad" must stop for Ligue 1 players. One for all !

The best goals of this season's Ligue 1 according to Canal+
I especially like Hazard's and Feret's goals.

Thanks for the link
You can't blame them- they want to play in a league with much better players and clubs.Malko wrote:Diguassed! it already begins. Now that Montpellier will play the CL for France, Olivier Giroud is announced.....in bayern Munich!

And Montpellier serious contenders for the Champions League?! They wouldn't even pass the group stage, even with this team.

My club, FC Metz, vice champion in 1998,....now goes to Ligue3 (National). and in 2001 i had a meeting with the actual president of the club, trying to demonstarte that they are leading the club to its end, building only on the formation centre, and selling the players as soon as they could get a fair amount. Ribery is an example. Adebayor is a second one.....Cisse is another one.
In the 90s, Metz was a respected club in Ligue 1, having thrown out Barcelona of the Cupwinners Cup, having elimiated Sporting Lisbon of the UEFA cup.....beating regulary Marseille, paris, Lyon, Monaco and Bordeaux......
Metz forgot that in France runs the fastest and most modern train of the world, the TGV. They stayed on the Corail-Train.....
Now, what can we hope.
We can hope to be like Toulouse.
What must we fear? To be like Cannes.....or Strasbourg.
When will we see FC Metz again in Ligue 1 ? and which role will it play?
metz is jhust 40 kms away from the Luxembourgish border...and in Luxembourg, there is much money. I told them in 2001, they didn't listen.......the money is still there.....
