Welsh Premier League 2020-21

Post by seso »

The time has come to open the topic for 2020-21 Welsh Premier League (Cymru Premier)!

On 13 March 2020, all games of the 2019-20 league were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 19 May 2020, the league was cancelled. Connah's Quay Nomads F.C. were declared champions, for the first time in their history (after 8 consecutive TNS titles).

The two bottom placed clubs from the 2019–20 season, Airbus UK Broughton and Carmarthen Town, were relegated to Cymru North and Cymru South respectively for the 2020–21 season.

Flint Town United, runners-up of Cymru North were promoted to the league due to champions Prestatyn Town's failure to secure a Tier 1 license. Similarly, Haverfordwest County, runners-up of Cymru South, were also promoted due to champions Swansea University's failure to secure a Tier 1 license.

So we have 6 clubs from the North of the country and 6 clubs from the Mid and South. The championship begins on September 12th! We support again Cefn Druids and Barry Town United!

Also hoping that if Swansea University FC will win again Cymru South, they will secure a Tier 1 license!

TNS started the season well, beating 0-3 Barry Town United away!
Last season’s champion, Connah's Quay Nomads, could only draw at home against Bala Town 1-1. English FW Sameron Singh-Dool scored for the Nomads on the 95th minute. The Nomads face Dinamo Tbilisi in 4 days!
Newly-promoted Flint Town United beat Newtown 1-0.
Haverfordwest County vs Cefn Druids was postponed.

The New Saints 2–0 Cardiff MU and TNS are alone in the top. Polish FW Adrian Cieślewicz has scored 3 goals for TNS already! No goal yet for the ‘usual suspect’ English/New Zealander Greg Draper.
Champions Connah's Quay Nomads beat Penybont 1-0.

I watched Swansea University FC training on Friday! Looked like a ‘proper’ club, not a university one! Let’s see when 2020–21 Cymru South will start!

Terrible start to the season by european powerhouse Cefn Druids... They lost yesterday at home 1-2 to newly-promoted Flint Town United. In the first MD they lost to Bala Town.

In other news, Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds is interested in buying Wrexham AFC. He has played in Deadpool etc. He was married to Scarlett Johansson (2008-11) and he is now married to Blake Lively!

Wrexham now plays in the National League, the fifth tier of the English football league system, but let's see if we can lure them to the Welsh Premier league! Formed in 1864, Wrexham AFC are the oldest club in Wales and the third oldest professional football team in the world. Since 2011 Wrexham have been a supporter-owned football club.

EDIT: Imo only Megan Fox can match the beauty of Scarlett Johansson, as far as actresses below 40 are concerned!

First point for Cefn Druids this season (drew at home against Cardiff MU). Good away wins for Bala Town and Barry Town United!

I visited Penydarren Park - the home stadium of Merthyr Town - last week, a rather special place for me because it was there that they - then known as Merthyr Tydfil - pulled-off one of the biggest shocks in the history of European soccer when they beat Atalanta 2:1 in the first leg of their ECWC R1 tie in 1987/88. Fortunately, the gate to the stadium was open and I could enter and walk around at my leisure!

Merthyr Tydfil eventually became bankrupt and were refounded as Methyr Town, which was actually the original name of the club when it was first founded, and is now owned exclusively by its fans. They play in the Southern League today, which is the six tier of football in England if I'm not mistaken. I don't know why they don't play in the Welsh League; perhaps it's because they still harbour ambitions of promotion to the English Football League, something their late 1980s squad came fairly close to.

I read that Merthyr Town FC currently play in the Southern League Premier Division South, the seventh tier of the English football league system. I have also visited Merthyr Tydfil, but not the stadium.

Yes, they (Merthyr Tydfil FC) had played Atalanta in the CW cup R1 in 1988 (2-1 at home, 0-2 away)!

They had a record attendance of 21,000 vs Reading in 1946 FA Cup second round!

Easy win for TNS (0-4 against Caernarfon Town away) and they go first! Good win for defending champions Connah's Quay Nomads too (1-4 against Haverfordwest County away) and they are second together with Bala Town! Bala Town vs The New Saints on Wednesday!

Connah's Quay 2–0 Aberystwyth Town and the Nomads are second on GD.

Barry Town United 2-1 Haverfordwest County and Barry Town United are third!

Newtown 4–1 Cefn Druids and the Druids remain bottom…

Greg Draper is a regular reader of this forum and he thought “MF seso cannot write this sh*t about me” and went on to score 5 goals in TNS’ 10-0 victory over Flint Town United! He goes directly to the top of the goal scorer’s list [where he belongs].

Cefn Druids continue doing very poorly; they lost 0–5 to Connah's Quay Nomads.
Also, Aberystwyth Town 1–2 Barry Town United, despite Barry Town being a man down since the 60th minute!

Cefn Druids continue doing very badly; they have just one point after 6 MDs (0–4 against Aberystwyth Town yesterday).
Connah's Quay Nomads started with a draw against Bala Town in the first MD, but have 5 wins since then and are first on the table! The New Saints have 5 wins in 5 matches, 21 goals for and 0 against! Barry Town United continues doing very well (1–0 against Cardiff MU yesterday) and is third!

First win for Cefn Druids (Caernarfon Town 1-2 Cefn Druids), but they are still bottom of the table.

TNS cruise at the top!

First ‘negative’ result for TNS this season, 2-2 against Aberystwyth Town away. They are still first, but Connah's Quay Nomads can catch them if they beat third-place Barry Town United away. Looking at it from a different angle, Barry Town United can go second if they beat Connah's Quay Nomads at home!

In the relegation positions, Cardiff MU vs Flint Town United and Cefn Druids vs Penybont!

Cardiff MU 2-1 Flint Town United and Cardiff MU goes up to 9th position!
Cefn Druids 0-2 Penybont and Cefn Druids are in big trouble...

Barry Town United 0-0 Connah's Quay and they remain in 2nd and 3rd position. Connah's Quay Nomads was a man down for 88 minutes!
