Kurt Hamrin, Sweden great who was the last living player from the 1958 World Cup final, dies at 89. RIP.
Hamrin scored 17 goals in 32 matches for Sweden. He netted in the semifinal against West Germany in 1958, but Sweden was beaten 5-2 by Brazil in the final.
Hamrin was also Fiorentina’s record goalscorer — tied with Gabriel Batistuta — with 203 goals in his nine years with the club before leaving for AC Milan in 1967.

Thanks for the information; that's quite a loss given that he was the last survivor from the 1958 final.

He was one of my favourite player, seen him playing in 'the 58 WC. Together with Skoglund - he is on the right wing and Skoglund on the left - terrorized the defences. I think I became a Fiorentina fan, because of him. He was also a good man, loved by all everywhere he went. He lived in Florence.

World Cup winner Bernd Holzenbein passes away
https://www.fifa.com/fifaplus/en/news/a ... asses-away
Bernd Holzenbein, an Eintracht Frankfurt legend who helped West Germany win the FIFA World Cup, has died aged 78.
'Holz', as he was affectionately known, spent the majority of his career with Eintracht Frankfurt, winning a hat-trick of DFB-Pokal trophies between 1974 and 1981, as well as the UEFA Cup in 1980. He played 532 times in total for the Eagles, netting a club record 160 Bundesliga goals in the process.
The winger's crowning glory came in 1974. He featured in all but one of West Germany's games at their home World Cup, winning a penalty in the final against the Netherlands, which Paul Breitner converted, as the Mannschaft went on to win 2-1 and claim their second title. He would go on to win 40 caps for the national side, scoring five times.
“Bernd Holzenbein had a huge influence on Eintracht for almost 60 years,” said club CEO Axel Hellmann. “He was part of the golden generation of the 1970s, the UEFA Cup win in 1980‚ and the ‘Football 2000’ era that we, as a club, played at the start of the 1990s, during which time he was vice-president. In Bernd, we are losing not only one of the club’s biggest icons, but also a loyal colleague and a dear friend."
"My sincere condolences go to his family, friends, former team-mates and the German Football Association."

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: "It is with great sadness that I learned about the passing of 1974 FIFA World Cup winner Bernd Holzenbein. He will always have a place in football history for his contribution to his nation's 1974 success, as he won the penalty in the final which Paul Breitner converted as Germany came from behind to beat the Netherlands and lift the current FIFA World Cup trophy for the first time. He was also a legend for Eintracht Frankfurt, having made more than 400 appearances for the club. The Eintracht family is mourning World Cup winner and legend Bernd Hölzenbein.
As a player he won four trophies with Eintracht and his club record of 160 Bundesliga goals will probably never be surpassed.
