Austria - Football Season 2021/22

above table was published by a big newspaper company just close before the new season started to split up the 12 clubs according to their strenghts into different categories (Goalkeeping, Defence...) 6 balls = top; 2 balls = poor.
The general opinion was that Championship could be much more closer for the title race as the years before because Salzburg sold some key players (Daka, Mwepu, Ramalho, Stankovic) and Koita injured until the end of the year plus manager Jesse Marsch.
The team is very young (about 22,8 years in average) and the youngest team of all champions in Europe.
However the first matches against Sturm and yesterday against Atletico (1:0) showed that Salzburg almost lost no quality. Other players could fill this positions appropriately and some younger players made a step forward.

Matchday 1
Sturm Graz - RB Salzburg 1:3 (1:0)

WSG Tirol - Admira 1:1 (0:0)
Rapid Wien - TSV Hartberg 0:2 (0:1)
Altach - LASK 0:1 (0:1)
Ried - Austria Wien 2:1 (0:0)
Austria Klagenfurt - WAC 1:1 (0:1) Klagenfurt equalized in last minute in front of 13.500 visitors

What is the reason for such a poor grade for the current manager, literally the worst of the whole league? Seems to me that rising in the club structures and having some experience as a main coach in Liefering should be good enough to be at least on par with other managers...

I would like to see a different champion in Austria and seing RB not winning (in football) but their organisation is way ahead of the other teams, even selling key players.

Coach Matthias Jaissle is only 33 years old but has got much experience within the organisation as Co and Head coach with Liefering which means tactics, playing style and RB philosophy at all communication and so on. It's not new that coaches/managers coming from Liefering (Marc Rose or Bo Svensson as chief coach recently to Mainz). Jesse Marsch already has worked at Leipzig as Co and New York Red Bulls ad Head coach before he moved to Salzburg. The only coach which had no RB past was Oscar Garcia when I remember well.

Hooray, the topic was finally opened. I wanted to comment on the cup already last week. Vienna sadly lost to KSV, while WSC lost against WAC. The round was not particulary interesting though, most of the favourites went through easily.

Austria Klagenfurt is finally where they deserve to be, but sadly with all the restrictions and crowds on the border I am not able to watch the games yet. The predictions like the one in the table from Club-Mate are mostly pessimistic, but I hope they they are wrong. Today against Admira is a nice chance for the first win.

This year everything has moved closer together in Bundesliga. Things can go up and down quickly. Of course Salzburg is in a league of its own, but Sturm also developed well. LASK seems to be less strong than last year already in champions round in spring they actually failed and only achieved 4th place. Their mastermind in central defense Trauner left to Feyenoord and their defense rather worsened since then. However they have a good quality and quantity squad and lots of opportunities in the offensive since more and more injured players come back now esp. Raguz their top scorer in the last year and Karamoko who had a very good debut against Vojvodina.
Rapid's team has not changed so much apart from their great prospective player Demir to Barcelona who made a big impression to manager Koeman in the first weeks who also expects great things from him. He has been promoted to Barcas first team already but he was planned to play at Barcelona B team the first year. Hardly to understand why Rapid's coach Kühbauer gave him so little time to play. But he only wanted to go to Barca and as soon as possible and nowhere else. A very smart deal from Barca to buy him next year for only 10 m obviously because Rapid needed urgently money compared to the overpriced J. Felix where Atletico payed insane 120 mio!! But this story is going to an end in Spain from now on. From Salzburg you'll never get a player of this class (Demir) at this price.
As already mentioned Salzburg likely will win the title race although some keyplayers left but the new ones look very promising. Rapid, LASK and Sturm for 2-4 after that WAC and WSG Tirol look good to make it to the first 6 of the champions round.

Red Bull Salzburg is more dominant in the Bundesliga than ever before. Nobody in the league has achieved 34 points after twelve rounds. In the duel with the toughest runner up Sturm Graz there was a show of power by the series champion including a 4-1 success.
Jaissle's record is impressive. In 19 competitive games there was only no victory in the 1-1 draw in the Champions League at Sevilla FC and most recently in the league match in Altach (1-1). Sports manager Christoph Freund, who was questioned about his coaching decision in the summer, had the right nose for Jesse Marsch's search for a successor. "He is an extremely interesting coach who we will hear a lot about in international football over the next few years," he said. The difference to previous seasons is that Salzburg concede fewer goals, currently there are only seven in the championship and 3 in CL.
Rapid gave away one more win at the end of the game like against Klagenfurt a week ago.
The derby between Wolfsberg and A. Klagenfurt ended in a deserved win for WAC with a nice goal of Liendl from 25 m straight into the cross. After a bumpy start WAC is already on 3rd place and looks good to reach top 6 after 22 rounds. It looks like coach Robin Dutt can meet the team more and more.
LASK is a big mystery for everybody. Now they reached the bottom of the table after a late goal against Altach. Only 10 goals scored in 12 rounds compared to 24 & 25 the years before. New interimscoach Wieland analysed precisely the problems but the players cannot put it on the pitch be it lack of concentration, individual issues or often no luck. The dismissal of success coach Ismael was a big mistake and no necessity then. LASK needs just one strong man in the club who knows what to do and not a body of contradicting personalities.
