if you mean by soft drinks manufacturers "Red Bull losing earlier or later interest in football" you might be on the wrong path.
Their goal was always to build up a top infrastructure with a competence centre with an international network to bring FC Salzburg sustainable on a decent level in European football with a stringent strategy for the club. They do not put more and more (and often stupid money) into the club like we see somewhere else. FC Salzburg is still on a learning curve to fulfill this mission. It is a long term partnership with Red Bull co. and FC Salzburg is playing an important role to return good publicity and marketing inputs to Red Bull co. It's a win win situation. Red Bull just acts financially as a sort of reinsurer in the case of something does not go the right way they think.
FC Salzburg nowadays is very successful financially too. Their income rose in 2019/20 up to € 183 Mio (in 2017/18 it still was just 80,5 mio) and accounted a profit of € 40,3 mio in this period - and not one cent came from Red Bull.

I was thinking more about Leipzig and less about Salzburg or New York. I remember Salzburg were strong (at a European level) before the soft drinks manufacturer took control - especially in the 90s when I think they made a UEFA cup final - which is a very different story from Leipzig. Having said that, Germany will do well with or without Leipzig so I guess my point was equally about the financial doping of some clubs as well as the effects on countries co-efficient.

I agree Salzburg don't need RB connection so I wonder if there are any fans who regret effectively selling the badge, kit and name (and history?) to RB? In some other places in Europe, even selling the stadium naming rights is controversial.

Fans founded a new club, SV Austria Salzburg in 2005. They are currently leading in the Regionalliga.

btw, second elague is back. Austria Klagenfurt lost at home against last placed Rapid II. :o BW Linz is in the best position atm.

Why can't Lafniz and BW Linz get promoted? Are they feeder teams for a Bundesliga club like Liefering is for Salzburg?

Both didn't apply for the Bundesliga license.

Lafnitz won't apply for Bundesliga and thus avoid to undergo review of infrastructure/financials by Bundesliga board. They are geographically close to Hartberg. BW Linz https://www.nachrichten.at/sport/fussba ... 94,3314879 only will apply when they get their new stadium in 2023. There is no eligable football stadium in Linz at the moment to play BL matches. LASK will get the new one only in 2022/23 and they do play their matches in Pasching 10 km outside of Linz.

It looks like Austria has some pretty strict requirements for promotion eligibility.

What an idiotic system. I hoped variety and inclusiveness would rise with the league12, but it is getting even worse. It is becoming a closed shop.

all clubs need to fulfill special requirements for infrastructure (eligible stadium with lawn heating and youth academy etc.) and have to submit a comprehensible financial budget with guaranteed financing of costs through incomes and sponsorships.
Lafnitz and BW Linz are not interested at the moment for good reasons.

Looking at the table, i can't figure out if Hartberg, in order to have more chances to earn an european spot, would be better off in the top six or in the last six after the split. This shows the flaws of the system, but at least it is quite exciting for the fans i suppose.

Austria Klagenfurt, Wacker Innsbruck and GAK have applied for a Bundesliga license. Innsbruck is probably the strongest team and invested a lot into their squad, but as in autumn they give away too many points easily.

All three clubs would be warmly welcomed in the Bundesliga due to their infrastructure and fan base. Klagenfurt plays in the Wörthersee Stadion (30,000) Innsbruck at the Tivoli (17,000) and GAK shares the stadium with Sturm (16,500).

late goals decided a dramatic fight for place 6. WAC beat Austria away 3:5. WAC gained 24 pts away but only 9 pts at home. Hartberg until 90+4 minutes had their 6th place in their pocket but conceded this deciding goal in overtime and whilst WSG Tirol could equalize at the end against Rapid they made it to top 6.
Matchday 23 will start with halved points. Still 10 matchdays to the end. After this: KO match between place 7 vs 8, winner will play against team placed 5 for EC spot.

After Rapid demolished WAC in last round 1:8! away they were not lucky at all yesterday and lost clear 0:3 at home to RB Salzburg. With just 10 players in 2nd half (red card of Rapid player) the score could have been even higher for Salzburg as two correct goals (offside) were canceled.
H2H for Rapid is in a deep red against Salzburg. The last 10 matches Rapid only achieved 1 draw and 9 losses!

Topscorer
Daka (Salzburg) 23
Koita (Salzburg) 14 (suspended for this season)
Kara (Rapid) 13
Baden Frederiksen (WSG Tirol) 12
