Elche 2, Rayo 1 Two teams that want desperately to get back to LaLiga. Go Rayo :mol: :mol: :mol: Ebert gets Rayo off on the right foot at 13', but Josete at 18' and Javier Matilla at 37' bring Elche back for the win. :( :(

Alcorcón 0, Huesca 0 Alcor has spent the last couple or three seasons knocking on the door of LaLiga. Scoreless tie in Santo Domingo.

Córdoba 1, Tenerife 0 Córdoba made it to the playoffs last season . . . Alejandro Alfaro hits the winner for Córdoba at 27'.

Sunday 21 August

Sevilla At. 3, Girona 3 Girona lost in the last playoff round for promotion last season. Sevilla At. scores either side of halftime--Cotán at 45'; Borja Lasso at 46'. Carlos Fernández makes it 3-0 at 56', but then the tide turns: Longo at 72', Alcaraz at 90', and a player to be named later  , also at 90', tie it up for Girona.

Valladolid 1, Oviedo 0 Will Valladolid disappoint again this season :?: Will Oviedo get back to First Division after 15 years :?: Arnaiz gives Valladolid the lead at 17'. And it holds up to win :!:

Zaragoza 3, UCAM Murcia 1 Well, Michael, I hope Zaragoza won't disappoint you again this season. UCAM Murcia is another new kid on the block of LaLiga2. Zaragoza goes three up in the first half on goals by Angel Rodríguez at 9' and 35' and by Lanzarote at 42'. This result, if it holds, will leave Zaragoza atop LaLIga2. Goalscorer for UCAM at the death by Jesús Imaz. This win is sufficient for Zaragoza to finish Week 1 in first place.

Do they have ambitions and a quality team for that?

I'll be very glad to see them back in Primera. Nice traditional club with passion fans.

They're not far away. I've lived in Oviedo on various occasions--they want this badly. But the team probably doesn't have what it'll take this season. Stay tuned . . .

It's International Week, but LaLiga2 never sleeps :!: Week 3

Fri. 2 Sept.

Sevilla At. 1, UCAM Murcia 1 Sevilla is 10th with 2 points; UCAM is in the drop with one point. Third tie out of three for Sevilla At. Imaz gave UCAM the lead at 74'; Carrillo tied at 79'.

Córdoba 3, Lugo 3 Córdoba is fourth with 4 points; Lugo is ninth with 2 points. Rodri gave Córdoba the lead at 20'; Campillo tied for Lugo at 42'. Córdoba goes ahead 2-1 at 52' as Rodri scores his second on the night; Joselu of Lugo ties at 61'--2-2. At 77', Ignasi Miquel puts Lugo ahead 2-3; at 90', Serge Leuko of Lugo sees a second yellow; also at 90', Juli ties it up for Córdoba--3-3. Looks like a heck of a game in the Nuevo Arcángel. Córdoba misses a chance to move into first place; at the moment, they are second. That'll change on Saturday. Lugo has played three games  2-2, 3-3, and 3-3. Edit: Córdoba's tying goal was a pk by Juli at 92'. The video of highlights of this game is not available for viewing in the USA, so the details I have about this game are basically what you see here.

Sat. 3 Sept.

Mirandés 3, Cádiz 2 These two are tied for 12th place with two points. Alfredo Ortuño gives Cádiz the lead at 8'--0-1. At 33', Salvi makes it 0-2. At 35', Gorka Santamaría of Cádiz sees a second yellow. Mirandés comes back in the second half :!: At 52', Eguaras scores with a pk--1-2. At 55', Maikel Mesa ties it--2-2. At 66`, Guarrotxena gives Mirandés the lead--3-2. And this result lifts Mirandés into a second-place tie with Córdoba--at least until later today.

18:00

Getafe 1, Reus 1 Geta is one of seven teams with 2 points. Reus is fifth with 4 points. Edgar gives Reus the lead with a pk at 59'; Jorge Molina ties for Geta at 69'--1-1. Geta with their third tie in three games; Reus still unbeaten.

Almería 3, Rayo 0 Almería is next-to-last with one point. Rayo also has one point; we're 17th :( . Antonio Puertas puts Almería on the board at 42'. Azeez makes it 2-0 at 45'; Fidel ices it at 76'--3-0.   Rayo drops to last place with this horrid result. I'm unable to escape memories of what happened the last time Rayo dropped from First Division back in 2003  they did the double, dropping immediately to third level. I was in Madrid in August of 2004; took the Metro out to Portazgo to visit Rayo's stadium, called the "Teresa Rivero" at that time. The Rayo shop was having a "relegation sale" of everything on hand--I'da bought some stuff, but they were closed until 17:00. Hope they don't repeat this . . .

Valladolid 2, Girona 1 Valladolid is 6th--in the last playoff spot--with 4 points; Girona is in second place, also with four points. At 4', Lichnovsky gives Valladolid the lead--1-0; at 17', Mata makes it 2-0 with a pk. Borja García cuts the margin to 2-1 at 61'. Valladolid takes over first place with seven points--at least until Levante plays on Sunday.

Elche 3, Tenerife 1 Elche is 8th with 3 points; Tete is 18th with one point. Pablo Hervías gives Elche the lead at 3'. Pedro makes it 2-0 for Elche with a pk at 69'. Omar Perdomo cuts the lead to 2-1 at 87', but Hugo Fraile ices it for Elche at 91'--3-1. Elche is now in second place--at least until tomorrow.

Sunday 4 Sept.

Numancia 1, Alcorcón 1 #19 hosts #22; neither of these teams has scored yet this season :!: And both scored today in this 1-1 tie. David Rodríguez gave Alcor the lead at 2'; Callens tied at 20'.

Nástic 1, Levante 1 Nástic is 11th with two points; Levante leads the league as the only team with two wins in two games; they and Valladolid are the only two teams NOT to concede a goal in the first two games. Levante hanging tough in their bid to remain the only unbeaten, untied team in LaLiga2, as Chema gives them the lead at 65' in Tarragona. Juan Muñiz scores at 85' to win a point for Nástic and knock Levante out of the unbeaten, untied ranks. Levante still leads the league, but Zaragoza would pass them with a minimum win when they play Huesca later today.

Mallorca 0, Oviedo 0 Mallorca is 16th with one point; Oviedo is 7th with 3 points. Scoreless tie in Son Moix.

Zaragoza 1, Huesca 0 The "derby aragonés." Zaragoza is third with 4 points; they share the scoring lead with Girona with 6 goals in two games. Huesca is 15th with 2 points. Jorge Casado scores at 89' to lift Zaragoza into the league lead :!:

Lugo 1, Valladolid 0 Lugo is one of the pleasant surprises of the early season--unbeaten, third place just a point off the lead, and leads the league in scoring. Can they keep it up :?: Valladolid is seventh, two points back of Lugo. Joselu puts Lugo in front at 19'; at the half, Lugo tops LaLiga2. And Lugo does indeed hold on.

22:00
