Round 17
January 30: Teplice - Karviná 2:2
January 30: Pardubice - Příbram 1:0
January 30: Slovácko - České Budějovice 0:0
January 30: Sparta Praha - Bohemians 0:1
January 31: Opava - Brno 0:2
January 31: Ostrava - Plzeň 0:2
January 31: Slavia Praha - Jablonec 3:0
February 2: Mladá Boleslav - Olomouc 1:1
postponed: Liberec - Zlín

Highlights of this round
- Slavia is playing some of the best football in recent czech history, absolutely dominating Jablonec resulting in a 3:0 win, Kuchta scored his 7th goal in last 4 matches, Sima keeps on scoring as well. Together with other clubs having problems, it seems almost inevitable that Slavia will win the title this season, third in a row. Slavia also scored unprecedented 51 goals at the half of the season.
- The main reason why Slavia's title seems inevitable is Sparta who shockingly lost to Bohemians at home due to a single goal by Tomáš Necid (ex-Slavia). Sparta is somewhat solid in defense but recently awful in offense, not creating many scoring chances. This match demonstrated it perfectly. Sparta is now 12 points behind Slavia after half of the season, media write about bad relationship between older players and the manager... A lot of work ahead for Sparta to turn this around.
- Plzeň is back (at least to some degree), a crucial win in Ostrava moves them to fifth place. It is surely too late to fight for the title but there are only 8 points now between Plzeň and Sparta.
- Opava lost at home to Brno and is in huge troubles now, these are matches which clubs wanting to avoid relegation need to win.

Shock at Letná!

Václav Kotal is sacked and Pavel Vrba takes his place as the manager of Sparta. Not an easy task, he was quite unpopular among Sparta fans in times he lead Plzeň. Recently he is quite unpopular in general, following his stint at the Czech NT.

Round 19
February 12: Slovácko - Teplice
February 13: Opava - Příbram
February 13: Brno - Zlín
February 13: Slavia Praha - Pardubice
February 14: Liberec - České Budějovice
February 14: Ostrava - Jablonec
February 14: Bohemians - Olomouc
February 14: Mladá Boleslav - Plzeň
February 14: Sparta Praha - Karviná

What to watch for?
- It is freezing these days in Czechia and it is possible (maybe even likely) that some matches will get postponed due to the weather
- Slavia plays at home against Pardubice and Sparta faces Karviná, not particularly easy matches but nothing where the favourites should drop points
- Jablonec travels to Ostrava to what should be an even match and Liberec against České Budějovice will also be interesting
- Plzeň faces Mladá Boleslav away, Boleslav signed several interesting players at the end of the transfer window and really should start winning, they now have the squad which should be able to fight for european cups and not just to avoid relegation
- Another must-win match for Opava, this time against Příbram. Whoever drops points here will be in deep troubles

Highlights of this round
- Sparta returned after a covid outbreak to the league yesterday with an easy win over Příbram. Superstar Adam Hložek returned after being out for around five months with injury. Sparta has now 4 wins in a row with 14 goals scored in those matches, awesome start for Pavel Vrba.
- However, Slavia keeps winning also, this time against Baník Ostrava. The hosts played in 10 men from 3', when Fillo was shown a red card after hitting Jan Bořil with an elbow to the head. Then Masopust scored early and Stanciu converted a penalty for handball, but in the second half Slavia played poorly, allowed Ostrava to score and in the last minute of the match, Tetour missed a good chance to equalize the match.
- Plzeň now also has three wins in a row, something they failed to achieve this whole season up to now. Next week they face Sparta in Prague, this will be a huge match.
- While Příbram, Brno and Opava struggle, Mladá Boleslav won second match in a row, this time via two added time goals in České Budějovice, and is now 4 point clear out of the relegation zone.

Round 23
March 12: Liberec - Teplice 2:1
March 13: Opava - Pardubice 1:0
March 13: Zlín - České Budějovice 3:0
March 13: Ostrava - Příbram 5:0
March 14: Bohemians - Karviná 2:0
March 14: Brno - Jablonec 1:2
March 14: Mladá Boleslav - Slavia Praha 0:3
postponed: Sparta Praha - Plzeň
postponed: Olomouc - Slovácko

Highlights of this round
- Sparta is back from the covid quarantine, but this time Plzeň is quarantined, so Sparta is now two tough (Jablonec away, Plzeň at home) matches down with respect to the rest of the field. The same holds for Slovácko also, so the situation behind Slavia and Sparta is quite messy with a lot of clubs having some additional matches yet to play
- In the mean time, Slavia keeps winning. Nicolae Stanciu was the hero for Slavia in Mladá Boleslav, scoring a brace.
- Five goals conceded in Ostrava meant the end for Pavel Horváth as the manager of Příbram. Jozef Valachovič will replace him.
- Liberec is on fire in the spring part of the season, Rabušic and Rondić providing crucial goals. This time it was Rondić with a last minute game winning goal.

Round 24
March 19: Pardubice - Mladá Boleslav 2:2
March 20: Příbram - Brno 1:1
March 20: Karviná - Olomouc 0:1
March 20: Jablonec - Liberec 2:1
March 21: Slovácko - Ostrava 2:1
March 21: Teplice - Bohemians 1:1
March 21: České Budějovice - Sparta Praha 0:0
March 21: Slavia Praha - Opava 4:0
postponed: Plzeň - Zlín

Highlights of this round
- Sparta failed to score a single goal in České Budějovice, who hit the woodwork three times in the match. Libor Kozák suffered a fracture and since Lukáš Juliš and David Moberg Karlsson are also injured, Sparta is in trouble concerning strikers. There is Adam Hložek, who returned from injury, but otherwise not much else.
- Slavia won against Opava despite going down to 10 men in 22' due to Sima's challenge on the goalkeeper. However Kuchta scored in the added time of the first half and early in the second half won a penalty and a red card for Opava's defender, Stanciu converted the penalty making it 2:0 and the match was over, Slavia added two more goals. Slavia leads by 16 points and even though Sparta has two matches in hand, the title race surely feels almost over now.
- Jablonec won the "Ještěd derby", beating Liberec 2:1 and returning to N3. With Sparta having the quality to finish at worst second, the fight for the other three european cup spots is wide open between Jablonec, Liberec, Slovácko and Plzeň.
- Slovácko in the crucial match after their covid quarantine won againts Baník Ostrava, essentially dooming Ostrava to another season without european cups, despite being quite a wealthy club recently.
- In the relegation fight, Příbram drew with Brno, exactly what the other clubs involved wanted. With each passing round it feels less and less likely that any of the trio Příbram, Opava, Brno will be able to at least attack the clubs above. Mladá Boleslav seems to be far better than these three teams at the moment, others are even more points ahead.

League table after Round 24:

Round 25
April 2: Bohemians - Jablonec 0:0
April 3: Olomouc - Pardubice 0:1
April 3: Opava - Slovácko 1:2
April 3: Liberec - Ostrava 0:0
April 3: Sparta Praha - Teplice 7:2
April 4: Mladá Boleslav - Příbram 0:0
April 4: Zlín - Karviná 1:2
April 4: Plzeň - České Budějovice 2:1
April 4: Brno - Slavia Praha 0:0

Highlights of this round
- For the second time in a row, Slavia went down to 10 men early in the match, this time after a late tackle of the young goalkeeper Vágner on Hladík who otherwise would have scored an empty net goal. Brno then played evenly with Slavia and the match ended with a deserved 0-0 draw.
- Meanwhile Sparta demolished Teplice 7-2 with Ladislav Krejčí II (the younger one) scoring a hattrick. Sparta is now 14 points behind Slavia with two more matches yet to play. The Prague derby next weekend will show whether Sparta can still think about the title or not. If Sparta does not win at Slavia, then I think it will be game over in the title race.
- Jablonec failed to score in a dull match at Bohemians while Slovácko, one of the best teams in the spring part of the season, heroicly turned around a tough match in Opava to win 2-1 and move back to third place.
- Plzeň won and Liberec drawed, so there is now three points between these clubs, however Plzeň has two more matches to play.
- Nothing new in the relegation fight, Mladá Boleslav failed to score against Příbram despite number of clear opportunities (and a missed penalty), so in theory Boleslav is still in danger, however it would be shocking if they managed to get relegated with the quality of their recent squad.
- There are five postponed matches at this point, Olomouc - Slovácko takes place on Tuesday, three other matches in the middle of the next week.

Round 23

Olomouc - Slovácko 0:0
- quite fun match with some chances on both sides. No changes in the standings after this match, Slovácko keeps N3, one point ahead of Jablonec

Cup QF

Teplice - Mladá Boleslav 2:1
Plzeň - Liberec 1:0
Sparta Praha - Jablonec 4:1
Olomouc - Slavia Praha postponed

No surprises in Plzeň and at Letná stadium in Prague, home teams advance to semifinals. Teplice are now the clear underdogs against all possible opponents in SF. The date for the last QF has not yet been set as Slavia Praha plays EL QF. Fun fact is that if Slavia advances to the EL final, there are not enough dates to play the czech cup in such a way that the final takes place before the NT starts its preparation for EURO after the final round of the league. This is quite common in czech football, that the authorities do not expect czech clubs to advance so far in Europe.

Round 26
April 9: Pardubice - Bohemians 0:2
April 10: Karviná - Plzeň 1:1
April 10: Jablonec - Zlín 3:1
April 10: Příbram - Olomouc 0:2
April 10: Ostrava - Opava 3:0
April 10: Slovácko - Liberec 1:0
April 11: České Budějovice - Brno 0:2
April 11: Teplice - Mladá Boleslav 1:3
April 11: Slavia Praha - Sparta Praha 2:0

Highlights of this round
- The title race is almost over. Slavia defeated Sparta 2:0 at the Sinobo Stadium and is now 13 points short of securing the title with 8 matches left to play. Moreover Sparta has two more matches to play, so more opportunity to drop points. It was 13th Prague derby in a row without a win for Sparta and only for the third time in history after WWII Slavia won both of league derbys in one season. Sparta was better for 20 minutes, failed to convert their early chances and had last good opportunity to score in 26'. Tomáš Holeš then scored in the dying minutes of the first half and Slavia then controlled the rest of the match quite easily, Stanislav Tecl adding the second goal in 80'.
- In the battle for european cups, Slovácko gained a crucial advantage over Liberec with a 1-0 win due to a penalty goal. Slovácko is now likely to stay in top 5 and enter at worst the ECL qualifying rounds. They are really a tough opponent to beat.
- Plzeň failed to win in Karviná, still has some postponed matches to play, but one of them is at Letná stadium against Sparta, so they are still quite far from securing the european cup spots.
- In the relegation battle, Brno surprisingly won in České Budějovice and Mladá Boleslav won in Teplice, so now it looks like Brno has a chance to stay up if they can continue collecting points. Teplice are quite weak and it is not difficult to imagine them falling down, while Mladá Boleslav seems in a bit better shape.

Slavia looked tired and unspired against Arsenal so there was a hope Sparta might do something (they’ve had a little resurgence since Vrba took charge) but no, besides the first 20 minutes, Slavia easily dominated the game and there was no sign of tiredness on their side. It was quite sad seeing Sparta with heavier and heavier legs with each passing minute, not being able to do anything.

There wasn’t a single game where I liked Hložek as a lone striker. He looks disengaged, lost and lazy there.
