What a bad start for galatasaray. Lost 0-2 to Ostersund who were making their European debut. I'm hoping that in the return fixture, Galatasaray will be at full strength, not take the opponent lightly and get the job done. That is what "should" happen, but I have an inner feeling that they might get eliminated. I'm kind of hoping that they show who is the real Galatasaray. If that happens, we should be fine.

I doubt that Galatasaray suddenly improves in a week only, but hopefully a small miracle happens.
Things did get worse, as today Sneijder officially left the club and a lot of Gala fans did protest this decision.

An early exit in EL would definitely be a huge blow and the start of a difficult season.

I don't remember if a Turkish team ever failed in this round ?

Sneijder leaving galatasaray came as a big shock today. They've allowed Podolski also to leave, suddenly there is a huge vacuum. It all started when first they allowed Burak Yilmaz to go to China. He was the main goal-getter. The core of Galatasaray was Burak, Selcuk, Sneijder, Chedjou, Semih, Hakan Balta, Sabri, Felipe Melo, Hakan Balta and then there were others like Drogba, Eboue, Amrabat. At that time Galatasaray was the strongest in Turkey and a force in Europe. Sadly the ones who have replaced them aren't upto the same level, and I always maintained that frequent coach changes have had a huge share in the situation Galatasaray find themselves in at the moment. It does more harm than good. I thought Jan Olde Riekerink was doing a decent job but then he too was shown the door. They just don't have the patience to build a team which can win. The management wants instant results and that does not happen in football. You need to give more time to the coach and the players.

Coming back to the qualifying round, even a Sneijder-less Galatasaray should be too strong for little-known Ostersund. Having said that, the synergy was just not there in this match. All I could see that the ball was just being passed around and there was no cohesiveness in attack. If they can get their act together they still should get over the line in the return leg.

Fatih Terim is no longer the coach of Turkey (mutual agreement with Turkish Football Federation).

Interesting to see what will happen next -

Who's going to replace him? Although I don't think Turkey will qualify for the World Cup, we still have some chances.
Will Fatih Terim join Galatasaray ? There are a lot of rumours lately, especially since that unexpected elimination in EL.

Main transfers updated.

Galatasaray has been quite active so far, and they would like to transfer 2-3 more players (Fernando from Man City? Feghouli from West Ham?)

Besiktas needs at least two transfers - a striker to replace Aboubakar and a defender to replace Marcelo (Negredo from Valencia? Miranda from Inter or Mangala from Man City?)

Fenerbahçe is about to sell Kjaer to Sevilla (around 10 Mill. € according to Turkish media) - with that money, they can also transfer more players.

Konyaspor beat besiktas to win the turkish super cup. Good confidence boost for them before the europa league even though this match is normally viewed as just a friendly game.

My team Besiktas lost and was not ready, but Konya was impressive to be honest and deserved to win.

Maybe r they can do something in EL, after all their coach is the same coach who qualified Osmanlispor last season and Trabzon a few years ago from the group stage (and on first place in both times if I am not mistaken)
This Konya team has nothing to do with the one from last season.

System change regarding the national cup - no more group stage.

Round 1, 2, 3, 4 - one-legged ties
Round 5, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals - two-legged ties
Final - one game

We don't know if they will use a seeding system or if that would be an open draw, though.

Group stages in domestic cup competitions are pretty silly, if you ask me. My ideal system is the French one, or the Norwegian one that is very similar.

Yeah they are, Turkish FF just understood it now.
At the time, they wanted to use the same format as EL (the 'evolution' was even similar, like you used to play your opponents once in the group stage, either at home or away)

The system for the domestic cup changed so much in the past few years.
