Football Europe Prediction Game (FEPG) - Season 23

Post by KDz »

Yes, you're right. It's time for another season of Football Europe Prediction Game.

In this topic, as usual, you can discuss anything about FEPG.
I hope all players from season 22 will show up once more. Also, as always, new players (or old ones returning) are more than welcome.

General Rules

1. Any kassiesa.net forum2 member is allowed to take part.

2. Each week, game-list consists of 10 matches picked from around European leagues, mainly including teams with recent European participation or holding top league position at that time.

3. Predictions are made on games taking place on weekends (Saturday & Sunday) + Monday.
In a very special case, Friday games may also be included (players will be informed in time).
Deadline is the last second before the game starts. Sometimes start time of games is changed after the game list is published, so be careful not to miss a possible new deadline, even announced wrongly.

4. The games are picked by the game administrator(s).
However, any player may recommend a game & his/her suggestion would be certainly considered.

5. Points are rewarded according to the official (final) result of each game.
If on Sunday night a game is under investigation for any reason (cancellation – postponement – interruption - rescheduled etc.) then we wait until Monday night. If yet, there is no official result, then the game is not taken into account. No matter it was the 1st minute or last minute, no matter if it is 3-0 or 0-3, it does not count.

6. Predicting a correct outcome of a match is rewarded with 2 points. Predicting the exact score is awarded one additional point.

7. In all competitions, the player's score is equal to the points obtained during the week.

8. Players are allowed to predict via private messages (PM). Players are recommended to announce it each time they send a PM.

9. Shuffling the game order is prohibited.

10. Copying predictions of an opponent is prohibited & punished by the cancellation of predictions.

11. All predictions must be sent in one single post. In the case of a double posts latest one counts, and predictions for games already started are canceled.
Changing predictions after the deadline is prohibited & punished with the cancellation of whole MD predictions.

12. If someone is unable to predict on a certain week, but really wants to, the player can inform the administrator(s) & request for a list of all possible games to predict in advance.

Competitions

1. General Ranking

Format: General Ranking runs the whole season. The points of a player are the sum of points from all the weeks. The one with the most points is declared overall FEPG champion.

Tie-breakers:
- most times MVP of the week
- more 2nd places, 3rd places etc.

Start: week 1

Entry: No restrictions. Once you've posted predictions, you get automatically enrolled.

2. Leagues (general rules)

General format: Players are classified into different league levels, according to their last season finish. The number of leagues depends on the number of players participating in the game.

Point system: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss.

Tie-breakers (league):
- head-to-head games (points)
- goals for
- general ranking
- all time ranking

Tie-breakers (play-offs):
- league position

Start: week 2

Entry: Players' enrollment depends on the league performance during previous season. New players are enrolled in the lowest tier.

Missing players: If a player fails to predict 3 times during the league season, he/she is excluded from the league and relegated to the last level, thereby the number of relegated players is reduced by one (with the missing player being already relegated to nowhere) and the number of players in divisions is fixed with shifts. Though, his results are not erased but remain as they are.
If a player is too late, his score in remaining games counts for General Ranking, but are canceled for the league if 3 or more games have started or 6 or more hours have passed since first Saturday game (or Sunday if there are no games scheduled before).
Every time a player misses an MD, he/she is substituted virtually by a player whose score is the average score of the MD minus 1,125 and rounded. So no player is guaranteed a win against a zero-opponent.
However, if a player is excluded in off-season time, his place is covered by another player according to leagues' priority list.

Premier League

Format: 14 players play a total of 13 MDs. Last 3 are relegated to Second Division.

Second Division

Format: All remaining players are enrolled in SD. 3 players are promoted to Premier League. Actual league format and promotion rules depend on the number of enrolled participants. Last 3 seasons, we used the same system as in English Championship – first 2 directly promoted + next 4 qualify for playoffs for one more place.

3. Cups

FA Cup

Format: The competition is a knockout tournament with pairings for each round based on actual FA Cup from season 2014/15 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014%E2%80%9315_FA_Cup). All players qualified for the certain round will be sorted by current general ranking position and will be assigned one actual FA Cup team (they will be sorted by their final league position). This will be used from the round of 16 – draws for preliminary rounds will be random. Matches between same league opponents playing the same week will be avoided as far as it is possible (league protection).
Each tie is played as a single leg.

Tie-breaker: Overall points over the season. Then points from last season and so on.

Start: week 9/10 (based on number of participants)

Entry: Based on the number of participants, a certain number of best-ranked players will gain direct entry to the round of 16. Others have to qualify through the preliminary round. Best ranked players are determined by General Ranking table before the week competition is scheduled to start.

Missing players: If a player is too late, his score in remaining games counts for General Ranking, but are canceled for the cup if 3 or more games have started or 6 or more hours have passed since first Saturday game (or Sunday if there are no games scheduled before).

Super Cup

Format: Consists of one game played between previous season's PL champion & FA Cup holder.

Tie-breaker: Previous season ranking.

Start: week 1

Nations League

Format: Players are grouped into 3-person teams, formed by their choice or by a decision of game administrator(s) (nationality is taken as 1st criteria). All teams play one league match against all other teams.

Tie-breakers (group stage):
- head-to-head games (points)
- goals for
- best player's score over NL weeks

Start: week 7/8/9  (based on number of formed teams)

Missing players: If a player misses 1st MD, he/she will be substituted with one of the players not included in any of the teams, ordered by eternal ranking position (if such player exists at all). Substitution is not allowed after 1st matchday.

4. Champions League

Format: There will be formed 4 groups of 4 players coming from 4 pots according to seeding list (based on results from last 4 seasons). Top 2 from each group advance to quarterfinals, where group winners meet runner-ups. Knockout matches are played over 2 legs, except for the final.
Winners of last season's competitions take a free ticket to the group stage. Remaining players will play a qualification round(s).
Draws are based on seedings list. Group stage draw will mimic draw for AFC Asian Cup 2011 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_AFC_Asian_Cup) – title-holder will take host's place, all other players will take place of one of the national teams based on seedings list. Knockout stages draw will be based on CL 2002/03 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2002–03_U ... ons_League).

Tie-breaker (qualification rounds): seedings list

Tie-breaker (group stage):
- head-to-head games (points)
- goals for
- general ranking
- all time ranking

Tie-breaker (final stages):
- total points over all CL weeks (excluding QRs)
- seedings list

Start: week 5/6/7 (based on number of participants)

Missing players: If a player misses 1st group stage match day, he/she is replaced by the best non-qualified player for last qualification round (determined by the number of points in that round, then followed by general ranking position). If a player misses group stage MD2 or MD3, he/she is excluded from the group and his/her results are canceled.

Group stage:
General Ranking, Champions League, FA Cup: nikolapfc89
Premier League: MTC
Second Division: SimonB
Nations Cup: Friesland, ralfinho, Ricardo

As you can notice, I'm a bit late with starting this season. I'm having a really hectic summer, so I didn't have time to start it earlier. This means we will have a shorter season with just 14 matchdays. This won't influence any of the FEPG competitions. Another option is to have additional MD during one of the weeks when top leagues will play their matches (eg. September 25/26th), but based on previous experience, I don't think that is a good idea.

Week 1 will start on September 1st. Last week will be played on December 22th/23th (just before Christmas). The topic for MD1 will be open on Monday.

Regarding the rules, they are exactly the same as last season, but, as always, I'm open to suggestions.
The main complain last season was about the rule for the late posting. Most frankly, I could go without it, because it just complicates my work, but it was introduced with a reason and it's still in the rules. If the majority wants it gone, I will remove it - players that are concerned about their opponents gaining an advantage with late posting can always use PMs.

Your thoughts, please!!
