Official league names

Post by Philipp »

I am interested in the official names of the national european leagues as most of them contain a sponsor.

In Austria we have got new names for the first and second division beginning with the 2014-15 season.

The old contract that Liga 1 had with Bergenbier expired at the end of last season and they haven't signed a new one. So, currently, the name is just Liga 1. This is the logo that was used in the previous 4 years, without the sponsor's name.

I guess, if they sign a new contract, the logo will change.

No official league sponsor here in Sweden.

Allsvenskan - In English means All Swedish.

Superettean - In English Means the Super One/First

Superettan was created in 2000 replacing the old Division Ett (One) which were split into Regionalised divisions so this name makes sense when you think that the best teams from these Divisions joined together to make one League.

Damallsvenskan - Ladies All Swedish is the top Female Football League.
Hjärtat slår IF Elfsborg.

Germany
Bundesliga (english: Federal League). No sponsor nonense name and I hope this will remain. Same with this nonsense that in some countries the 2nd level is labelled with "Championship" or "First League" or other misleading names. In Germany it's "Bundesliga", then "2. Bundesliga", then "3. Liga", so 1-2-3, the natural given order in the universe.

Yup. I've got used to it now though. As ever, we have the Barclays Premier League.
