European football trivia

Post by Oldelpaso »

Came across this question in something I read earlier:

Only ten cities have supplied more than one European Cup / Champions League semi-finalist. Of those, only two are in the same country. Which country?

No Googling!

London (the only city with 3), Madrid and Milan are all correct. Manchester City have never passed the R16 and Lazio's best is the QF.

I'm pretty sure Lazio never get the CL-SF.
Maybe the UK, if you count Glasgow and London in the same country :S.

I would say:
The UK? London and Glasgow?
Further: Madrid, Lisbon, Milan, Athens, Prague, Vienna, Belgrade and Bucharest.
But not sure about Glasgow, Prague and Vienna

UK doesn't count.

No to Lisbon and Athens. I've included Prague in my total, but that's a bit of a technicality as Sparta finished 2nd in the 2nd group stage in 1991/92.

Got so far: London, Madrid, Milan, Glasgow, Prague, Vienna, Belgrade, Bucharest. Two to go, including that second one from the same country.

Has Torino ever gotten that far? To pair with Juventus.

I looked it up in my database:
I couldn't find the tenth one, but Prague it is. Budapest can be included.
I won't spoil it for the rest, but the city in question had semifinalists in 1963 and 1984.

Yes, that's what it was called when I was but a wee lad.
