More "well, this is what the plan sort of is now" information

The Powers That Be want LaLiga 2020-2021 to kick off on 12 September, with the following wrinkle: teams still in European competitions from the 2019-2020 campaign would start later--Atleti, Barça, Real Madrid, Sevilla, and Getafe are those which would start later according to when they drop out of European competition. Another "wait-and-see" possibility to contemplate . . .

Whether this is "click-bait" information or whether it might actually happen . . . :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:
Sport.es says that Fuenlabrada wants to play this game on any date beginning 2 August . . . assuming that coronavirus does not show up anew among their players before then.

Apparently the playoffs for the one spot open in LaLiga for next season MUST be completed by 23 August, according to sport.es. We shall see . . .

The soap opera continues. Fuenlabrada says they expect the game with Dépor to be on 5 August, but they expect Dépor to refuse to play. (If that makes any sense. ) Meanwhile, the clubs already relegated before that last set of games (Jornada 42) was played now want LaLiga2 to consist of 26 teams, or at least 24.

Stay tuned . . .

The Committee on Competition has decided that the Dépor-Fuenlabrada game will be played this Wednesday, 5 August. Stay tuned, because this is, once again, "subject to change without notice."

All things considered, I think they made the right call. However, if Dépor is a "no-show" for the game . . .

And the beat goes on. As they used to say to us in the army, "hold it, there's been a change" :!:

The Dépor-Fuenla game is now "on" for Friday, 7 August. Once again, "subject to change without notice."

Promotion playoffs: first legs of semifinals 13 August (Girona-Almería and ?-Zaragoza; second legs 16 August. The ? will be replaced by Fuenla if they win or tie against Dépor on Friday; otherwise by Elche.

Finals: first legs 20 August; second legs 23 August.

However, Elche doesn't like this very well, since they have no control over who qualifies between them and Fuenla. So    we shall see.

Apparently the Dépor-Fuenla game will be streamed here live--too bad it overlaps with the CL games today. Oh, well, I'll watch the first half of Dépor-Fuenla and then Man. City-Real, but as bugy says, Juve-Lyon is very interesting too :!: Once again, embarrass de richesse.

FINALLY

Dépor 2, Fuenlabrada 1 At 11', Pathé Ciss puts in a rebound in the area to make it 0-1. At 85', Beauvue ties for Dépor, and at 95', Beauvue converts a pk to give Dépor the win--meaningless for Dépor, but a disaster for Fuenla, which loses the chance to play off for a place in LaLiga for next season. They're dancin' in Elche--they get the chance Fuenla woulda had. Elche plays Zaragoza in the semis of the playoff.

well that's 2nd tier anyway, it's only the 1st one that can't overlap apparently (tho now it's probably allowed)

FINALLY here we go. Who wins promotion to LaLiga (ie First Division) (along with Huesca and Cádiz, the two top finishers in LaLiga2) :?: Marca.com users pick Zaragoza; Marca picks Girona. The pick of Girona is due to the presence of Stuani, the top goal-scorer this season in the two top divisions. The negative for Girona is their awful road record of 3-7-11.

Anyway, first legs of semifinals today. I was really hoping for live streaming of the Girona-Almería game, but that isn't happening here. The Elche-Zaragoza game will be carried live--the first half will coincide with the RBL-Atlético quarterfinal. :(

Girona 1, Almería 0 Final score. Girona goes with a 4-2-3-1, the "one" being Stuani. Almería, under a new coach, employs a 5-4-1. Scoreless first half in Montilivi. And it's Stuani who breaks the ice at 54'--1-0. And that's the final score; second leg on Sunday.

Elche 0, Zaragoza 0 Full time. Elche played with 10 men from 30' on.

Second legs of semifinals for promotion to LaLiga (First Division) for 2020-2021 will be played today, 16 August

1900 Almería 1, Girona 2 (0-1) Girona held top-scoring Almería to zero in the first leg--can they do the same today :?: Almería actually scored more goals on the road than at home this season in LaLiga2--30 at home, 32 on the road. Game will NOT be streamed here in the USA. :( At 5', Samu Saiz scores for Girona--0-1, and Almería must score three or they are out :!: And at 26', Almería gets the first of the three--Lazo makes it 1-1. Now past 70'; Almería still needs two goals to progress. And at 84', it ain't over but it's over, as Samu Saiz assists . . . who else, Stuani, who makes it 1-2 on the evening and 1-3 agg. Girona is the first finalist--If Elche wins against Zaragoza, Girona starts the Final on the road. If Zaragoza wins, Girona starts at home.

2200 Zaragoza 0, Elche 1 (0-0) Can Elche make a contest of this :?: They were almost as good on the road this season as was Zaragoza at home: Elche was 8-5-8 away from home; Zaragoza was 9-4-8 in the Romareda. Game will be streamed live here in the USA--first half in conflict with semifinals of EL. :( Elche could and did. At 82', Nino--what a great story :!: --smashes one in from the top of the area--0-1. At 87', Javi Ros has a pk for Zaragoza. Know how silly you look if you try a panenka and the goalie just stands there, catches your shot, and gives you a raspberry  Well, that's what happened :!: . . . and Elche is in the Final as host for Thursday's first leg.

The Final will also be two legs--20 and 23 August. Higher-ranked team plays first game on the road.
